COVENTRY Hearsall Golf Club player Arianna Virik won the Underrated Golf Tour to qualify for a tournament in the United States of America.
Virik shot a total of two-under-par to win the event at Fairmont St Andrews’ Kittocks Course.

The 15-year-old shot a first round 72 (-2) only to drop four shots on the front nine on day two.

However, the teenager recovered with a four-under back nine, which included an eagle, to win the event by two shots.

And the victory means Virik will play in the Curry Cup in the USA from September 10 to 12 at Liberty National Golf Club.

The top-28 boys and girls from the tour contest the Curry Cup.

Virik said: “I played badly to start with as I was three-over through four but I got to the back nine knowing there were lots of holes that I could birdie or eagle.

“I managed to eagle 15 and birdie 17 so I was just trying to keep it going and I was chilled out because whatever the outcome was, it was.

“The girls I played with were so good, everyone was fighting to win and this has given me a real confidence boost to know that I can do it, even if I am down.

“I’d like to thank my mum, dad, nan and sister for all supporting me and bringing me here, and my coach Alan for helping me throughout the whole year.

“I’m so excited to go to New York and I’m excited to see how my game stacks up and to experience an LPGA Tour course.”
