Chilliwack Golf Club hosting event on Oct. 20 and 21

The Canada West Golf Championships are coming to the Chilliwack Golf Club in October.

CW unveiled its 2025-26 championship sport host locations back in June and initially it was announced that Victoria’s Olympic View Golf Club would be hosting the championships, which run on Oct. 20 and 21.

However, it was revealed on Tuesday (Aug. 19) that CGC will now host the event. A reason for the change in venue was not shared.

The championships are set to welcome men’s and women’s athletes from nine schools as they compete both individually and as a team. The schools scheduled for the event include: the host UFV Cascades, the UBC Thunderbirds, Victoria Vikes, UBCO Heat, Manitoba Bisons, Lethbridge Pronghorns, Alberta Pandas and Golden Bears, Calgary Dinos and the Regina Cougars.

UFV last hosted the event in 2023, but Abbotsford’s Ledgeview Golf Club was the course used. Last year’s event was hosted by the Okanagan Golf Club in Kelowna and school winners were UBCO (men) and UBC (women’s). Individual titles were won by UBCO’s Ryan Gillis (men’s) and UBC’s Elizabeth Labbe (UBC).

The Cascades last won a team title in 2019 when the men’s team captured the top spot. UFV’s Daniel Campbell also won the men’s individual crown that year.

UFV’s men’s and women’s teams finished sixth and fifth respectively at the 2025 Canadian University/College Championship in June and this season marks the debut for new head coach Eli Greene. The Nanaimo product earned three medals as an athlete at the Canada West level and the CW championships will be his first big test as a head coach.

CGC was established in 1958 and the course features tree lined fairways, meandering creeks and mountain views. The club unveiled a new logo and re-brand on Aug. 15, which they said pays tribute to Chilliwack. The refresh included a new website and a new logo featuring a corn husk.

“Our club is surrounded by farms, cornfields, and a close-knit community of members who value tradition, camaraderie, and character, ” stated Ryan Turner, CGC general manager in a press release. “This new identity captures all of that. The corn husk is symbolic, memorable, and unmistakably Chilliwack.”

CGC is where the Cascades practice and has been the team’s home course for several years.
