Good day guys and welcome back to the channel. Today I’ll be reviewing the game between Jalong and Brisbane which was at the MCG on the Friday night. Still struggling as you can tell. Uh what a win it was for Jalong and yeah incredibly pleased to make it through to the next step through to the preliminary final uh which will also be at the MCG. Oh dear. Yeah, super stoked with how the cats went about it. uh as you could yeah it’s still uh pretty crazy that um yeah that result came through for Jalong and yeah after Brisbane probably had the better of us over a few times um including the prelim last year couple of games this year it was yeah really nice to put it all together play yeah Jalong’s best footie for yeah very yeah oh it’s hard to say a very long time but it was um an awesome performance uh from the boys um consist consistent over the course of the four quarters. Couldn’t be much more rap with yeah how they played and ultimately the result that we got um out of the game. So yeah uh yeah the voice is still struggling from um yelling and screaming at Cam Raina for ax will discuss uh throughout the review. Uh so yeah it was an interesting start to the game. Uh yeah, when Cameron kicked Brisbane’s first from the goal square, it was like, “Oh, this isn’t the ideal start.” Um so they got yeah, one out the back there uh off the back of a turnover. But to Jalong’s credit, they responded really well and relatively quickly as well. uh with Jeremy Cameron on the cat side of things being able to take yeah some big contested marks early in the game and and yeah I suspect him on fire early kind of gave the group a good bit of you know uplifting confidence in themselves and yeah I mean that wasn’t the straightest kicking performance of all time scoring shots to three at quarter time so it could have been a much bigger margin um not only quarter time but probably um yeah by the time the game finished But what we loved early and throughout the game was yeah, the cat’s pressure was was uh magnificent. Um yeah, just not allowing Brisbane that run carry that they like to do, able to sort of yeah, get that front half turnover game going, which is yeah, Jalong at their best is winning the ball back, not uh not in the D50 so much, but if they can win in the front half, um that’s a much better way to to get a score on the board. So they definitely did that. Uh it was really was a true team performance where whilst there was some outstanding uh players for Jalong, it was so many players just played their role and played really well. Uh it didn’t need Jeremy Cameron to kick seven or eight for for Jalong to find a way over the line. It was yeah uh just enough numbers and yeah enough players sort of contributing to not have to rely on you know a single player to play an amazing game which um yeah which I I truly loved watching uh being there live on the night. Um yeah, it was a bit of an armrest on that second term as we saw. Uh there wasn’t too much scoring going on and J al Jalong just a few more as we can see uh at least five more shots of goal, five more behinds and yeah then Jalong all of a sudden got three or four really quickly towards the end of that uh third or second term and put in a really good spot. I think about 28 points up and about to go five goals up and then yeah it takes a turn for the worse from there. So, uh, that’s when, yeah, Cam Raina went up to the umpire and started complaining about the treatment from Marco Connor, whatever that was. U, but yeah, just just winging to the umpire in a in a in any game, let alone a big final and ultimately cheating. Um, diving, flop, flopped on the ground, whatever you like. He um yeah he coerced and manipulated a situation where the umpire paid a free kick and yeah clearly he got uh the best result out of that and then Zach got three a little bit undisiplined uh not again a really soft free kick but I guess don’t give him the chance to pay it but uh yeah I didn’t really like Raina going into this game but oh he’s my most hated player in the AFL right now so yeah he’s he’s an absolute cheater um and actor, stager, diver, whatever you like. So, I hope that sits with him forever. Um, just not good enough. Um, lack of integrity, just a yeah, shocking human being. Anyway, don’t want to go um too far down that rabbit hole. Feel like I’m still at the game where just want to run on the ground and Yeah. Anyway, uh so yeah, look, it wasn’t ideal and then yeah, Brisbane got a little bit of a sniff and should not have been a 15-point game um given the results. So, the umpiring um fraternity of a bit to answer for there. So, hopefully um there’s probably articles above um there to sort of explain a little bit more of how they got it wrong and they’ve been sort of getting it wrong. Um that’s that’s fine. It doesn’t affect the result this time, but don’t make this be what decides a grand final. If you’re going to do stuff that’s going to potentially affect a a score or affect a game in such a significant way, on the side of caution always. So thankfully that that wasn’t the side of the game and the Cats were able to yeah not uh not let that overwhelm them and yeah get overall by the situation even though the Lions were