Welcome back to the channel. I’m Graeme and today I’m going to be giving you a bit more insight into the RDER Cup 2025, taking a closer look at the venue Beth Page Black and exploring some potential pairings for both Team USA and Team Europe. Let’s start with the course. Beth Page Black is a beast designed by AW Tillingast and opened in 1936. It’s a public course run by New York State Parks and was hosted the 2002 and 2009 US Opens won by Tiger Woods and Lucas Glover. It also stays the 2019 PGA Championship where Brooks Kepka came out on top. At 7,465 yards with a slope rating of 155 and a course rating of 77.5, this place is no joke. To put this into context for amateur golfers and having put these details along with a handicap index of 10.0, 0 into the USGA calculator, a 10 handicapper would get 20 shots on the championship tease of Beth plays back. Even myself with a current 3.1 handicap index would get 11 shots. No wonder there is the famous warning sign at the course. The course has massive organic shaped bonkers, dog legs that punish you if you miss the correct side of the fairway, and plenty of trees ready to block approach shots, especially on the front nine. Straight, long driving is absolutely key here. Now, the course hasn’t hosted the world’s best since 2019, so how relevant those stats are is up for debate, so I’m not going to read off a bunch of them here. Back then, the top five were Brooks Kepka, Dustin Johnson, Matt Wallace, Jordan Smith, and Patrick Kentley. Of those, only Kantley is actually at this RDER Cup. As for this year’s Ryder Cup field, here’s how they fared in 2019. Canley tied third. Mroy and Lowry tied eighth. Shelfley tied 16th. Rosen Burns tied 29th. Fitzpatrick tied 41st. Fleetwood and Hatton tied 48th. Spawn tied 54th. And Ram and Dshambo both missed the cup. So only about half of the 2025 Ryder Cup field teed up here in 2019. But do remember 6 years is a long time in golf. Ram and Dashambo are very different players today compared to 2019. Let’s now look at my holes of interest. Beth Paige has some iconic tests and plenty of drama spots we’ll be watching closely, but here are some of the holes I want to mention. The first hole, the atmosphere here is going to be electric. The first tier a Rider Cup is always insane. Imagine Rory or Bryson trying to cut the corner right out the gate. Sparks will fly. Imagine the roar if the first American forome on Friday wins the hole and how that roar races back to the first tea. Alternately, imagine the hush from the first green if the opening European pairing go one up and how that will impact the groups back on the tea surrounded by the grand stands of supporters. The third hole is a 230 yard par three with a long narrow green. Even if you hit that green, a three putt is very much in play. It could be a very interesting opening par three after the first couple of holes have given the players a chance to settle down. The ninth hole looks simple, but it is a bit of a trap. It’s a really wide fairway, yes, but if you miss it, you’re in serious trouble. 12th hole, over 500 yd and a par4. It was one of the toughest on the course during the 2019 PGA Championship. The 13th hole is a monster at over 600 yards. Some players might go for it into Rory the Shambo and looking at you, but don’t expect many to succeed. The 17th hole is another long par three and at this point in the round, even more intimidating. It’s 207 yds with a sideways green and bunkers everywhere. It’s a tough up and down from the bunkers if you miss the green. And under rider cup pressure, this could be a make or break hole. And finally, the 18th hole. It’s the finisher. Just over 400 yards, but with bunkers and rough lurking on both sides. Under rider cup pressure, a waywood t-shot into one of these bunkers could cost you everything. All right, so let’s move on to some potential pairings. Starting with the Americans, the US only has six returning players from the 2023 team and just six from last year’s President’s Cup. So, the chemistry maybe isn’t as obvious as you think it might be. We’ll almost certainly see Canlay and Sha. That’s one pretty certain. Expect Sheffller to partner with Henley or Burns. Sheffller and Henley worked well at the President’s Cup and Sheffller and Burns are close friends. I wouldn’t be surprised if Justin Thomas and Bryson de Shambo teamed up. Bryson’s driving could fire up the New York crowd and it might even just lift JT2. Think of it as the Ram and Hatton pairing for Europe. As for the rookies, Keegan may have to throw a couple together. Maybe Ben Griffin and Cameron Young in a forball. That sounds like a recipe for birdies to me. Have one interesting equipment note, and that’s that Ben Griffin uses a Maxfly ball on tour. It’s a very rare ball to be using, and it could complicate him playing for since matching golf balls in that format can matter as much as matching personalities. It’s a quirk, but it’s something to note. Now, let’s have a look at team Europe. Europe is essentially rolling out the same side as 2023 with just the small swap of one identical twin for the other. That makes predicting pairings a bit easier. Expect Ram and Hatton, Maroy and Fleetwood, Rose and McIntyre, and Havland and Oberg to feature at some point. The Lowry and Striker partnership from 2023 may not return. Both need better form to justify in my eyes. And having heard uh Luke Donald speak recently, obviously with Sept Straka’s wife having had a premature baby, obviously we wish them both the best. Obviously he’s not going to be at Wentworth for the BMW. So his reps of playing and his ability to play with some of the other guys where Europe normally pair up all their RDER Cup players in groups um appears to be something that might get missed. So I’m still very conscious about that pairing of Lowry and Sept Striker. Rasmus Hoygard could slot into afternoon four balls where chemistry is less critical with any of the experienced players. And we might even see Fitzpatrick alongside Rory for a match or two hopefully to help improve his RDER Cup record. So that’s Beth Paige Black and some potential Ryder Cup pairings to look out for. In my next video, I’ll be ranking all 24 players, not by pure ability, but who I think will make the biggest impact at this year’s Ryder Cup.
