I Bought The World’s BEST BUDGET Hybrid & It Shocked Me!

A couple of days ago, my wife took me shopping, and I hate shopping. But while she was shopping for whatever women go shopping for, I went to Sports Direct, and I bought the cheapest brand new hybrid money can buy in 2025. So, how much do you think this costs? It’s brand new. It’s Slazzinger, which used to be one of the biggest names in golf. But how much How much do you think it costs, Bob? 30 quid. £14.99. That’s £14.99. It’s a steel shaft club. It’s got a brand new grip on it. Obviously, because it’s brand new and it’s actually got like a little bit kind of shape in there, which some of the bigger brands might have something to say about that because that is I mean it’s just really really good, isn’t it? It’s a bit of a copy of the V Steel Hybrid. But the face looks really cheap. That’s one of the things which I’ll say doesn’t look amazing, does it? I do love the look of it on top. I think the shape looks absolutely fantastic. It’s a lovely black sleek finish. We’ve got that Slazzinger logo in the middle. And I like reviewing things like this because even secondhand I don’t think you’re getting much for 15 quid. Like 14 pound you’re not getting two pints for 15 quid some places. We were in London last week, weren’t we? It’s a Slazzinger V300. What’s it called? You even got SL on the toe there. So your mates know that you’re playing a Slazzinger, which you probably don’t want them to know, but um yeah, we’re going to talk numbers today. Uh, and in a separate video, I’m going to compare this to a 200lb hybrid. Exactly the same loft and exactly the same length. Is there going to be a big difference? But first of all, I want to see if it’s any good out here on the course. It shocked me inside. And you’ll get to see that. But look at that. Like that’s not a good strike. That’s a horrible healy strike. It’s running down the center line of this fairway. And I think from a forgiveness standpoint, I can’t quite believe how well that’s just done because a lot of the big brands will try and basically upsell us on elements of forgiveness, on consistency, on flexing of the face, on carbon fiber, on twist face, on lots of different AI integrations. This was just next to the tennis rackets and the socks. It honestly it was and there weren’t there weren’t many of them left. So, they’re obviously selling them. And what I really like about this is it keeps golf available for people. People who don’t necessarily want to go and buy Titalist, Callaway, Tailor Made, Mizuno. You can still go and buy clubs. You can still go and play your golf. So, let’s try a good one and see how much we lost on that bad hit. There we go. So, you can see that’s obviously a lot higher. Is it going to go much further down that fairway? It’s gone exactly the same distance, has it? a few yards further, but they’re bang next to each other. So, when the big brands try and sell us on consistency and forgiveness, are we being ripped off? And that’s a question which I’ve started to ask more and more on this channel. Are we being ripped off because of marketing, because of the world’s best players taking millions and millions of pounds to help sell golf clubs? When little old Slazzinger and Slazzinger’s had a resurgence because there’s a certain sport now which is probably one of the most played sports in the UK, paddle. And Slazzinger have had a resurgence because of that. So maybe they could reinject some of that money into this game of golf that they were once so famous for. Did Who used to use Slesinger? It was um Sebie, wasn’t it? Sebie used to use Slazzinger. And when I bought this, I bought a driver, a 3-wood, and a hybrid for like 50 quid all in. I really hit that one hard. That’s fading back nice. And the first thing I’ll say is this isn’t like this isn’t the world’s easiest T-shot. And we’ve got three golf balls bang next to each other. $14.99, Bob. 14.99. So consistency wise, well, we showed you off the tea. We zoomed in. That’s where we are. And for £15, we’ve got what we say we have here, Bob? We got 200 yards in, haven’t we? So, let’s just knock these together. And I think the thing here is obviously if I was to hit a more expensive hybrid off this tea, it might go a little bit further. It can’t be any more consistent. It’s impossible. So now we have that 200 yards in. We’re in the fairway. I’d hit them from the roof, but to be honest, I’ve hit the fairway three times in a row. So I’m going to stick with it. It’s already looking a little bit That looks like more than three shots old, doesn’t it? But for 15 quid, I’m not really complaining too much. Flags over on the left. So, I’m not sure if we’ve got enough club. We’ll try. You see, it’s that’s that same strike I had on the first one. And I tell you what, it’s just peeling off, but I think it’s over the bunker. So, it’s on the green. To be honest, I can put that down to my golf swing because that wasn’t a very good strike. So, consistency wise, it’s actually done. Okay, I think if we put a better swing on that, like those other two, like this one, that could be really good. Look at that, Bob. That’s probably took a nice bounce. That should be good. And we’ve got a nice turf interaction there, which I think for a hybrid, you generally want from the deck, don’t you? You want from the fairway. We’ve got a bit of a passenger on the face. But realistically here, the big things about the price. I was impressed with the driver. The driver cost like 25 pound or 24.99. Obviously, it’s not performing as well as a 600 tailor made driver, but that’s okay. I don’t think it needs to. I don’t think it’s necessarily a, oh well, you’re obviously going to buy the 600 pound driver because it performs better. Like, no. If you if you don’t I’m not even going to say if you can’t afford it cuz that’s a total wrong term to use. If you don’t want to spend that amount of money, but you want something brand new and you don’t necessarily want to go in the secondhand market, of which again, what are you getting for 30 quid? Like realistically, if they put a graphite shaft in this, it probably would get more club head speed and more ball speed. But there’s a market out there for people who just want a nice steel shaft, a bit of a head that’s not really much to do, and hit shots like we’ve just hit there. Because this almost 400 yard par4 is now turning into a par4 which to be honest we’re attacking quite nicely and that could that could be really close couldn’t it guys let’s jump inside let’s see how this hybrid really does perform for the money is it exceptional value or is it cheap let’s find out let’s see so this should have been $29.99 brand new obviously I I don’t think that’s ever I don’t think anyone’s ever paid $29 $29.99 for that deal. Not really. But the head shape’s quite nice. And I’ll tell you what, 4,01 spin. Is that going to carry over 200 yards? Yes, it is. 217 total. And we’re on the fairway with the first shot with the Slazzinger. Can you see that, Bob? You see that over there? Do you know what that is? It’s a cat amongst the pigeons. Unbelievable stuff. Unbelievable stuff. Potentially I don’t like I don’t mind that ball flight. That’s that one where I kind of catch it high out the face. But we did that a couple of times with the Wilson, didn’t we? It’s still marching up there to 190 yards. This feels incredibly heavy, which it’s always going to do. Obviously, it’s a steel shaft, but I actually feel like I can load it quite nicely. It’s not the fact it’s steel that’s the problem. It’s probably just a kind of cheaper material steel. Certainly, I’d say was struggling to maintain that dynamic loft on this one as opposed to the Wilson. I think the Wilson I can flight it out there a little bit better than I would want to. I think the swing’s looking good. The spin rate’s good. All the speeds are good. Let’s go a couple of normal ones and then try and maybe flight them down. Head shapewise. Oh, there we go. That was really nice. Head shape wise, I like it. I think it looks really really nice and modern, I suppose you could say, in a in a sense. And they actually look quite similar on the bottom, don’t they? A little bit. They’re both trying to get that little bit of kind of I always call it V steel. I can’t really say that cuz they’re not tailor made clubs, but they’re trying, aren’t they? Obviously, there’s no power 360 face in this. There’s no no adjustability on either of them, actually. So, there’s not can’t really moan about that. The one thing I’ll say is they are kind of kicking up, aren’t they? Like I do feel like the numbers are okay. I think to be honest, for the price, I mean, you think you could buy 14 of these, I think. Not that you’d want them, but you could buy a full set of these for just that one. Wilson. Can we flight it down? That’s me trying to flight it down. The spin’s dropped nicely. It’s a lower spin actually than we had with the Wilson. Just going a little bit left. Again, it’s over 200. There probably probably is a kind of 10 to 20 yard difference on those shots if we had a look, isn’t there? Because the Wilson really was kind of getting out there a little bit hotter. But again, for the price and for maybe slower swing speeds, are you really going to see a big difference? Cuz I’ve hit that really well. And that’s going to pitch about 205.

