Keegan Bradley has officially confirmed that he will not select himself to play in next month’s RDER Cup. An unselfish move that drew praise from none other than Phil Mickelson. On Wednesday, Bradley finalized his 12man team USA roster at PGA of America headquarters in Frisco, Texas, announcing his six captain’s picks. Justin Thomas, Color Moriawa, Patrick Kentlay, Ben Griffin, Sam Burns, and Cameron Young. Many expected the 39year-old to make history by naming himself as a playing captain, a role last carried out by the legendary Arnold Palmer in 1963. Bradley even admitted he wished he could have called Palmer for advice before making his final call. But instead of following that path, Bradley chose to step aside as a player, focusing solely on his captaincy duties. The decision impressed Mikkelson, who took to X, formerly Twitter, to applaud his longtime friend. Keegan did a great job today and was as classy as the King. Mikkelson wrote, “He’s leading by example and is showing why he’s a great choice to lead this team.” When asked why he didn’t pick himself despite being one of the most informed players on the PGA Tour this season, Bradley explained that his choice had been made weeks ago. The decision was made a while ago that I was not playing. Bradley said, “The last 48 hours we had the team set. This was a really tough decision. There was a point this year where I was playing great, but all these guys stepped up in a major way and played their way onto this team. That is something I’m really proud of and something that I really wanted.” The American skipper admitted it was painful to step aside, but ultimately stood by his call. It was an extremely difficult decision and one that I’m really happy with. I’m really happy with these six players and I’m glad it’s over.
