On Saturday August 16th the annual Castleisland Scratch Cup took place under beautiful weather conditions and just finished off a long day before the skies opened and the thunder rolled.

There were 105 entries across four grades which was impressive considering it was played on a Saturday.

The competitors came from several clubs throughout Kerry with a fair representation from those in Cork and Limerick.

“Preparations for these special days take weeks or months to get the course in its best playable state,” said club spokesman, John Fitzgerald.

“We’re always relying on the weather. There’s huge gratitude to the people who made this possible from our sponsors and the people who work on the government scheme and the members who give up their time to get it right,” he said.

The results of the competitions are as follows:

Senior men: 1st. Jamie Blake, Tralee; 2nd. Darragh Roche, Tralee and 3rd. Darren Goodall, Tralee; Final 18 Barry Morrisey, Crosshaven.

Intermediate Men: 1st. Mike Farrell, Bruff; 2nd. Reece Sugrue, Tralee and Final 18 John Fitzgerald, Castleisland.
