[Music] Hi everyone, Abby here and welcome back to my channel for Tech Tuesday or welcome if you’re new. Now today I’m going to be reviewing the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 8. Now I’ve had this smartwatch for a couple of weeks now and I’m going to give you my honest opinion on it, talking about activity tracking, battery life, sleep tracking, and more. And just in case you guys are wondering, this video is not sponsored. I did buy the smartwatch myself and I’m just sharing my honest opinions with you today. So I have the Galaxy Watch a 40mm Bluetooth version here. I have this in the color white silver. So it does have a white colored band and then it has kind of a silver casing and bezel surrounding it here. and silver buttons and accents as well. And it does come out in another color as well, which you could see on screen. And the current price as of recording for the watch I have here is $4.99.99 Canadian and $3.49.99 American. Now, that’s just the regular price for this smartwatch here, but there are a bunch of promotions even though it’s a pretty new smartwatch. So, if you do buy direct from Samsung, you know, they have trade incentives and even buying from other retailers. I’ve seen like $50 off and stuff like that available. So, now I’m going to go over the major spec highlights about this smartwatch. You can get an idea of what it can do. So, the Galaxy Watch 8 here has a super AMOLED color display. It has a battery life up to 40 hours with the optional always on display turned off. It’s water resistant up to 5 ATM or 50 m, so you can take it in the pool, in the rain, in the snow, and more. It can track a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for you guys like running, walking, yoga, cycling, pilates, and more. And it does have built-in GPS. With this smartwatch, you can also view your smartphone notifications. You can reply to text messages. It has a built-in speaker and mic. It has voice assistant. It has Bluetooth calling on here so you can accept phone calls, take them, place them, all of that stuff. It has a huge amount of app capability if you’re looking to download external apps like WhatsApp and Spotify, for example. And it does have music functionality on here where you can stream music. It also has Samsung Pay on here so you can do contactless payments on the go. And I’ve gone ahead and listed some more spec highlights on screen for you guys. Now, the Galaxy Watch A here once again does have an AMOLED display. It is super vibrant, punchy, bold colors. It does get pretty bright as well. So, this is just a little past halfway, but it’s very bright as you guys could see. That is a good thing if you are using it outside a lot because it’s easy to read in bright lighting conditions outside as well as indoors in a variety of situations whether it’s in, you know, dark lighting or bright lighting. It is readable. The display here does have, you know, quite a bit of glare. But I do find that the adequate brightness here does combat that pretty well. My only caveat for that is when the brightness is pumped up, it’s going to reduce your battery life pretty quickly. And when it comes to the display, I always throw a screen protector on my smartwatch to just keep that display scratch-free. The Galaxy Watch 840 mm Bluetooth version here does not come with a sapphire lens. It just comes with, you know, a regular type of lens. So, I definitely would recommend putting a screen protector on here. If you guys are interested in this one, I’ll link it in the description below for you. I did pick it up from Amazon and it’s been really good so far. And if you guys are finding this video helpful so far, please go ahead and smash that like button for me. I’d really appreciate it. So, this is what it looks like on me. And I do have a 7 in wrist. So, something I really like about the Galaxy Watch is that it’s comfortable to wear. And despite the size here, it is very lightweight. Something I also wanted to point out is that although this side is smooth, the underside does have that kind of crimp design that we saw with the Galaxy Watch 7. And I find this actually makes it a bit more breathable underneath, which is kind of cool. You don’t really feel it, but it makes the band not really stick to your skin as much, so it doesn’t get as sweaty underneath there when you’re working out. So, I thought that was a pretty cool addition to see with this smartwatch. I’ve gone ahead and put the wrist sizes on screen for you. And right now, I’m wearing the small medium band. When it comes to the design of the smartwatch, while I like the color options, I think it’s really pretty having the white and silver here cuz it’s a combination I don’t really get. Um, I do find the smartwatch a bit too big. Now, it does have that kind of cushion design on it this year, which it’s circle in the middle, but the outside border is like a square with kind of circled off edges for me. I find that this adds extra bulk and it makes the smartwatch look bigger than it actually is. Takes a bit more real estate, more