The Back 9 continues on the DP World Tour with an elite field gathered at The K Club for the Amgen Irish Open. Rory McIlroy heads the field, with the World Number Two chasing a second Irish Open title after his victory at The K Club in 2016 and returns to the event for the first time as a career Grand Slam winner following his triumph at the Masters Tournament. Fellow Major Champions and winners of this event Shane Lowry and Pádraig Harrington also tee it up, as does a third Amgen amabassador in Séamus Power. They are not the only major champions that are in the field, as Franceso Molinari, Danny Willett, and Brooks Koepka among others. Rounding out the field’s big names is Luke Donald who is looking to get in a good week before taking on the challenge of captaining Team Europe ahead of the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Quickly back down forward the te gave a couple home uh back on the way home yesterday. Bogeies at seven and eight round a 71 but it is the 70th edition of the Amjan Irish Open. A slow starter Rory Maroy wonderful second round player and just builds on that and then you find him at the end on that board wherever that might be. Well, we shall see. He’ll take dead aim. Just land it behind it. Maybe just with a little bit of spin. Oh, under it. Yeah, it was just a little bit of spin. That’s nicely controlled from Maroy. Classic grip and a result to match. Some classic Mroy there at one. Trying to bully the hole. Great. Nice. And doing a good job of it. It’s kind of country mile right down the middle. Just a nice little dead armor. Take the spin out of it. Just a chip shot from 92. Look out. Well, in two shots is very good. Birdie at one par at best at two. Certainly gave that a wrap. They’d given him this. Never do that. Trying to get in in position for his next shot. I wouldn’t give that to you, Alan. You’d be right not to give it to me. Well, you wouldn’t give it to me either, and then you’d be right as well. Nevertheless, in it goes for Maroy. Still little pokey one right down it. It’s an excellent start for Maroy. He’s on it. It was from the left, you know, just a little more than Rory thought. Alas, just the part still one under through three. It’s one of the great sights in sport. Full throttle with the driver from Maroy. Yeah. 184 ball speed. Just right of it. One would think you don’t want to overcook it, Rory. But a wonderful opportunity to make himself a three. He started a long way right. How much shape has he got on it? Big slinger. It’s okay. It’s a good shot there on the surface. Super judgment of the pace there for Mroy. Little unlucky where the second ended in all fairness. I think the crowd might have wled that one in. It drops nonetheless. Two-part birdie at the fourth for Rory Mroy. His second of the day. Just correct yourself and say 90 before Paul jumps all over the game. [Music] Try and aim way right and turn the toe in. Sling it from right to left. That’s Alam Marco Simone stuff down there. He was practicing this shot on Tuesday when I walked around with him. So to that pin position. Yes. And the amount of spin he generated was insane. I couldn’t believe he turned it that much from right to left out of the rough. I think he’s impressed himself there. She know that looked so easy, didn’t it? You ref you referenced that shot from the RDER Cup two years ago. What a pitch that was on the 17th. That was equally as good. He played one just like that David How on the 17th. I remember at the Ryder Cup in Roma a couple of years back [Music] at it. Can’t do much better than that. Need a bit of luck to find a hole in one. a thriller for the crowd that have come to follow him. Hit the putt he wanted. I think if you heard bad language, we apologize. Rare for Maroy as well. So frustrations building. It was a good putt. It didn’t go the way he saw it. and he will have heard the cheers from up ahead. No wind. He might be tempted with the driver. Obviously, I can’t get back to this tea. He’s got the threewood. Yeah, just to turn it from right to left a little. He likes to hug the corner as well down that left wing. [Applause] That’s wonderful. That’s Miles down there. It’s only a flick of a lob wedge from now. self forward. So, a little dead armor, a little abbreviated follow through and just get this thing to stick. Yeah, I thought that was going to happen. I can see little bit of an edge developing in Rory’s focus. We saw his reaction on the previous screen which as you say David was unlike him and I think the intensity level has ramped up a little bit which is a good thing with pace. Yeah, that’s from Maroy there. The perfectly played hole 205 that equates to a six iron setting up for a soft right to left draw to access this flag position. In fact, it’s a whopping seven. Excellent. That’s excellent. That’s a real quality shot there from Maroy. He’s involved and you go, “Oh, it’s not me.” And I understand the officials cannot watch who is the culprits. Well, it’s obviously the guys that are having more hits. So, you know, sense must prevail here and they’re lurking the officials. Rory Maroy is not a slow golfer. He’s a good one. And that’ll speed things up. Yeah. Well, you take less hits, you’re not going to take as long, eh, Ally. And it goes back to back birdies for Mroy. I see him in there all the time. Go. It’s a tall tail that he’s spinning there, Mr. Riley. Tough shot this. It really is. Even though there isn’t any wind, it isn’t for the faint-hearted. [Music] Oh my god. Well, he was trying to hit a a big high fade. You could see actually from the camera angle behind the ball took off a long way