Robert MacIntyre handled brutal pin positions, rowdy fans, and major pressure to post a gritty third-round performance at the BMW Championship. After a tense back-and-forth with the crowd on 14 and a huge birdie on 18, MacIntyre shares how he stayed composed, what fired him up, and why he’s built for this fight. One shot can be everything—and Bob knows it heading into Sunday with the lead.

All right, Bob, just kind of take us through the day. I’m sure big birdie there to kind of extend the lead at the last. Just kind of how the day went for you. Yeah, the day was tough. Um, as you would have seen, it was wasn’t the plain sailing of the first two days. Um, but yeah, I thought I managed managed it well. Missed it in the right spots. Couple of times I didn’t miss it in the right spots. Um, but yeah, it was steady. Hold some nice par putts. missed a couple of chances that I felt I could have got, but pins were absolutely brutal. Um, you want to be underneath the holes and where they cut the pins today, you just couldn’t get underneath them and you were you were standing there with 15 ft coming down a steep slope. Um, a lot of time, a lot of break. Like even the first hole, poor bunker shot to 15 ft and you’re left with I mean four on a end point, which is from 15 ft you’re aiming a good three 3 and 1/2 ft outside the hole from 15 ft. So yeah, there was there was massive slope, but um no, I thought I’d done a good job. Do you all relish being the spoiler? We saw that moment on 14, obviously crowds with Scotty being in the US and felt like you were ready to give it back to him. Yeah, I totally expected it. Um I totally expected to to be in this situation um today when I when I’m in this position. Um it’s going to be the exact same tomorrow. And yeah, I’ll give as good back as I get. So, um, look, I thought I played played great. There was obviously a couple of shouts. Um, but no, there’s plenty of security there that are hearing it and seeing it and yeah, I did see them talk to a few people. I don’t know if anyone was thrown out, but there was um, yeah, there was plenty of people to talk to. You you were pretty close on that birdie putt on on 17. I mean, did that affect your mentality going in 18 with a putt more than twice as long? Not at all. Um, I actually thought I had the one in 17. Um, exact what I’m saying there. Like you’re track one underneath the hole, but the pins four from the water. Um, you can’t get it underneath it. So, you just play play past it. Hit a beautiful um a beautiful five iron in there that I thought was a great chance. Um, hit a great thought it was in. just moved a lot more at the end. But no, nothing changes from shot to shot when it’s a tough golf course when you’re in this position. It’s just you got to be try and be as as as level as you can. Um but obviously 18 final hol day holding that puts a massive massive boost going into tomorrow. That one shot is one shot is everything out here. The escape on five, how big is that? Just kind of keeping the round going and not dropping another shot there to be able to get out of jail a little bit there. Yeah, it was massive. Every look, every save, every every shot’s a prisoner for me. Um, yeah, that that shot there is no more important than that one I’ve hit on 18. Any of the shots I’ve hit today. Um, I’ve played beautifully all week. So, it’s just about continuing that going into going into tomorrow. What do you hear from the Yeah, he was just here and he was um shouting I missed it. He’s pushed it um pushed it right in the middle of the hole, I guess. 100%. I mean, it can go two ways, but look, I grew up all my days amateur golf being the one on the outside looking in, face not fitting, really fighting fighting for it. And we always say in our in the team, um, it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of fighting the dog. And I grew up fighting to be in this position. Um, there was also that fan on four, too. So, it’s kind of starting early for you. Is that kind of something that you’re noticing throughout the round and you’re paying attention to or I mean, it started in the first te. It started in the first te. It probably started when I walked onto the range chat. It ain’t bothering me. It’s it’s there. As long as they don’t do it within As long as if they do it outside the shot, it’s fair game. But don’t do it within the shot that’s going to affect myself or or Scotty. How different was the course playing today compared to the last two days, especially after the rain. Do you feel it drying out? Get a little fire back in it. Yeah, it is. It’s just different. I mean, the slopes um slopes in the greens where the pins were is so severe. Um, it’s difficult to actually get a lot of pin positions on the greens because they’re so slloy and so quick. But yeah, there’s a bit more bite bite on the on the golf course today.

  1. Love that comment from Bob, about not being on the inside and "I grew up fighting"… Similar to Harrington, and he did alright.. keep her lit Bob 💪

  2. I love sport and in particular golf. Being a Scotsman and having such great sportsmen and women over the years I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever been as proud. Watching this man play and speak is a privilege ⛳️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 good luck bob 🍀💚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⛳️

  3. Great guy. He will be the gritty go to in the Ryder Cup.
I hope the crowds support their team with great spirit, but don’t spoil it. Remember whoever wins and whoever loses your sportsmanship will be judged and it reflects on your nation.
As the man said, not during the shot.

  6. The yanks need to support their man yes I agree but they go overboard and heckle the opposition which isn’t right they have always done it because they think they won golf they did it with Monty and also they threw beer at woosnam when winning the masters ffs
