I’ve been struggling with chunking and pushing the ball to the right. Please give me drills to help fix both.

Keep your back to the target longer and hit the ball on the inside. If target line is 12:00 hit the ball at 7:00. You are currently hitting it at 4-5:00

  2. Expensive_Section714

Line the ball in a straight line and swing towards the inside of the ball to practice not coming over the top. Had the exact same situation with my swing working on it now.

You are taking the club away a mile inside, this causes you to get stuck and you come over the top. If you run your swing in reverse and from impact to address and watch the path of the club head, this is closer to the path it should take. The link below is of Sung Hyun Park who has one of the best swings in golf. Use it as a template. Watch the club path and sequence of the swing.

    Good luck!

Your posture is why you are hitting bad shots. Work on that first

  5. Maleficent-Prompt656

Wayyyy over the top. Drop your hands down before rotation. Drop your hands in your pocket. Rotate through the ball.

If you want to stand up taller do it in your setup, not mid swing

  7. Gothewahs

Keep your lead arm straight on your backswing

  8. Weight is going towards the ball really bad on downswing. Try shifting weight to left heel instead as you start the downswing

  9. 18HolesToFreedom

That setup is so completely unrelated to that downswing. Spend a week on the range just working on a more traditional setup and tweaking from there.

Until your fundamentals are sound I wouldn’t work only anything else. That means keep working on posture and add in aim training. You come over the top not likely because of your aim.

Shorten the backswing. You’ll get more accuracy and control and won’t lose distance. You’ll hit more consistent shots.

So how come the video posted doesnt show you standing up taller?

  13. You are getting some crap comments here. As realistic posted said your back swing is way to inside. This forces you over the top because you have to re route your swing. You should feel like the club head is outside your hands on your initial back swing and try to swing so your left arm feels like it’s in your ear. It won’t be but it will bring your take away way more outside.

  14. Turbulent_Echidna423

how do you know standing up taller is an issue?

  15. TRStanley16

I don’t think posture is a huge issue here. Looks more like takeaway issue, hands running long at the top. Correcting those two things will help the over the top downswing. Good luck.

Stop rolling it inside and your head is moving way closer to the target line. You should try to have less knee flex at set up

What do you mean you’re already working on that? Just stand up taller. You’re in a bad setup position so squatted down. You can’t really say much about someone’s swing if their setup is that bad. Fix that and see what happens then work on other stuff.

  18. SmokinHotNot

Keep watching the top of your head relative to the tree line in the distance. Would not group this with standing taller. Your head is moving up/down too much.

  19. soundthealarm16

Sure. Keep working on getting taller. Honestly, though, that isn’t something you should have to work on. It’s just getting taller that address. Controlling the things that you can control should not be difficult. If it feels awkward to stand taller, so what. Stand taller.

Now, you asked for additional suggestions. Here you go…

You’re missing the concept of weight transfer. It’s obvious as you squat down, you are transferring weight from your right heel to your left toe. That’s the opposite of what you want. Lay a club down between your feet diagonally from your right toe to your left heel and practice hitting shots feeling yourself move that way. You should feel like you’re getting further from the golf ball not closer. There’s plenty data on this via the TPI YouTube channel.

Try to take your backswing such that arms are always in front of your chest. Right now you are too far inside on the backeswig and over the top in the downswing. Try to feel like you are swinging more with your arms in front of your chest for both backswing and downswing. This is just so you get the feeling of a more neutral take away and swing.

  21. mdsoccerdude

You’re chopping wood on the downswing. You need to shallow out your swing. Keep your trail elbow tucked to your body it will help with the over the top motion.

  22. PutridPineapple5538

Keep your lead arm as straight as possible during your back swing. Also no need to immediately rotate your club head at the start of your back swing. Doing this causes you to overcompensate the club head rotation back to square on the downswing.

  23. ntsmmns06

Apart from the obvious – get some lessons. Just think of your swing like a clock arm. It starts from the middle and pendulum swings back to 9pm then back down and thru to 3pm with a little more follow through. Start with the simple stuff. Don’t try to stripe the ball.

    Get lessons.

  24. WindigoMac

Your hips are continually moving toward the ball throughout the swing. That’s no good. Setup closer to the ball and drill the feeling of your trail hip gaining space in the backswing. Should help stave off the EE

  25. DeaconFrost613

You need to fix the backswng. It’s too long and getting way off plane / reaching.

Try to stop at 75-80% and focus more on turning and less on reaching up.
