In a thrilling turn of events, Dean Burmester clitched the LIIV Golf Chicago title in a three-way playoff, edging out John Ram and Jose Ballister with a 6-foot birdie putt. Burmester, who had a rocky start, losing a two-shot lead with three consecutive bogeies, managed to rally back with an even pass 71 to finish on nine under 204. The South African regained the lead with a birdie on the 16th only to have Rahm and Ballister force a playoff with their own birdies on the 18th. However, both Rahm and Ballister missed their birdie chances from the 12t range on the 18th in the playoff, paving the way for Burmese’s victory. This marks Burmese’s second LIV golf win, earning him a cool $4 million. His first win was in Miami last year. But here’s where it gets even more exciting. There was also a team playoff with Burmese’s stinger team clinching the team title over to talk. Walkin Neman who tied for 17th remains ahead of Ram in the individual point standing. Interestingly, Neman has never finished in the top 10 in live golf except for his seven victories. And this is the part most people miss, the nuances of the game and the player strategies that lead to these nailbiting finishes. What do you think about Burmese’s comeback? Was it pure luck or a result of strategic play? Let’s discuss in the comments.
