In most sports leagues the best regular season team doesn’t end up the champion. Its all good

Patrick Cantlay: what he say fuck me for?

I mean, I don’t know about other PGA fans, but I don’t really give a shit about this. I appreciate the fact that it extends the season somewhat to keep it interesting in the late summer and fall. But I don’t wake up every day thinking about the FedEx cup. I am all over the major championships and whatever is interesting in between.
I am definitely more into the Ryder than I am FedEx.

I think they should go back to how it was prior to the staggered starting leaderboard. Top 5 in the standings going into the Tour Championship are guaranteed to win the FedEx Cup if they also win the tournament.

Scottie or Rory are possible winners of Player of the Year. The FedEx cup winner is something different. That’s how I look at it.

Nobody actually cares about this, they need to make a big change and go to match play or something

Wishing for an interesting player to come to the fore who is fun to watch. Most of these guys are so boring.

Would love if they just turned the final tournament into an elimination bracket where they did match play. Give exemptions for a few of the top players and then have it come down to the final round being that the final 2 have to play 2 matches that day to win.

As a certified Cantlay hater, this is pretty funny

Matchplay. Month long matches. Figure out the logistics. People don’t watch tournaments the way they used to. Individual matches are more intriguing. The top 24 are all very good names. It’s okay if a top guy loses. When a premier matchup happens, it will make up for the lesser matches. They can’t all be game 7s.

We have this same conversation all the time with NASCAR and their odd playoffs instead the total points leader winning, like every single other racing series.

I’m really enjoying the current fedex cup setup. We’ll get our match play fix with the Ryder cup, and they wouldn’t want to take all the piss out of the Ryder cup format by doing match play so close. Same for the presidents cup.

He makes a very good point at the end. It would look like the NASCAR championship standings and there would need to be some kind of elimination round (playoffs) to make a finals event entertaining.
Maybe they could do some kind of handicap too. A sixth-place player would get a six-stroke penalty to start the final 72 holes or something. They don’t even do that in the NHL (no byes).

America just refuses to accept someone winning a regular season championship or for any place besides first to matter. Literally 90% of golf fans stop caring after the Open anyways. Playoffs should just be double point events to make it possible for a Cinderella run. But if someone has an insane season like Scottie the last two years then he just kinda earned it on the course. If nothing else the last event should be match play but the players don’t want that so it won’t happen.

Rather we don’t have a season champion and rather debate it as fans and media based on the accomplishments throughout the year. I enjoy the fact that each tournament is basically a reset.