super close on the scoreboard but we’re so far away from it. uh three goals basically give gifted by the umpires for very soft free kicks in a big final. Um Lman the first one he got a soft one last year. He didn’t kick the goal but he had a shot early in the pitch when Stuart bumped him in the 5 m of the ball and again it was just yeah soft free kick. So Lman’s getting into rainer categories as well. Uh anyway so yeah the Cats were able to kick five in that third term and really yeah flex the muscles and um yeah Max Holmes and Bailey Smith the Dash brothers lifted big time. They were able to yeah get some separation and yeah the Jalong River if you saw on first crack was just the ability for Jalong to not use the corridor but use the wings to their advantage. Um get the out number off the back of that just yeah find that extra overlap and and number the contest to then be able to spread and sort of get that rope a doe uh play going. So yeah, Holmes was sensational that third term after having been pretty tough first half, not not sort of getting as much of the ball as he would have liked. And yeah, Bailey Smith kicked a big goal. Holmes kicked a big goal and they were just yeah, I liked. So it was great to see uh the defense and I’ll talk about the defense a bit more throughout the review, but yeah, they were absolutely sublime down back. They were just yeah, not not giving the lines anything and yeah, winning the ground ball super well. contested marks, intercept marks. Uh it was all happening there and u very pleased with yeah the team and how they were able to yeah withstand that the lines uh ball movement when they do get through. But for most of the night uh kudos and hats off to the midfield for minimizing um yeah the lines ability to have really good looks going into in towards their forward 50 minimizing the half back ball movement. So again, that’s that’s heads off to the forwards as well for not allowing really easy exits and sort of set up set up their play. Final term, um, the Cats sort of, yeah, they did what they had to do and they let the Lions get a couple and slowed down a little bit. They probably weren’t in the mood to, I guess, attack super crazy because if you do try to attack, I believe you give yourself kind of an opportunity. If you are using it pretty quickly, you can get get yourself caught out the other way. Um, so yeah, the cat slowed the ball movement down a little bit. Lines got a couple back, but ultimately, yeah, it uh we didn’t let two turn into three or anything crazy like that. So, we’re able to hold the momentum yet again. Really stoked that we had yeah, multiple challenges from Brisbane throughout the night and we we answered all of them and answered them comfortably. And whilst it was Jalong by 38 points really was a 10- goal win with um all the free kicks, all the silly soft free kicks that Brisbane got and Jalong’s inaccuracy as well. 16 goals 16. So it’s 32 scoring shots to 19 and there was a fair few that we didn’t even make the distance or didn’t didn’t register a score. So we’ve been getting 32 scoring shots a fair bit um throughout the season. I’ve been keeping a very close eye on number of scoring shots or or yeah goals or behinds combined. So yeah, very stoked with yeah, just our ability to shut Brisbane down. Uh we went after key playmakers for them. We didn’t Zoro still got a fair bit of meters gained. Um but probably not to the level you usually be used to. Uh shut my cleavage down. That was that was great. Um and played a massive part and yeah, I think Zack Bailey didn’t have a big game either. So, just our ability to lock down um those key players and it’s it’s easy to say it in the the pregame and easy for the coaches to say, “Oh, this is what we need to do.” But then actually going out there and doing it. Uh we went out there and did it in fine style. So, super stoked with um how that all panned out. Yeah. Finished our work pretty well all in all. Missed a few shots of course, but yeah, if uh Jalong can keep that kind of form up, uh good luck. Good luck is all I’ll say. All right, if my voice gets through all this, we’ll be doing well. I think L’s got a bit more of the ball. They do love to chipmark it around. Jalong did try and stop a lot of that corridor ball use which again super pleased with. I just love it’s okay to lose some games, but you you need to learn from them and I felt like we did that and yeah, did exactly what we we needed to do. Lots of lots more hand ball from the line. So yeah, the cats definitely attacked it more via kicking um to get more territory which you need in a big final. Uh 60 inside 50s plus 13 inside 50s for the cats lines slightly better with the ball in hand but yeah as we saw they they had a lot of hand ball. They also yeah cats put them under so much pressure efficiency in side 50 sitting with our average there. We’re just very dangerous when it does go inside 50 very um yeah tough to tough to stop because there’s just so many players that can hurt you in the front half. Even our defenders were getting forward kicking goals. So it was yeah everyone was a chance pretty even in the free kicks interestingly. Jalong also got one free kick in the last two minutes