The intersection of golf and culture.

Behind every drained putt or hosel rocket into the stands is a human being with complex emotions—among them, an insatiable appetite for golf. That’s what we’re after. Golf’s humanity is what makes it so special to us. There have never been more reasons to love this game, and we’re endeavoring to explore them all.

What year was it? 2001. I was trying to win the I guess what I thought was a grand slam. Win for all four majors at once. Hold all four majors at once. And I I got to 13 on Sunday. I’m playing with Phil Mickelson, you know, the winner of this year. And Phil Phil and I were I just made bogey on 12th. I had a two shot lead annihilates his driver. this a high cut right around the corner in 13. I’m thinking I got to bring out this little hook threewood I’ve been practicing. So I get one of these nice sweeping hook 3wood just like that right around the corner. Okay. And it just so happened that I kind of out drove him. He had, you know, he had about a uh four iron in the green and I had six iron in the green. Well, 14 is the same thing. So, right to left hole just like that. And he had another perfect driver. We both made birdie. So, he still has the honor on the two. He has another perfect driver. So, I said, “Well, it worked on the last hole. I hope it works here.” So, I hit the same exact shot. Just like that. Threw it right around the corner again. and we’re walking off the tea together. You know, Phil and I haven’t said a word to each other all day. We’re both, you know, we’re both in our own world focusing trying to win, you know, a major championship. And, you know, we’re on the final pairing. So, I mean, this this is pretty intense. So, I’m walking my head down. He kind of comes up next to me and we’ve kind of done that all day. We may walk next to each other, not say anything cuz we’re both in our own little worlds. They said, “Do you normally hit your three-wood that far?” I said, “No, I usually hit a little bit further.” I just kept right on walking. It was just a If people don’t know me, that is just a typical answer from just a smart alec like myself. So needless to say, his three was pretty

  1. Look at the 3 wood at that time. I’m assuming it’s 2004. They had current day pros try to hit those clubs and they had a real rough time with it. You had to be seriously accurate with the club face.

  2. Oh man if only he didn’t roll over in that Genesis suv we would be witnessing even more of this dammit he just won the ‘19 masters too

  3. He cheated on his wife, kids, mother, sponsors and fans by slamming 13 girls thinking he was something special. He's still paying his Karmic debt today Dumbass

  4. I vividly remember that 13th hole he’s talking about. Tiger hit it over the green on 12 and look so puzzled by it and then Phil hit the most perfect fade over the corner on 13 and Tiger outdrove him with an even more perfect shot by about 20-30 yards. Just two legends dueling it out on the best course on earth. Miss those days.

  5. Actually on 13 TW outdrive Phil by about 20 yards, Phil had 200 to green to TW's 180. impressive 3 wood but Phil hit a high fade and he hit a draw 3 wood that was the difference. But on 14 Phil actually outdrive TW by about 20 yards.
