MISSISSAUGA, Canada (Kyodo) — Japanese golfer Mao Saigo finished third and compatriot Akie Iwai placed fourth at the CPKC Women’s Open won by local favorite Brooke Henderson of Canada on Sunday.

Saigo, winner of the year’s first major at the Chevron Championship in April, carded a 5-under-par 66 in the final round at Mississauga Golf and Country Club to finish 11 under, four strokes back from Henderson and three behind Australia’s Minjee Lee in second.

Starting the day in seventh place, the 23-year-old Saigo produced a bogey-free round with all five of her birdies coming between the 12th and 17th holes.

“I was able to play really well on the back nine,” Saigo said. “The Canadian fans have been so encouraging, and it’s been fun. I want to come back next year.”

Iwai, the leader after the first two rounds, shot 69 to finish 10 under for the tournament. It marked another strong performance following her first LPGA Tour victory at the Standard Portland Classic a week earlier.

“I had a great time playing,” said Iwai, whose twin sister Chisato is also an LPGA rookie this season. “Chisato and my team came to cheer for me over the last two days. It made me want to try harder.”

Minami Katsu was the next best among the Japanese contingent, tying for 10th at 6 under.
