One of the biggest bunker mistakes we see as coaches is entering the sand too early. This simple line drill gives you instant feedback and helps you train a much closer, more consistent entry that helps you escape the bunker with ease.

This is one of my favorite drills to help you train a great entry point out of the bunkers. Draw a line in and imagine that the ball is 2 in ahead of that line. Work your way up this line with your focus to try and hit the front edge of the line. This is really going to help you create that consistent contact within the bunkers. That one was a little bit late, but these next two were pretty good just on the front edge of the line. And if you do this and train this, I guarantee you you will be a better bunker player.

  1. I was always taught a dime behind the ball so (as an amateur) every single time I am in the bunker… I make a faint line behind it where I want to enter, nice steep back swing and smooth follow through and I’ve never felt more comfortable in bunkers. Albeit… weather sand is hard, compact, wet or any other factors… will determine how far the shot will go, you have to know your own shots and distances. Great drill if you wanna get better from bunkers! (OH… best advice I ever GOT from a bunker… “use your bounce” and at 20 I didn’t even know what “bounce” on a wedge was and just let it glide through like your swinging with your right hand and rolling/releasing the club underneath it. Helped me learn to stop “scooping” the ball out and releasing with the right tension.

  2. Thats exactly same as practicing striking any golf ball and any shot, instead of trying to get your body in all the positions that are taught, that never work because the brain is concentrating on other things instead of doing what we all have evolved to and possess, thats a golf swing…