  1. Just getting back into golf after 10 or more years so building up a bag again. Bought the 19,22 and 25 degrees in these hybrids and 56, 60 and 64 wedges which are also really decent, all slazeger and from sports direct £90 for all 6 clubs, dont know how long they will last but absolute bargin to get back into the sport and they do perform.

  2. Straight and consistent, perfect for the beginner. Plus when it needs regripping it's cheaper to buy a new club😁

  3. I always said gear is over rated. Your swing is more important. If you have a bad swing it doesnt matter how expensive your equipment is, you still will hit the ball bad. For a beginner, score high or a budget player, you can play used clubs, Temu or clubs like this. Invest in lessons is the most bang for the buck.

  4. I put old Taylor Made hybrids in my bag six months ago to replace my long irons. They were all used off of Ebay and Play it Again Sports, averaged $40 a club. They are so much r=easier to hit than irons, and so much more consistent.

  5. The user means far more than the gear, my favorite playing partner at our local course played against all the guys last year and their new $3000 bags full of new gear using a 13 year old R1 TaylorMade driver and older woods, irons she uses are older Calloway's and her wedges are a mixed bag but all at least 10 years old. She won the club championship!!!!

  6. My grandson's lady wanted to start playing golf with him so I bought her a complete starter set of clubs, bag etc and paid less for the entire set of Hogan clubs than any major company wants for just a driver now.

  7. In your opinion. How much ofthe difference between slazenger and Wilson was due to the shaft vs the club head?

  8. I still have me old Slazenger 308 beryllium putter. It does quite well as me Scotty Cameron…

  9. When your wife took you shopping a few days ago, she also transported you back in time judging by the lack of foliage on the trees. Impressive woman.

  10. Love this. Many nuggets of truth in this. Considering your comments on several of similar videos you've done, would be interesting to see a set vs set challenge. 1 set the cheapest brand new (like slazenger V300). Second set the absolute cheapest second hand set you can find (from glofclubsforcash or similar). No thought or deliberation: merely the cheapest clubs you can get

  11. Bravo James. Big brands rip off the public with overpriced clubs pushed by high paid pros. The newest crook is PXG whose stuff is really mediocre. I can easily afford brand name new stuff but am content and smart with used clubs of lesser names. They all work just great. these is one exception. My friends $500 Ping driver out hits my $50 Ben Hogan by about 5 yards. Big deal. I will use a stronger iron on my next shot and keep the $450 in my pocket, not Pings. Keep up the good work show us the used clubs that work just fine at reasonable prices.

  12. One thing I would like about a club like this is the silver face; for some reason I just don’t like looking down at a black face on a hybrid – perhaps not enough contrast between the face and the turf.

  13. I absolutely agree. Golf is all about marketing distance and forgiveness. Most of the distance comes from a better shaft, and lower lofts.

  14. Hi James, the have full sets to. Maybe do a 18 holes match with this set against Gaz 😜

  15. In my local sports direct you get a full set of Slazenger clubs plus a stand bag for £270, I haven’t seen any recent reviews on them but ones from 5/6 years ago said that was a good deal
