Rory McIlroy is poised for a significant payday as he gears up to participate in the 2025 BMW PGA Championship this week.

The esteemed Rolex Series event will once again take place at Surrey’s Wentworth Club, England, with the Northern Irish golf sensation being one of the big names competing for the $1.6 million winner’s prize.

This follows hot on the heels of McIlroy’s impressive fourth win of the year at the Irish Open – his first triumph since securing the career Grand Slam at the Masters in April. The world No. 2 demonstrated nerves of steel as he clinched victory in an exciting playoff against Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren on Sunday, having earlier ramped up the mind games ahead of the Ryder Cup.

Fresh from winning his home open for the second time, he’s now ready to tee off at his local course in Wentworth this week, having moved from the U.S. to his new mansion in Surrey, England.

This represents the 36-year-old’s fourth DP World Tour Counting Tournament of the season, making him eligible for a portion of the $6M bonus pool available at the conclusion of the season-long points competition in Dubai.

The top 10 players in the standings at the end of the DP World Tour playoffs are all eligible, provided they’ve participated in at least four Counting Tournaments on the European Tour this season.

McIlroy currently holds a substantial lead in the season-long rankings as he targets his seventh Race to Dubai title. However, his competitor Scottie Scheffler currently leads the Race to Dubai’s points list.

The American appears only on the Non-Member Race to Dubai points list since he lacks DP World Tour membership, despite competing in select tournaments.

The world No. 1 has taken part in just one Counting Tournament and will skip this week’s BMW PGA Championship, making his qualification for the season-ending prize highly doubtful.

DON’T MISS!

However, the premier DP World Tour event will still attract elite talent beyond McIlroy this week, featuring Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry, plus Brooks Koepka, Min Woo Lee and Joaquin Niemann.

McIlroy, who had already captured the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Players Championship and the Masters in 2025, reflected on Sunday that this season could represent the peak of his illustrious career.

“To do what I did earlier in the year and then to come home and win my national open, no matter what happens for the rest of the year, that’s a pretty cool year,” he said. “2025 is going to go down as one of the best, if not the best of my career.

“As I said, we’re not finished yet. I’ve got a big week next week at Wentworth and then obviously everyone’s looking forward to the Ryder Cup. I’m just so happy my game’s in good shape. I feel like I’m playing well and I’m excited for what’s coming up.”
