Wexford venue set to host Irish Mid-Amateur Golf Championship

A Wexford venue is set to host an upcoming Irish golf championship…

The Irish Mid-Amateur Men’s & Women’s Open Championship tees off at Rosslare Golf Links from 22–24 August, as 115 competitors take on the renowned Wexford links for 54 holes of stroke play.

The field includes several standout names, with defending Women’s champion Aideen Walsh (Lahinch) aiming to retain her title. She will be joined by Leinster, Connacht and Munster Over-18 Women’s Senior Amateur Open Champion Shannon Burke (Ballinrobe).

In the Men’s event, East of Ireland Champion David Howard (Fota Island) and Connacht Men’s Stroke Play runner-up David Reddan (Castleknock) are among the leading contenders.

Local interest is also strong, with eight Rosslare members in the line-up. JP Fitzgerald, Rhys Clarke, Gary Collins and Ian Lynch, as well as Mark Shanahan, Mark Mullen, Tony O’Leary and Mark Whelan, will be hoping that home advantage gives them the edge when play begins on Friday.

This year’s championship is especially significant for the host club, which celebrates its 120th anniversary in 2025.

Richard Kennedy, Chair of Marketing at Rosslare Golf Links, said the club is proud to welcome the championship to one of Ireland’s most historic links courses.

“Rosslare Golf Links are proud to have been chosen to host the prestigious Mid-Amateur Championship from 22–24 August 2025. The selection of our Championship Links course for this event is testament to the outstanding works carried out by our Greens Team and the major investment made in our course over the recent years,” he told Wexford Weekly.
