I use braid on all my reels. It's much more sensitive
Braid with mon leader, best of both
That was a salmon? What kind?
That’s why you run a shock leader on it. About twice the length of your rod, and 10x the weight you’re throwing is a good rule of thumb. So if you’re using a 10 ft rod and throwing 5 oz, you’d want about 20 feet of 50 lb mono for shock leader. Makes a world of difference, especially if you’re throwing bait.
Mono has a little stretch to it? Just a little??
I've always loved Power Pro ever since it first came out. It's all i use now. From 12# for Snook, Redfish, Mackerel, Jacks upwards to 40# or so fish. Then, for our Tarpon, around the Tampa Bay area I use 60# on my big rod for fish on up to 175# or so. 🤷 I generally use live baits, freelined and with the lighter, thinner braid I can cast very light baits very far. The line just flies off the reels. 😊 Of course, no stretch, but my rods make up for that.
I bought 2 braid cheap and expensive, there really is difference but the cost isn't worth it in my opinion
Doesn’t even make sense to want stretch. That’s what the drag is for
Should use a 650 Alvey with 15lb mono.
Throw a leader or top shot
Exactly why I use braid lol. If i want give I’ll loosen my drag
I prefer braid
Where can you surf cast for salmon?
😂😂😂 direct contact with the fish no stretchy mono crap
Dirty old salmon good for bait
Braid cam cast further and you can feel when fish bite
?big fish is why I use braid? It also cuts water better, you dont get that vibration
use a shock leader with braid. I run 30lbs braid with either 40-50lbs mono/flouro depending what im targeting.
🙏😃😋
There’s applications for both and they’re commonly used together. For surf fishing like that I use braided mainline with a certain amount of monofilament “top shot”.
Depending on which gut I’m fishing. If it’s for sharks out past the last bar, it will have more mono on because I never want braid to drag across the sand bar. In scenarios where I’m not as worried about abrasion in the water I’ll use shorter mono on the end as a shock leader.
Adjust the drag reel if the line too rigid lorghhh 😂
he'll get use to it and won't go back. a lighter pole and a looser drag for starters
I never used braided because in Hawaii there’s rock’s everywhere and if u gets caught on one even without a fish your entire lead and leader is gone
I carry 2 reel spools. One with braid one with mono. It depends where & what im fishing for.
What bait did you use to catch that?
He doesn't like them too rigid. He prefers something a little softer that he can get his hand around. Maybe I missed something…
I have used braid for fresh water but not salt, I just find that if I dog a cast and my lure or bait is too heavy, the braid just snaps. It's 30lb test. I don't know if it's the bait caster I used but I never had problems on a spinner reel. A bird nest with braid is definitely worse than monofilament though
Nice salmon
Hard pass on the MONO for shore casting. Thanks, but no thanks.
Braid will lock into the spoll and cause a problem with a big fish, plus makes it hard to cast because of the lockup!
I like both ,For some things I use braid and other things I use mono . ✌️
Using braid bottom bouncing and being a rock ape, ive pulled the hooks out of fishes jaws too many times, still use braid still rip to hard, lifes good
I use braid fishing line with a ( double it’s strength ) 4-5m leader which enables me to cast twice as far with triple the lb’s pulling power I couldn’t cast out far enough to reach the ground I’m try to fish where the fish hold near a flat rock bottom if I was casting with 15lb or 20lb mono.
I use a mono leader with braid
Salmon?
I use a long leader with my braided line, about 6 times the rod length (mono fluorocarbon) that gives enough stretch. While the braid gives you a good cast and doesn’t ge affected but currents or wind as much as mono line.
Braid with a mono top shot for stretch…are you new? And that doesnt look like any salmon I've ever seen
I use both depends on where and what fish ing for. Chers and habe fun 😊
