Charleston, W. Va. – After playing 18 holes on Monday, the Wheeling University Women’s Golf team returned to action on day two of the golden eagle Invitational, posted by the University of Charleston. The Cardinals would play the final 18 holes, shooting a combined 470 in the round to bring their two-day total to 905. It was a pair of career best efforts from the Cardinals top two golfers that led the Cardinals as they rounded out their second Mountain East Conference (MEC) Invitational of the season.

For the third time in three rounds this season, senior Ella Keffer set a new PR, shooting a 75 in round two. It was a 7-stroke drop from her day one score and helped her jump 16 places in the individual standings. Keffer would shoot par on two of the first three holes, starting her day on the back nine, And sat at +1 hitting the turn. She would hit two more pars to start the front nine before adding a stroke to her score on hole three. She got that stroke back two holes later, hitting a birdie on hole five to get her back to +1. She would finish out the front nine with two more pars and shot a +2 as she went back to finish her back nine. She ended up finishing strong, getting par on five of her final six holes as she addeed a +2 On the back nine to round out her day. Keffer was able to drop her score from round 1 to round two for the second straight event this fall and moved into the top 35 in the field. Her effort helped her finish 33rd overall As she continues to be the Cardinals top golfer down the stretch.

The other PR effort came courtesy of Sophomore Brielle Milhoan, who finished the round with an 82 in round two. It was a two-stroke drop for Milhoan who, like Keffer, was able to drop her score from round one to round two for the second straight event. She began her day on hole 17 and got off to a rough start putting up a +4 Over her first three holes. She would settle things down with back-to-back pars on holes two and three and hit her groove on the back half of the front nine. She hit her fourth par of the day on hole six and followed that up With a birdie on hole seven to get one stroke back. She finished out the front nine hitting par on both holes eight and nine and shot +4 over the nine holes. The rest of the back nine would be up and down for the sophomore, with two birdies spread amongst the final seven holes. Milhoan would add four strokes to her score over the final seven holes, but was still able to finish with a PR effort.

Rounding out the event for the Cardinals was sophomores Mallory Bozovich and Julia Daniels. After falling just short of her career best on day one, Bozovich would shoot 145 (+74) In the final round of play. It brought her two-day score to 259, taking seven strokes off her two round score from the first tournament of the year. Julia Daniels would round out the event for the Cardinals, shooting 168 (+97) to bring her two-day score to 323 in her first Collegiate golf event.

The Wheeling University Women’s Golf team returns to action on Monday, September 15th, when they take on the Concord/Glenville State Invitational.
