POST FALLS — Lake City junior Trey Lambert, who missed last season due to a back injury, shot a 5-under-par 67 to earn boys medalist at The Highlands Invitational on Wednesday.
Coeur d’Alene sophomore Ella Wilson, who won the state 6A title as a freshman, was girls medalist with a 1-under 71, leading the Viking girls to the team title.
“The girls played awesome and they had a ton of fun out there,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said. “It was really great to get rolling today. They’ve been working so hard on their individual golf games over the summer, so it was super cool to see everyone back in Viking blue and playing so well. We work to keep the momentum rolling as we head down to Boise next week.”
Lake City claimed the boys team title with a 307, with Post Falls finishing second with a 328.
“The boys played great today,” Lake City boys coach Nik Bjurstrom said. “They have been spending a lot of time in the offseason to be ready for the season and it is already starting to show. As a new coach, I am excited to have a group who is dedicated to the game and I am ready to keep helping in any way possible to allow them to become the best they can be on and off the course. Having Trey back just puts an energy to the team that makes an impact more that just the score sheet. Overall, I am very excited for the season and couldn’t be more proud of the team as we begin the season.”
Coeur d’Alene competes in the Rocky Mountain Invitational next Thursday at Red Hawk Golf Course in Nampa, the site of the state 6A tournament in October.
Post Falls and Lakeland will compete in the Lake City Invitational next Thursday at Coeur d’Alene Golf Club.