room up on my wrist. So, I am not a huge fan of that myself. I do prefer, honestly, going back to like the Galaxy Watch 6. I really liked the more slimmer design with the circular, you know, watch and smooth band, but that’s just me. I know a lot of you guys out there might really love this design. So, if you’re someone who has a quite small wrist and you don’t like big watches, I would not recommend this. If you are someone who does like bigger watches or if you think it looks great on me and maybe your wrist is the same size, a bit smaller, a bit bigger, then this might be a great option for you. Now, if you’re someone who once again you do like bigger options, Samsung does offer different sizes of the Galaxy Watch. I am wearing the 40 millimeter here. There’s a 44 millimeter Galaxy Watch 8. There’s the Galaxy Watch Classic coming in at 46. And then there’s Galaxy Watch Ultra, which I don’t remember the dimensions, but I’ll throw that on screen for you guys. But let me know what you guys think of the design. Like, are you liking the new cushion cut, you know, square circle design we got going on here? Do you think they should go full circle? Do you think they should go full square? Let me know in the comments below. Now, something else I did want to mention is that the band here is Samsung’s one push design. Now, I do find a little bit tricky to change the bands out. So, you just have to push down on this button to take the band off. It’s really hard to get them off. Like, you really have to dig your nail in there and then it pops out. And then getting it back in sometimes is easy, sometimes. Honestly, it takes me a few goes, but you just kind of have to push until you hear a click. But, I find it’s a bit finicky. Like I said, I honestly There we go, clicked in. So, I honestly prefer just the traditional quick release watch band with the pin. They’re so much easier to put in and swap out. If you’re someone who does like to swap out your bands like me, you might find an issue with it. Sometimes it can be a little timeconuming. So, when it comes to battery life with this smartwatch, it does have a coded battery life up to 40 hours. Now, for me, I haven’t been able to get it to last 40 hours. In order to get that, I really think that you’d have to be a very light user and you’d have to be someone who’s maybe just checking the time, make sure the brightness is low, maybe your Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, all that off, then I think you could get it maybe close to the 40hour mark. But if you’re like me and you’re going to use your smartwatch, you’re probably not going to get 40 hours of battery life. Now, with my usage, doing things like GPS walks, runs, using daily alarms, timers, looking at my health metrics, and more, I’ve gotten on average 19 to 19 and 12 hours of battery life with this watch. Now, in my experience, that’s a bit of an upgrade from the Galaxy Watch 7. I get about an extra hour to hour and a half or so, which is nice, but the battery life honestly could be better. it’s just, you know, not great cuz I have to charge a smartwatch every single day and I find that a bit of a hassle. But if you’re someone who is used to charging your smart watches every single day or if that’s something that really doesn’t bother you, then hey, that’s not an issue for you. It really depends on the type of user you are. And I will say those are my battery life results with the optional always on display turn off. Now, when I did turn that on, I got about 12 to 13 hours of battery life with this smartwatch. So, for me, it’s something I just keep off. I don’t really find it worth it. It really just drains the battery life a lot faster. All right, guys. Now, I’m going to talk about women’s health. So, for my men out there or anyone else who doesn’t want to see this, you can go ahead and use my timestamps in the description below to jump to my next section where I’m going to be talking about sleep tracking. So, on the Galaxy Watch here, you can get your women’s health data tracked. They have a cycle tracking app. It’s going to predict when your next period is. So, it’s nice to see that directly on the watch here because for some smart watches, you can only see that information in the app. In addition to that, it’s going to show you your predicted fertile window, predicted ovulation, and then you can log daily symptoms and your moods. So, I’m just going to show you guys all the stuff that you can log on here. Now, these are things that you can log every single day. You don’t have to be on your period. You can log them daily. On the phone, you’re basically going to see the same information there. I don’t really love the layout here myself. It’s just a little bit messy. You just kind of have a bunch of text, not even in alphabetical order, just kind of thrown around. So, I think that they should have done better, but you can track a good amount of information here. While usable, I do think that they should have put a bit more effort in. You know, they should have made it look a bit better, more