A how-to fishing video for new anglers! Inexpensive bass fishing that anyone can do. Most suburban neighborhoods and golf courses have small ponds and lakes, most of which are home to large mouth bass, bream, and catfish. Just find one of these ponds near you, make sure fishing is allowed, and have at it! You’d be surprised to find out how big some of these suburban bass can get!
Location: Small Pond in a suburban neighborhood.
Environment: Small pond, max depth approx. 5 feet, very grassy.
Tackle: 6 lb mono filament fishing line on spinning reel, Bass Pro Shops “Kermy” Topwater Frog ($3-$7).
Tips:
-If you don’t catch a fish in the first 30 minutes, consider changing
lures, retrieval style, or location.
-Look for debris in the water (sunken log, grass, or lily pads), and fish around those. Bass often make this debris their home.
-If the pond has a lot of grass or lily pads, consider fishing a top water frog like the one shown in the video. This prevents you from getting tangled and losing a lure!
-Pay close attention to the bait you see in the pond (minnows, frogs, bugs, etc.). Whatever bait is present is what the bass is most likely feeding on, so you should try to pick a lure that resembles that bait.
Good luck and have fun!
