If you are reading this, I hope you have a good day and GBR! 🙂

Let’s be real. Today’s game will likely dictate the rest of the season for Nebraska. How good are we really? Are we worthy of going to the college 12 playoffs or are we merely a six or seven win team? I’ll be very honest with you. Akan’s not very good. This will be a victory for Nebraska. Akan will likely only win two games at most of the season. They’re one of the worst teams in FBS. So, I’m not going to debate whether or not we’re on upset watch. We’re going to win and we’re going to win comfortably. It’s not about that though. It’s not even about what the score is. The reason why today is so important for Nebraska are all the specific issues that we had versus Cincinnati. All of the positional groups that we need to step up, all the players that we need to step up, all of the coaching mistakes that we just can’t afford to have in two weeks when we face off against Michigan. So, in today’s video, I’m going to go over all of the specific details that I need answers to versus Akan, the things that we need to improve at, and so much more. So, really quick, hit that like button if you’re excited about today. Subscribe for daily Husker content. Only place on YouTube you can get it once can hit that subscribe button. But on that note, let’s dive into it. Okay, we’re not talking about the score today. We’re not talking about, you know, what’s going to be after the bowl game, what we’re celebrating necessarily. Are we going to win 50 to zero? Are we going to win 60 to zero? We know we’re going to win. I I’m very confident saying that. We’re not on upset watch. If you think so, you’re you’re wrong. Nebraska will win and we will win mightily. But it’s not about that. The reason why today’s game will determine the rest of Nebraska season are all of the specific details that we need addressed sooner rather than later. We need to get them addressed now. So, let’s start things off with the first thing that I have my eyes out for. We need answers with his defensive line because let’s be very real. They did not play well for Cincinnati at all. One of the worst defensive line performances I’ll say in the last 10 years for Nebraska. If you want one reason why Cincinnati put up 17 points, if you want one reason why they were in that game at all, it’s because of the defensive line. Everybody else did their job. The offense did enough. The DBs had one of the best performances we’ve seen literally this century for Nebraska statistically. The secondary was locked down. The linebackers were great. The defensive line is a huge concern. They couldn’t stop a nose bleed. They couldn’t get to the quarterback. They couldn’t stop the run. They gave about seven seven yards of carry. So, this defensive line could very well hold Nebraska back from winning 8, nine, 10 games because we know that in this conference in particular, you need to have one of the best defensive lines in order to even be competitive. So, today they play Akan with a awful offensive line, an awful offense in general, with a quarterback who, yes, he’s a veteran, but he is a problem under pressure. If Nebraska’s defensive line can’t dominate in literally every phase, we have an issue. And I I absolutely expect our exteriority to be good today. I think William Zeri is going to shine again. I think Kona Davis, while he’s going to play very sparingly, I assume uh I think that you know he’s going to play well along with Jaylen J. So I’m not even worried about our five techniques, our three techniques, our jacks. All of that I think is going to play well. The one specific group I’m worried about are our zero techniques and our just defensive linemen, our excuse me, our defensive tackles, our nose tackles, okay? The Ryan Popas of the world, the Elijah Jews of the world because they were absolutely terrible versus Cincinnati. Okay. Okay. We were they were run through the A gap every single play because Elijah Judy is getting pushed back five yards. So listen, our defensive line need to shine. I need Elijah Judy to get his lick back. I need him to dominate. Um this game will pretty much tell me everything we need to know. If Elijah Judy dominates and plays well, okay, he’s serviceable, right? He can bounce back. But if Elijah Judy is not holding his own, if he’s just playing average, that tells me a lot. Okay, against this Akran team. Okay, if you’re not playing well versus Akan, you’re not going to play well literally against anybody. So why are you even in the ball game? Okay, so this defensive line, they need to answer a lot of things. They need to give confidence back in the fan base. I’m looking to you, John Butler, Terry Brain, Matt R, all those players. You need to shine. That needs to be a point of emphasis versus Akram. Second thing I’m looking out for, let’s go this running back depth. Okay, we need to find our running back, too. We do not have that right now. Okay, Emtt Johnson got 30 touches versus Cincinnati. That’s unacceptable. And Emtt Johnson’s a great player, don’t get me wrong. and you want to get your great players involved, but 30 touches is excessive. And when you get to the Big 10 play and when you’re playing Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, USC, that’s not going to fly because you are going to get injured quicker than you know. You are going to get banged up so fast you can’t even think. So while that’s acceptable maybe for Emma Johnson to get 30, you know, touches versus Cincinnati, I mean, he’s going to be on crutches by the end of the season if this progresses. And then if Emma Johnson’s out of the ball game, you got no other option. So, for that reason, we need to find a running back, too, who can take the load off of EJ. Is it Mai Nelson? Can he improve his IQ, which he struggled mightily at? What about, you know, Isaiah Mozzy? Like, he looked decent when he got some snaps, but he’s still learning the position fully. What about Quinn Knives? All the hype around him in spring ball. You finally get your opportunity. You’re healthy. Go out there and show it. You know, I wouldn’t mind seeing Connor Booth out there, right? I wouldn’t even mind seeing Ken Williams. Literally try every running back. I mean, if I know Jamaran Parker’s not healthy, but heck, I would have loved to see Jamaran on this game. We need somebody at running back, literally anybody, because if Emma Johnson does go down, which it’s trending that way with the amount of touches he’s getting, we’re screwed. So, we need to find out who that second running back is. We will likely get some clarity after tonight. Third thing that we need answers to today, okay, simply put, you know, who steps up in by getting more reps. Okay, we know that a lot of these true freshmen, they’re going to get their first real opportunity of their careers. We know that some second year, third year players, they’re going to get a lot more reps than usual simply because we’re going to be blowing out AA from the very beginning. So, you know, who steps up, who shines, who potentially earns a higher spot on the depth chart. You know, TJ Latif, my eyes are on