organized, make it a bit more of a joy to use. So, on the Galaxy Watch 8 here, it tracks your sleep. And there is a sleep coach as well. Every day you’re going to see your sleep data. Now, one thing is you’re going to have to sync it to your phone to get the sleep data processed onto your smartwatch, but you guys can see my sleep from last night. Here’s a sleep score out of 100. They give you a message, and then it says the hours of sleep. Here you could see when I fell asleep, when I woke up, the actual sleep duration, sleep score factors, time asleep, deep sleep, REM sleep, restfulness, sleep latency, and then they have your sleep stages, any movement, and then here are sleep stages broken down another way. They do track your skin temperature fluctuations. So, that’s pretty interesting to see. They track your average heart rate during sleep, your respiration rate, and your sleep consistency. So, this is how many times you hit your sleep goal. For me, I believe my sleep goal is like 7 and 1/2 hours or something, and I’ve only hit it a few times, but they do track that. Now, after you sleep for seven nights, you do get a sleep animal assigned to you. And for me, I was assigned a penguin. Now, your sleep animal can change depending on your sleep activity over time, but for me, over the last couple weeks, I’ve gotten a penguin. for a penguin. They give you a little description of what a penguin means. I get enough sleep, but I tend to wake up often. And there’s a bunch of different things as well. So, I think lion is like kind of the best sleep tracking that you could get or the best animal. But pretty interesting to see the different kind of sleep animals that you can have. And once again, you can change depending on your sleep activity and how that’s going. You can switch between different types of animals as well. And on the app, you can see more detailed sleep data going on. And you guys see there’s a couple of days that I didn’t get sleep data. And this is because the smartwatch died while I was sleeping. That battery life, eh? But anyways, you can see a lot more information on the app. And I do think it’s kind of cool that for the sleep tracking, it looks so nice. Everything’s organized. I really wish the women’s health would look half as good. And you can set up a sleep coaching and sleep guidance and stuff like this. um kind of little things trying to help you sleep better. I think the sleep tracking on Samsung is definitely improved over, you know, how it was before. I will say that the sleep stages tend to be off, especially when it comes to time awake. Do think that is often too low and they kind of like puts them into light sleep. But the other things really good like the movement that’s pretty on par for me. I do think that this is spot on. The time I fell asleep, time I woke up and the sleep score and stuff like that I think are pretty good. So, I think it needs a more refinement when it comes to sleep stages, but overall, I think pretty decent sleep tracking. All right, guys. So, now I’m going to go over how to use this smartwatch here. Just the basics for you. You can either go ahead and press either of the buttons to wake up the display or you can tap the display or you can turn it towards your face and the screen will light up. So, once your display is on, you could swipe down and you’re going to see a little controls panel here. can do certain things like turn on and off the smartwatch. Turn up and down your brightness, volume, do not disturb. If you go into your settings here, you can modify other things like you can turn on and off the Bluetooth. You can modify your routines, turn on and off sound, vibration, and more. Now, if you want to go back, you can go ahead and swipe to the right, and you can also press the button down here. There are two buttons at the side. Now, if you want to see your apps that you have on here, you just swipe up from the home screen, and you can see all of your apps here. And if you don’t like this type of view with everything kind of all scattered, you can go ahead and you can change it to be like a list view. Eden, what are you doing? You can have it um be a list view like this instead. So when you’re ready, you can just click on any app and it will open up for you and you could start using it. Now, if you press the top button here, press and hold it, you’re going to talk to Bixby, which can help you with voice assistant things like setting alarms, texting people, telling you the weather, stuff like that. Now, if you go ahead and swipe to the right, you will see your health metrics, things like your sleep, antioxidant index, your breath rate, heart rate, cycle tracking, and more. If you do want to look at any of this stuff, you just click on it, and it opens up into a bigger view. And if you keep swiping to the right, you could see fitness and you know what other apps you have. This is the order I have mine in, but you could go ahead here and you can start a workout. They do have a running coach built in, which is pretty cool. It is in beta mode right now, but it’s a