What would you risk for your first PGA dur win? For Cameron Young, the answer was simple. Everything. Starting with the one piece of gear pros rarely gamble on. At the Windham Championship, Young showed up with a ball he’d never used in competition, a Prov1X prototype. One week later, he walked away with his first PJ victory by six shots. And it all started with a bold move in a quiet test session. Titles R&D team crafts experimental golf balls known as CPOS or custom performance options based heavily on tour feedback. You’ve heard of left dot and left dash. These are the secret labs behind them and often the proving grounds for what eventually becomes the next prov or V1X. During a recent session at Titles performance center at Manchester Lane, Young worked with 40 Pitts, Title’s director of tour research and validation to test an early version of a new V1X prototype. Heading into Windom Week, there was no guarantees Young would even put the ball in play. But while warming up, Curiosity took over. He has to hit a few shots on the range and then a few more. Of course, he started his practice around alternating between his longtime gamer, the V1 left dot, and the prototype. But by the second hole, only the prototype remained. And then came the shot on a long par three, playing between 184 and 225 yards during the tournament week. It was normally a five iron for Young, but he pulled a six just to see. He then hits this sixiron with the prototype. Absolutely dead the flag. Pit said it lands right next to the pin and ends up just past it. His response remarkable. He couldn’t believe that he got that club there. From that moment on, there was no doubt. The V1X prototype stayed in the bag and delivered. One week, one switch, one six shot win. As for what’s inside the ball, Titles hasn’t revealed any specifics yet, but Yon did offer a few hints after the Triumph. Something we’ve worked on over the last 9 10 months. You know, it it’s very very similar to what I was playing before. Uh it’s just just a tiny bit different. It’s a like you said, a new Prov1X prototype and I think it definitely contributed to some of the the good play this week. So, I’m excited about the next few weeks. Our best guess, Young’s ball is a more dialed in, lower spinning version of left dot. Will it make it to retail shelves as a limited run? That’s at the titles. But if Cameron Young’s breakout win is any clue, the future of the Prov1X might already be here.

  1. If you look back, you’ll find Justin Thomas saying words (during the USGA ball rollback debates) to the effect that the public enjoys playing the same equipment the pros play. Truly laughable in light of the prototypes the pros get to play that we don’t.