of the game for uh a free kick inside 50. Brisbane got three in the first half. Um so yeah that’s that’s interesting. Probably had more free kicks right in front of goal as well. Uh Darcy Ford had a fair few hit outs as we saw. Um but doesn’t really tell the story of the day, does it? With the the clearance numbers pretty well even and yeah, the cats out of the center bounce were just dynamic. They were yeah, ferocious and it was just it just kept going forward and yeah, putting Brisbane under all sorts of pressure. So, doesn’t matter how good you are. If uh yeah, if you’re getting um blitzed around the midfield and around the stoppage, yeah, it’s definitely going to be hard work around the Grand Brisbane slightly better than Jalong, but by four. Uh contested ball was great for the Cats, plus 16 there. So, yeah, just monstered Brisbane in the contest. Uh more outside ball for Brizzy as we see there. and more turnovers from Jalong’s wonderful pressure and Jalong over their 100 marks. So around their average and Brisbane usually probably get another 15 20 marks a game but they didn’t on this occasion. Jalong able to shut that down a lot and force them long down the line which is great. 21 marks inside 50 to six. That is just an incredible number against yeah a side that we’ve kind of struggled to find cohesion and marks inside 50. But yeah, just that um that insane work rate that the cats do, the the wingers, the half backs, the half forwards that come down all the way from the other other end of the ground and and race back to goal. Uh plus six contestant marks of the cats there. They uh superb on that front. Time in front. Uh it’s been a pretty good set for the Cats. Again, I want to see the average throughout the year for teams. So I reckon that’s a very underrated stat. Uh 80 tackles to 64. Well, I think it was 50 in the first half for Jalong. So, yeah, they were absolutely all over them. 17 uh sorry, 14 tackles to seven inside 50. And look at the run and carry from the Cats and the lack of run from the Lions there. I’m I’m sure most of those would have been Max Holmes. He loves a bounce. He loves to get on the bike. All right. Um the votes uh very very difficult. I still don’t even know who I’m actually going to pick. So, I’m probably going to do a 5 4 3 2 1 from next year, but uh I won’t do it this time around. I’m going to go I’m going to go Mark Blitz. Three votes. He kicked a goal. He had 20 disposals, five marks, five tackles, 26 hit outs, six clearances. He was a beast. Um he just kept grabbing the ball, sending it forward for Jalong and yeah causing chaos everywhere. Um he worked so hard and just yeah I I think just off the back of his ability to be such a great utility over a long period of time. Um in a big final you got your you know your main ruckman out injured and he comes in and steps up significantly like that. Um yeah it’s one of the best games I’ve ever seen Blitz play actually. So yeah, it was an enormous performance from him and yeah, super stoked with how he played. Two votes, I’m going to go Ollie Dempsey. Three goals for Ollie. 25 disposals, uh, six tackles, three marks, three clearances. Uh, also set up a goal. Uh, I thought he was fantastic for the entirety of the game. U, he kept hitting the scoreboard when we needed to. So yeah, he was um, I felt he was excellent. Oh jeez. This one vote’s going to be going to kill me. There’s so many players that deserve a vote. I’m going to go Tom Stewart a vote. One goal from the back line. 22 possessions for him. Seven marks, three tackles, 500 meters gained. I just thought, yeah, he was uh playing some of his best footy that we’ve seen in play. Also hit the scoreboard um from half back and yeah, he was able to kick a major there, which was fantastic, and we needed it at the time. Um yeah, so I apologize for any players I haven’t given a vote. There’s I could probably give a vote to 12 players to be honest. Uh so many players stood up and sort of had a moment here and there. Um Max Holmes was yeah splendid. Kicked a goal, 23 disposals, six tackles, five clearances, 630 m gained. Um also set up a goal as well. That was a wonderful kick and yeah, he definitely got going sort of later in the game and I guess the players I have picked I’m going off of four full four quarters but yeah that’s not to discredit you know any any player here. I’m going to have to go 5 4 3 2 1 from next year just to make it a bit easier on myself. Uh Tommy Atkins unbelievable just yeah he should have got a vote but yeah he kicked a goal he had the 17 disposals 10 tackles um took a couple of marks as well three clearances set up a goal as well. Yeah, he was extraordinary. He just does all the tough stuff that um yeah, the cats ask him for every week. Absolutely. Yeah, heart and soul of the cats. Gran Myers had a pretty solid game. Um 19 disposals for him. He had the seven marks, five tackles, also a couple of clearances. Not as dynamic as and as dangerous as he has been. Um but yeah, he was still quite well involved and and sort of again he had a few moments here and there and played his role um as well as he could have. Jez was super hot early days and again probably had I think he had seven shots on goal and scored five times. Um he kicked two goals, three he had the 13 disposal, seven marks, I re contested marks in the first quarter and he’s not really a contestant mark on a guy that that’s probably um yeah not not his absolute go-to, but great to know that he’s got that in the kit bag when he needs to have it. Four tackles as well, so he was engaged there in keeping the ball in our front half. set a go up as well. So yeah, he was Yeah, him him being fired up early was just what uh the do the doctor ordered. The closer Brad Close played a fantastic game. He kicked a goal just towards the end there. 