free virtual running coach, so it does adapt to your personal activity. And you can go ahead and add other tiles as well. Now, if you swipe left, you’re going to see your notifications from your smartphone. So, you can see I have some mail here. You can go ahead and depending on the, you know, if it’s like a text or an email or whatever, you can usually reply, delete, archive, and more. If you do click reply, it’s going to open that up on your phone for you to, you know, reply to it. So, here, that did open up on my phone that email here. If you swipe left, you’re going to see more notifications, and you can clear them all if you want to do that. To change your watch face, you just hold the button right here, and then you can swipe through and change it. And that is the basics of how to use this smartwatch here. It is pretty straightforward in my opinion. I do like that kind of every swipe and button press is intentional. I like that the smartwatch is like pretty smooth with the UI and the operation. It does go where I want it to go and it doesn’t lag. The Galaxy Watch here only works with Android phones. Works with Samsung phones, Google, other brands as well, but only Androids. It does not work with iPhones. So, something I did want to mention. All right, guys. Okay. So, I want to show you some watch faces on here. So, these are the ones that I have on here. You can go ahead and use your own photo. Here’s my cute little cat right there, but you can put your own photo of yourself, your pet, whatever, and make your own watch face as well. And you can go ahead and add even more. So, they do have a variety of analog and digital watch faces, and I think some of them look really great. Um, I think that’s a real advantage of Samsung. I feel like they honestly have the best looking watch faces out there. All right, guys. When it comes to activity tracking with this smartwatch here, I think it does a really great job. You can just pick an activity. So, you do get a countdown. And that’s something I saw that Apple does too when you start your exercise. So, that could be something that some of you like or dislike. But, if you swipe this way, you will see the ability to pause your workout. You can change some settings. You can stop it. Swipe this way. You can control your music if you’re listening to it at the same time. And then you can view all of your metrics here. So you can see your workout duration. You can see the actual time, the calories burned. So you’re going to see my current heart rate. And it’s going to say the average heart rate for the workout and the heart rate zone that you’re in. If you’re doing an outdoor activity like a walk or running, it’ll also show you your pace. Now, when it comes to outdoor activities, if you’re doing a GPS workout, I find the GPS performance is great. In fact, this is the best GPS from a Samsung watch that I’ve used to date. It has not dropped on me once yet. been constant connection which is great because in previous versions there was occasional you know GPS connection dropage here it’s been really good so far and when I come home and check the route on my phone it’s very accurate there as well I get a pretty accurate heart rate steps calories burned all of that data there and I really like that it does track a large variety of activities so I’m just going to show you guys all the activities that I currently have on here and I really like that we get these icons so I think it’s great that there’s so many activities on this smartwatch that it can track. I think that there’s team activities like, you know, basketball, baseball. And honestly, I don’t think there’s missing anything that I can think of personally. Maybe you guys can think of something is missing, but I think it really covers all the basics here. So, it tracks your steps, your active minutes, your calories, your total distance walk, and it does track your floors climbed, which is something I personally really like to see. So, I think all of this stuff really accurate. Tracks your antioxidant index. This I find it to be off. And they do have breathing exercises that you can do if you want to do like relaxation breathing, meditation, stuff like that. When it comes to the blood pressure, it’s been pretty good, but you do have to calibrate it with a real blood pressure cuff and your first usage. So, that might be something that might be a bit inconvenient for some of you out there. If you don’t have one, you can go to like the grocery stores and use those ones they have there and just write down the reading to kind of calibrate it yourself. This vascular load is similar to V2 max on some other smart watches. Pretty accurate there. And the ECG, EKG, I do find pretty spot-on. It will show you your heart rate rhythm. Even the blood oxygen spot on there. Heart rate tracking I find to be very good. If you were to palpate your own heart rate, I honestly find it to be the exact same when I am checking it. And if you did want to track it continuously, you have an option to do that. But it does reduce your battery life a lot. So