Matt Hamill is, officially at least, the only man to beat Jon Jones in history. But do you know his history?

Of Irish descent, Hamill was born with a disability that would stay with him for the rest of his life: total deafness.

But that didn’t stop him from living, much less playing sports. Stepson of a high school wrestling coach, he was introduced as a child and despite all the difficulties, he competed in the sport throughout his school years.

He moved to MMA in 2005, competing in TUF 3 the following year and within the UFC he beat names like Mark Muñoz, Tito Ortiz and Jon Jones himself, in what is the only defeat in the GOAT’s career.

In 2010, the film The Hammer was released, which tells the athlete’s entire story. Worth watching, huh?