him. Okay. How good is TJ really as a true freshman? I’m excited. I’m excited to see what he can do with his legs, with his dual threat ability, with his winning mindset. Okay. Again, any running back, I want any running back to shine. I don’t care who it is, whether it’s Connor Booth or Kenneth Williams or Quinn Knives, I don’t care. I need one running back to prove themselves besides Emma Johnson. You know, I’m looking at the wide receivers. What can Cortez Mills do? What can Jeremiah Jones do? I mean, that’s somebody the fan base, they’re going to be intrigued with the second they see Jeremiah Jones at 6’4, at 225 pounds, with his wingspan, with his ability, with his speed. I mean, fan base is going to fall in love with him. So, I want to see Jeremiah Jones out there. Like, who shines on the offensive line? A present Tomoa, Houston Connor Torres, a Grant Bricks. I think we’re going to get at least one offensive line stud. defensive line. We need anybody anybody on this defensive line to prove themselves. You know, maybe like a Su Lefodu at the nose tackle spot. We need depth in the interior. What about Mason Goldman, Ashton Murphy, even a David Huffkin? Like, this is your chance to prove yourself. You know, all the hype. That’s Steve Simple’s favorite player. Like, can he prove Steve Sipple, right? David Huffkin, you get your chance today. Dawson Merritt, right? I mean, you just go down the list. Like, I want to I I just want a couple of these young guys to maybe earn their role, you know, into the two deep, into the three deep. Um, I need some guys that can give us some give us some hope, right? I like the starters, but the depth right now is they’re not very good on this team. So, my big question is who steps up from a depth perspective. One of these young guys in particular. That is the question. Fourth thing, simply put, I mean, Nebraska got to fix the penalties. We got to fix these stupid disciplinary issues. Now, granted, we only had three penalties for Cincinnati, which is not that bad, but it’s awful when you consider when those penalties occurred, right? One of them was a false start in the goal line. Another one, I believe, was another false start. And then our last one was a pass interference in the fourth quarter that could have very well cost us the game. We didn’t have a clutch interception right at the very end. So, you just got to fix all these penalties. I mean, again, my challenge for this team, have zero penalties versus Akan. Have zero. Okay? Because if you are undisiplined versus Akan, oh my goodness, what are you gonna be when you play Michigan? What are you gonna be when you play Penn State? That’s my challenge. Zero penalties whatsoever. ever. And if you have any penalties, get out of the ball game, your bench, right? We’re going to give your reps to another guy. Okay? We just can’t have that in a ball game like this. So, zero penalties whatsoever. Fifth thing, I mean, be aggressive. I want to see us be aggressive, creative, take risks, okay? This is one of those ball games you can afford to take risks. We’re going to win. So, go for it on a fourth down. If it’s a if it’s a fourth down and five and you’re at the 50 yard line, go for it, okay? Cuz why not? Worst case scenario, Akan gets the football back. What is Akan going to do with the 50? They’re not going to do much. They have a terrible offense. Go for it. Okay, experiment. Okay, see what works because there’s likely going to be a time maybe during the season where it’s a fourth down and three and you’re considering go foring it. Go going for it and then you go back to okay, maybe what you did versus AAN something worked and okay, I have confidence doing that now rather than punting it. Okay, you got to be efficient on fourth downs in order to be successful and you got to be aggressive sometimes. So, go for it. I know. I want to see some deep shots. Tell me, I want I want to see some deep shots. I want to see Jakory Bar with a 50-yard bomb. I want to see that. We didn’t see that vers Cincinnati. I want to see some blitz concepts, right, with this defensive line. Um, just being more aggressive, right? Simply put. Number six, uh, again, I want to see what TJ can do. So, if we know that if Dylan ever were to go down, we have some decent insurance there. And then number seven, I I need to stay healthy in all phases of the ball game, okay? I don’t want to see a single player get injured. I don’t care who you are. I don’t even care if you’re if you’re a walk-on fourth stringer. I don’t want anybody get injured. That’s the worst thing that happens in Nebraska is we constantly get injured in these games that really don’t matter, right? like we can’t have any injuries. So, those are the seven things in particular I’m looking out for. And also, again, I just we we need Nebraska to win by 60. Like really, I I I don’t want anything to be good enough, right? I don’t want us to just be here be up like 45 to zero and for everybody to be like, “Oh, that’s good enough.” Like, that’s not good enough. Win 60 to zero, win 70 to zero. I feel like too too many times, at least with Matt Rule in particular, we’re way too conservative against these bum teams. Like, we should have beat Northern Iowa by a lot more than what we did. We were actually kind of struggling against Northern Iowa. They were driving on us pretty consistently in the second half. We kind of struggled a little bench versus UT. So I mean literally like we need to win 60 to zero. Prove to the fan base once again why you can’t actually make the cultural playoffs. It’s the small things like this that really give confidence to the to the fan base. You know if we go out there and only again we only won like 35 to three. Cool. That’s great. But you’re playing a terrible AAN team. Like you should win by more. You know I remember Brett Beam on Illinois. I can’t remember who they played Western Illinois, I believe, their first game of the season and they blew them out. They literally won by 50 and Brett Beuma after the game still wasn’t satisfied. He wasn’t happy with it. Okay, that’s the mindset we need to have. We can’t just be oh happy about every win. Like no, we need to have that killer mindset like we need to constantly improve. And that’s something I feel like we haven’t done too much like versus Cincinnati. I think we were a little bit too happy after we beat Cincinnati. Like we we we should have lost to him honestly. Like we should have had that killer mindset like okay that wasn’t good enough. That wasn’t acceptable. We we know we won but we also need to improve. We need to have that mindset versus actor. Okay? Like we go, we’re going out there to kill our prey. Let’s see him do it. So, all right guys, let me know your thoughts about today. Let me know what you’re thinking, what you’re excited for. Hey, if you made it this far, hit that like button and subscribe. As always, folks, go grab it. Go roll. I will see you after the game. We will be at Memorial Stadium postgame. 1. Wilson you hit the mark with needing a killer mindset. Impose your will Big Red and take over the game early! Carter Nelson time to roll!