by default, it does track your heart rate, you know, every 10 minutes. That is what I have been using mostly for the smartwatch because that gives you the optimal battery life where you can get the most, you know, heart rate tracking. There’s also an option to just manually measure your heart rate whenever you want to and you can get high and low heart rate alerts. You can set the values for yourself as well. All right, guys. So, when it comes to Bluetooth calling does have to be connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth to use the calling functionality and it has to be within calling range. Now, something that I found is the calling range or the Bluetooth range is really great for me. I live in a house that has a couple different floors and if I have my phone upstairs, I could even get notifications if I’m in the basement or main floor and I can get calls on the main floor. Now, in my experience, the calls have been clear. I’ve been able to hear people. They’ve been able to hear me very clearly. There hasn’t been any type of weird distortion of my voice. The volume is quite adjustable as well to make it easy to hear. If you’re someone who you leave your phone around the house and you just want to have, you know, the ability to make calls from your watch, this could be a great option for you. So when it comes to the Galaxy Watch 8 here, I have noticed some cons with this smartwatch. So the first con for me is that do find it a bit big for my liking. I am hoping that for the next version they offer an even smaller version, something more compact. That would be amazing to see from Samsung. Now another con for me is the price increase. Now there has been a noticeable price increase from the Galaxy Watch 7 to the Galaxy Watch 8. So, that’s something that I personally don’t love to see because I don’t find that much new additions that really justify, you know, a big price bump up. Another con for me is the battery life. Now, I’m not someone who like to charge my smartwatch every single day. I find in 2025, having a smartwatch that lasts just 40 hours is really not great. I mean, I have smart watches that last over a week on a charge. So, this lasting me not even a full day is just not great in comparison. And I honestly find it a hassle to have to charge my smartwatch every single day. I think battery life is really Samsung’s greatest weakness because they do so much well. So, another con, which is a con that I’ve experienced with every Samsung smartwatch thus far, is that you need your phone for basically everything on this smartwatch. So if you really want to view metrics like sleep data, you want to see your antioxidant level, you want to see blood pressure, ECG, stuff like that, you have to have your smartphone connected to your smartwatch to get and view that data. So your smartphone’s going to process it and then send it back to your watch so you can see the stuff on the watch. So I would have preferred if my watch was just smart enough to do all that so I don’t have to really rely on my phone. And the last con for me is the antioxidant index. In my experience, I found it to be very off. Now, I am a vegetarian. I eat fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants on a daily basis. I literally just finished breakfast. I had um like fruit bowl, yogurt. I had a bunch of blueberries, strawberries, apples, bunch of things in there. I took a reading and it’s at 28, which is even lower than what it was before I even ate anything. So, I definitely think it’s off and it needs to be improved. And I’ve even tried this on some other people. And I’ve only ever seen it in the orange zone. I’ve never seen it in yellow or blue. So, I don’t know what’s going on here, but I definitely think this needs improvement. And it’s funny because I’ll take a reading and it will be like, “Eat more antioxidants.” For example, if you eat an apple, and I’m like, I literally just ate an apple and I didn’t, you know, record that data here. And all right guys, considering the price, the quality, the color, the performance, the comfort, the battery life, and everything like that, I would go ahead and give the Galaxy Watch 8 40mm Bluetooth version smartwatch here an 8.5 out of 10. Thanks for your review. I'm not sure if it's worth it for me to upgrade to the watch 8 yet. It seems like there aren't too many advantages over the Galaxy watch 7, unless you really like the squircle design! 😂

Great review as always, Abby! The antioxidant feature I don’t understand. Do you have to input everything you ate at every meal including snacks for it to come up with a score? Just curious.
I like the BP feature. That’s so smart.
Do you also need to buy a subscription data plan if you want email access and apps like WhatsApp?
When you do an activity like walking/running/cycling , can you customize data screens to keep track of data that’s most important to you while doing the activity?
The simplicity of the look of the white with the silver border is really attractive. It does look big though. Do you think you’ll keep the watch?