right of where he was aiming. He’s got wonderful feel. He’ll need to with the flag tuck tucked tight to the front right. But it’s a fiddly shot this. Absolutely sublime. He’s the master of it. Far for Maroy despite hanging it hitting it in the water. No damage done. Go, go, go, go. Well, he kind of scared us, but there was no need. It’s center cut. Just 151 yards. Usually, you’d think he’d hit a wedge, but he’s worried about spinning it down into the water. So, this is just a nudge. Just a poke. Just a massage with a nine. trying to turn it from right to left. How brave is he? Pretty brave. Leave a couple with a good couple of foot of break for his birdie. Never anywhere else. Got to say I think this is one of the most accomplished days I’ve seen with him on the putter on the greens. Ruding it beautifully. Got some great pace. He’s not stressing over the perfect line. Seems nice and relaxed. And a wonderful touch there from Maroy. Just nice. He’s going to be left of that. You would suspect it’s he can carry these bunkers down the right side. You would think be fairly close to the edge of the fair. He didn’t seem too anxious with it. He might be able to muscle something down close to the green, maybe even on it. almost pitches in the hole for an albatross. There’s that for a 65. A collective shai shai sigh were you. Was it sigh and shove put together? Was that what you It looked a little right from the off. My words are about as good as Rory’s plus. Rory bogey free 66 here on Friday at the K club. Try and describe your day out there. Yeah, it was um yeah, it was good. I felt like I hit the ball pretty similarly to to yesterday. maybe give myself a few more chances with with the approach shots. Um, and yeah, as you said, didn’t didn’t make a bogey, which was nice. Um, couple of good par saves uh on the back nine and uh you know, finished well with you know, a couple of birdies in the last three holes. So, yeah, overall I’m really pleased with the day’s work and, you know, at least keeps me within touching distance going into the weekend. And obviously um you know the two boys are a little bit ahead of the rest of the pack but you know I feel like I’m close enough to you know to if I do have a good weekend to to chase them down. Paul McInley said on our commentary that from the 12th hole it looked like the in your intensity increased and you were really focused. Did that feel like for you out there too on that back n? Yeah a little bit. Um I made a good par I made a good putt for par on the 11th. Um and you know after not birdie in the 10th hole. Yeah, I felt like I was three under for the tournament at that point and felt like I was playing better than that. So, you know, the the birdie or the two birdies on uh 12 and I guess um sorry, 13 and 14. You know, I had a good shot into 12 and missed that putt. But um yeah, you know, I I got it going and I I hit some good shots coming in. Um, yeah. No, I I yeah, I guess in the middle of the the back nine, I felt like I should be a few shots better than I was and, you know, just sort of, you know, stayed patient, knuckled down, hit some good shots and and took advantage of them. You almost hold out on 18. You weren’t far away at all, were you? I couldn’t believe. I mean, I was hitting a 3/4 iron. I couldn’t believe how much I came back. Um, yeah, it looked like it nearly flew flew it into the hole, but yeah, no, it was nice to to make some really good iron swings on the way in. um you know the two par threes um you know even the the the nine iron into 17 that 8 iron into the last um so pleased with that and you know as I I the reason is because I’m hitting it on the fairway which I probably haven’t been doing as much over the last couple months so you know if I keep doing that give myself chances you know hopefully it’ll be a good weekend I know you had thousands out there following you today but how about that walk down 18 there at the end yeah amazing um the whole day you know just you know even walking to the range um for the warm up today. You know, it’s yeah, the support is absolutely incredible and u you know, looking forward to to plan in that atmosphere for the next the next couple days as well. Great round, Rory. Good luck tomorrow. Cheers. Thank you. [Music] [Music] To watch another DP World Tour video, click here. And to subscribe, click here.

  1. I guess it makes sense to stage the tournament near Dublin, but it's shame they aren't using one of the great courses in Ireland.

  2. You don't have to apologize to me for Rory's bad language…I say that word about 93 times during my average round. But I'm working on it — I wanna play Augusta in heaven 😊

  3. when he asked "how the FK does That go over there?" was he asking the children, the mothers and fathers or the elderly who came out to support the tournament? He needs to be taken aside and TOLD.

  4. The title starts with "Rory McIlroy", and you have incoming comments from illiterate people in this comment section…

Tell me you're triple vaxxed with booster shots, without telling me….

  5. Why are you two Muppets apologizing for Rory McIlroy‘s bad language? Do you think we’ve never heard the F word talk about nanny television?

  6. Nice coverage, the caption of the distances and ranks for different shots is really nice, hope you can include more stats and the putts distances too. Enjoying your coverage, good job. Thanks

  7. Good round, fun to watch.

    Ball striking getting excellent again.

    Go Rory!

  8. The guy who does the interviews at the end is absolutely brilliant. Asked the right questions, right tone. Quite refreshing.
