Jordan Speed grabs the ball and walks off with purpose. Jordan Spith’s T-shot takes an unexpected hop right into the gallery and it just keeps rolling until it finally comes to rest on the solid card path. Spith walks over and you can see it on his face. This is trouble. He’s leading at 10 under par and every single shot is critical. He calls for a rules official pointing out that the cart path is an immovable obstruction. After a quick discussion, he’s granted a free drop. Speed carefully measures his spot, takes a breath, and then with the crowd holding its breath too, he launches a perfect flop shot, and it lands softly on the green. In a moment that could have gone very wrong, speed turns it into a highlight ring.