18 disposals which is quite a lot for him. Three marks, five tackles, and he also had a clearance. He set up a couple of goals himself. Um he kept Zoro as well as held as you can possibly ask for. Sora still got a fair few meters gained, but when you take 16 plus kickins, yeah, of course you’re going to get a fair few meters gained. Uh Shaw Manner was really good at the 15 disposals, nine tackles for him, three marks, three clearances. He set up a couple of goals and what I loved about it was when a lot of players were blasting it away in side 50, he just lowered the eyes twice and hit up two targets, which ended up being two goals right when we need him in that second term. Um, so yeah, absolutely love that from Mana Dangerfield. Patty, big game. He had the nine disposals, six marks, five tackles, four clearances, and a goal assist. I loved how Scotty just threw him in the guts straight up just to make sure that uh we gave ourselves the best chance to start off well and feel really good about ourselves. And yeah, he had some really big moments, a great goal assist to to Dempsey, which was pretty awesome goal um to see. So yeah, he won some key contests. He was uh tough as always. Bailey Smith played well. He kicked a goal at the 22 disposals, uh three marks, four tackles, four clearances. Yeah, kicked a ripping goal in that third term right when we needed it. He works hard. Um yeah, so no, he he played well without sort of yeah being incredible. And that’s what the beauty about all these numbers. There’s no one that’s been outstanding, but so many players, 15 disposals plus. Uh, very wellrounded performance by the team. Jackie Bose kicked a goal, uh, 16 disposals for him, four marks, uh, tackle, couple clearances, set up a goal as well. Just does some really clever things and, yeah, he was involved in a couple of passages of play, especially in that third term, getting, yeah, quite productive there. Um, yeah, just become a very classy, clean sort of player and yeah, really liking what he’s doing for the Cats. see had the 14 disposal, six marks, couple of tackles, uh a clearance, and a goal assist. I think outside of Yeah, he’s a little blue on Cam Rain. He was Yeah, he was as good as you could ask for down back. Sam Doning, I like what he did. He kicked a goal right when we needed one. He had 411 just before he had had a shot and yeah, was able to nail the set shot, which can be sometimes the hardest thing to do in finals when everyone else is missing. nine disposals for him. He had the four marks, three tackles. Got a little bit of ruck work there as well. 11 hit outs and also had a goal assist. So, yeah, it was uh I liked what uh yeah, Sam did across the night. Can’t speak more highly of this man, Jack Henry, and how he’s not ever considered as an all Australian key defender is crazy. Yeah, the 13 disposals, seven marks, and also out of tackle. He’s just Yeah. no fuss, beats his man more often than not. Um, hardly loses a contest. So, yeah, he’s an outstanding player for Yeah, for Jalong. Loss was good. He had the 13 possessions, six marks for him as well. Got a late tackle as well. Um, yeah, nice rebound off half back. That left foot, right foot combination was yeah, beautiful to watch. Jackie Martin kicked a goal. He had the 12 disposals as well. Five marks. Very clean in the air. uh love what he does in the air. Uh tackle a couple of clearances as well and also set up a go up. So yeah, just again he doesn’t need doesn’t need 20 touches and four goals just just those little bits and pieces and everyone’s doing that you know the little bits and pieces which is um you know been significant to help get a a result. Tyson Sangel I think it’s his fourth game in a row not scoring a goal against Brisbane but that’s all right. Um he he still had some really good moments. had that smother early days on Zoro which then led to a Jeremy Cameron goal uh which we can see there 12 uh possessions for him and also took seven marks. So he was really good in the air as well and he competed in some really key contests which led to ground balls which led to goals. Uh also had a tackle as well. So yeah, again does doesn’t need to kick five and and dominate. Um he he just does does his bit, you know, his little bit for the team and and that’s uh that’s all we ask for. Sully at the 10 disposals took three marks. Also had four tackles. Yeah, I don’t think he really had any tough moments. He might have had Yeah, one little moment here and there, but by and large he was um yeah, pretty comfortable in his first final. So, yeah, good to see him up and cominging and developing