  2. Ya really think today's game will have that big of an impact on the season? I think the worst thing that could happen would be a couple injuries to important players. Just get the lead and get outta there with the win.

  3. This game? Define us not sure I agree beating up on a Acron team. I agree we have some serious issues. Rhule needs to stomp a mudhole in the coaches asses migets on the d line is a hole they created.

  4. C'mon, 0 penalties is a lot to expect when the refs can easily call some BS penalty like they often do. Also should be a lot of very young guys playing, we hope. Seems like it's been so long since we have blown anyone out it's hard to even picture what that would look like. Unlike you, I will never fault the team for being happy after a win. Especially first game of the season against a team that may turn out to be better than most people expect. It's a win! Far from perfect but a win! And I seriously doubt anyone connected with the team was happy that we didn't look better. Am I going to whining tomorrow if we "only" win 33-3? No. I'm more worried how the starters and the 2nd team does. If we get further down the depth chart, I wouldn't be shocked if we do give up a score or 2 in the 4th qtr.

  5. With our current defensive line…not a chance we should even consider a winning season

  6. Wilson you keep tweeting about Mark Gronowski. Lives rent free in your head. I'm going to laugh so hard if he ends up beating Nebraska this year. Then what?

  7. Wat Matt Rhule say we have to be at everybody else then pick those top teams off one by one each yeah at least get one win against them this season

  8. If we are not playing 2nd and 3rd string on offense by end of third quarter were going to struggle in big 10 play. I mean the water boy should be starting qb by end of fourth quarter.

  9. Our running game will struggle in big ten play. I just don't understand why we don't have aleast 3 quality hard hitting running backs. So running game is a problem that will also create problems for Dylan.

  10. Jeremiah Jones should be a defensive end or outside linebacker. His highlights on defense he was man handling everyone. Offense he was pretty good but no breakout speed. Defensive end or linebacker and tight end maybe he could play both but defensive is his better position imo.
