Hey everyone, Fox 11 sports director Ryan Wing here. The Packers just released their initial 53man roster. The key thing there though, initial, that doesn’t mean who’s on the roster right now will be on the roster when they take on the Lions in their season opener on September 7th. No huge surprises. Two of their big free agent acquisitions who they signed for one-year deals, veterans Mico Hardman, a wide receiver, and linebacker Isaiah Simmons. They were both cut. The one big surprise, Iola native, Christian Walsh, a linebacker. I think a lot of us thought he was going to make the team, especially when we heard that Simmons wasn’t going to make the team. Welch, though, cut. He’s released for now, at least. Same thing happened to him last year. We also thought Kalin King, the cornerback out of Penn State, a seventh round pick last year, was likely to make the team. He was cut. This year’s seventh round quarterback, Micah Robinson out of Tain, didn’t make the team. The biggest questions kind of surrounded around injured players. Christian Watson, we knew he was going to be on some sort of injured thing. He’s on the physically unable to perform list to his ACL at the end of last year. He’ll miss at least the first four games as two will Colin Oliver, the fifth round defensive lineman out of Oklahoma State. And then Marshon Lloyd, the running back, man, he’s had to deal with so many injuries. He is on injured reserve, but designated to return. He will also miss at least the first four games, as too will Jacob Monk. We’ll have you covered everywhere on our social sites as well as on air on Fox 11 online.