into a very nice player for for Jalong. Scratcher had a interesting night. Uh he had a moment. He finally had a moment on Harris Andrews. He was able to kick a goal. He had another set shot um which he missed but he had the six touches, four tackles, also had a mark, couple of hit outs. So again, yeah, he played a lot of the game. Um I don’t think Harris Andrews tore us up too badly. So I guess that’s a positive. And yeah, he had a few contest wins in the end. Uh and that goal from 50 in that last quarter, the first goal is yeah, the stats don’t read amazing, but just the the context and the time of the game and after having a pretty rough game against Aris Andrews, uh that was brilliant to get that finish off. Marco Connor was excellent, 10 disposals, three marks. Um that was about it. But yeah, Rain did kick three. Two were gifted by the umpires really. He had one one-on-one contest win which Okconor was kind of out of position um from lack of pressure out the field and then yeah Raina went on to kick that one but uh yeah Raina could have kicked five or six. Uh Oene Mullen kicked his first goal in League footy. Seven touches for him. Uh three tackles, couple of clearances but more importantly he kept mugluggage right down. I think he had less than 14 touches or something like that. uh yeah in a big big final was uh yeah just did his role and you know it’s it’s these players doing their role that that uh across the board everyone does their their bit and you get the result. Jo came on early days almost had a goal assist and unfortunately Stingle missed it but uh yeah he had very limited game time but he was the sub and and uh yeah came on with about three or four minutes to go. Okie dokie. All right. So, I don’t think we’ll quite have exactly what the go is yet, but uh what I do know is we’ll play the win around of Adelaide and Hawthorne at the MCG. So, yeah, I mean it’s it’s going to be tough. I’m probably leaning more towards the Hawks getting the job done, but there’s always a bias towards the team that wins versus the qualifying final loser. Um yeah, I just they just don’t seem to have that magic at at grand level inside their forward 50 at the moment. uh without Rashelli or or Ranken. I don’t know if Rashelli will come back in. I know Rankin’s only going to come back in if it’s grand final day. So yeah, look, it’ll be interesting. And yeah, I mean I think Adelaide at the MCG might be a bit easier to stomach than Hawthorne and the MCG in front of their fans. So yeah, we’ll we’ll see how that pans out, but uh no matter what preliminary finals, you can’t just uh silently get through them. You got to you got to face it head on and any team can sort of win on those given nights. So yeah, um Jalong will be the MCG. This game will decide yeah where that’s at. I believe it’ll be where it’s at in terms of which team we’re playing. I believe it’ll be a Friday night game. Um most likely given the Jalong and Adelaide at one and two. So yeah, I’ll have the extra day rest whoever wins out of that. But yeah, I mean I’m feeling good about Jalong if they can keep up this kind of form. Basically a 10 goal win over the reigning Premers and I’ve been pitching Brisbane as a team to beat. So yeah, it doesn’t I think it’s really really critical to understand that yeah, it’s a great win and celebrate the win, but um no, that’s only 33% of the work’s been done and there’s still more work to do. Um, and just because you play this well this week doesn’t guarantee that you play this well in a fortnight. Um, so fully aware of that and yeah, all Jalong can do is put themselves in a good position healthwise and I think no nothing crazy from an injury front um, from Jalong’s perspective. So yeah, you just got to keep playing good footy and and go to the well a couple more times if uh yeah, if you get the opportunity and just see what happens preliminary final night, which anything can sort of happen on prelimin final night. We’ve seen that before. We’ve seen Richmond in 2018. We’ve seen we’re calling one and um yeah, Essen and Carlton in 1999. So again, yeah, it’s just been the best team on the night. It doesn’t doesn’t matter too much about past results. So yeah, that’s uh that’s all for me folks. Uh I’ve just got through I just found a way with the with the voice which has been struggling over the course of the weekend after yeah big Friday that’s for sure. Um but there you go. So super pleased with the win. Um yeah, another a big final win for the cats. 38 point uh yeah 40 38 point result in the end for Jalong um to their way. So go through the prelimin final and we’ll see what happens from there. So, hope you enjoyed the review, guys. Uh, comment your thoughts on the game and how you sort of see the cats going over the next sort of, yeah, few weeks and where you think they sort of stand in the grand scheme of things. Um, always interested to hear feedback there. Give the video a like and subscribe away so you can keep up to date with how the cats are going throughout the final series. Really appreciate you guys tuning in. Have a good one and I’ll catch you on the next video.

Probably the best they've played since the game against Collingwood, early in the season.
