How to nominate and vote for The Palm Beach Post’s Athlete of the Week

The Post’s Athlete of the Week is back for the 2025-26 school year. Here’s a look at how to nominate athletes and vote in polls.

The Benjamin School girls golf team includes Kai Trump, granddaughter of President Donald Trump.Trump, a senior with an athletic scholarship to the University of Miami, reportedly has over $1 million in NIL deals.Head coach Janet Coles emphasizes the team aspect of golf and aims to build on last year’s district title win.Trump will compete with teammate Kaitlyn Hummers and Reese McMillan for the number one spot.

At the Benjamin School, having a famous name on the golf team is par for the course.

The boys’ team has Charlie Woods, son of icon Tiger Woods, and the girls’ team has Kai Trump, the eldest grandchild of President Donald Trump.

Not that Kai is treated any differently than her teammates, despite her surname, an accepted scholarship to the University of Miami and reportedly more than $1 million in NIL deals.

“Golf is an individual sport, but we’re very much a team here,” said Benjamin girls coach Janet Coles. “Kai will get a lot of attention, but she’s just one of the girls. The girls have known her for a while. She’s a wonderful girl and a very good teammate.”

Coles is in just her second year as Benjamin’s coach, but she’s had success in golf throughout her life. She was a standout at UCLA, won twice on the LPGA Tour and coached at Dartmouth.

Coles knows every stroke counts the same, despite the familiar surname and the fact Trump will have most of the cameras focused on her every move. In her first season, Coles led the Lady Buccaneers to a district title – played on one of Kai’s grandfather’s courses – advanced through regionals via a playoff and finished 10th at the state championship.

“We had some goals last year and that was really an awesome win at Trump International,” Coles said. “This year we will work very hard to reach the postseason.”

Trump will be the focus, but she’ll have to compete for the No. 1 spot with fellow senior Kaitlyn Hummers, who won the district individual title last year. Reese McMillan, a freshman, tied for second at districts and won the 41st Nicklaus Junior Championship this summer.

“I’m looking at the seniors for leadership, but the lineup will depend on how everybody is playing” Coles said. “We will keep them prepared. I want them to have fun, but also realize we are in a very competitive situation here at Benjamin.”
