I’m on the International Course at my home base—Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate—showing you exactly how to hold a golf club so you can square the face, strike it solid, and create maximum power with minimum effort.
What you’ll learn in this lesson:
•How to start with the leading edge perfectly perpendicular so the face can return square.
•The left‑hand placement: in the fingers (not the palm) along the glove line, creating a “V” that points between your right neck and right shoulder.
•The right‑hand placement: fingers first, then set your left‑thumb into the lifeline of the trail hand; the trail‑hand “V” points up your right arm.
•Choosing your style—ten‑finger, interlock, or overlap—and why anatomy/comfort matters.
•Grip tension: “secure, not tight.” Spread the fingers slightly for control without strangling the handle.
•The big grip mistakes that leave the face open (top hand in the palm, etc.) and a quick set‑up shortcut: set the leading edge, let your arm hang, wrap the fingers, then repeat with the top hand.

I’m here on the seventh hole of the international course at my home Omni Orlando
Resort at champions gate. And often I see guests of the resort and even my clients doing one thing,
holding the club incorrectly. And that’s what this video is all about. How to hold the golf club you
the only connection you have to the golf club is how you hold it, and it’s important for you to be
able to hold it in a manner where you can square the club face and strike the ball with maximum
maximum power and minimum effort. And where that starts is with the leading edge. If we were to
put the leading edge out like this, you can see that it’s perpendicular to the ground. It’s got
it your grip process has got to start with that leading edge being in the correct position. So
you can then place the club in your fingers. And you can see there’s a line in my glove, and
I’m trying to make sure that the grip fits nicely on the finger. Side of that line, I’m going to
close my fingers, and then close my hand, and what you’ll see is there’s a V formed by your thumb and
forefinger that’s pointing somewhere between the right side of your neck and your right shoulder.
And if I do this correctly, I’m gonna be able to see my forefinger knuckle, where that x is, and
sometimes, based on who you are in your anatomy, that middle finger knuckle. Now let’s work on
the right hand, the top hand, if all you did was similarly, put the shaft in the fingers and run
the fingers down, and then allow the top hand, thumb, the left thumb for me to put. It be put
in the lifeline crease as I close my fingers, and then I close my hands, I’m now having the
club totally in my fingers. And you can see the V of the right hand points straight up the right
arm. Now you have a decision to make. Do you tend finger grip? Which some beginners do, who lack
the upper body strength to hold on to the club you can interlock. People like myself with shorter,
rounder fingers, more comfortable to interlock, and people with slender, longer fingers will tend
to overlap. Now here’s one of the keys most people forget about, and that’s grip tension. The tenser
you hold onto this grip, the more it’s in your palm, and the more tense you are, the less likely
you’re going to hit it far, and the more likely you’re going to slice across the golf ball. You
can learn how to not slice across the golf ball if you subscribe to my channel by clicking the
logo and ring the bell. You’ll get notified every time there’s new material, but more importantly,
there’s already material on the channel about how not to slice the golf ball. So once you have
this grip in your hands, the idea here is to hold it firm enough that if someone were to pull
this out of my hands here, they’d have a very difficult time. My fingers are a little bit more
spread. It’s about security, not tightness. Some of the mistakes that most people make is this,
top hand gets into the palm and now it’s in a weak position. It’ll leave the face open. There’s
lots of different mistakes as listed beside me. If one of these mistakes are yours, this process
will do you good. One last way of doing it. Can you place the leading edge perpendicular with
your feet, allow your arm to hang, and there’s the fingers around the club, and I take it out
front and just repeat the top hand again, how to hold the golf club a very important subject,
a well asked question from all my clients, probably a question you’re always asking yourself.
I hope this video and all the other videos on the channel are helping you. If you got a question
about how to hold a golf club correctly, or anything else golf wise, leave it below. I’ll
get to as many questions and comments as I can, as quickly as I can, and I want to thank you
for viewing this video and all the others on the channel. All the videos we produce are all about
you and you improving your golf skills. You Oh.
