Mac Meissner shares his thoughts after a scorching second round at the 2025 Wyndham Championship, recorded Friday, 1 August at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In this rapid-fire Friday Flash interview, the first-year PGA TOUR pro discusses:
• The simple swing thought that unlocked pinpoint irons
• Taking advantage of soft greens to rack up birdies
• The momentum-shifting eagle that ignited his back-nine charge
• His mindset going into Moving Day and the hunt for a maiden TOUR win

“I kept telling myself to commit—once the putts started falling, the round really took off,” Meissner says after signing for a seven-under 63 (verify official score).

Great. Okay. Um, can you talk a little bit about the scoring conditions today, this morning, a little different than you found yesterday? Absolutely. Yeah, the north wind came in last night, so it uh it kept the uh conditions a little bit cooler, which was really nice. It wasn’t as humid this morning and um wind was down and the greens were obviously in perfect shape. So, it was pretty getable out there in the morning before uh probably the first nine holes were very getable and then the wind kind of picked up in the early uh kind of around lunchtime. So, um very scorable. Greens were soft and uh there were some getable hole locations out there. I I was looking at your stats for this this year and everything. I noticed this is your fifth straight week playing, right? Yes, ma’am. Six. Sixth. Yes. Six straight week. Okay. Um, and last week you seemed to have a turnaround after five miss cuts. Can you talk a little bit about what you’ve been working on and what made that change? Absolutely. I, you know, I’m not really doing much different with the, uh, swing or putting, but um, have been really trying to focus more on just controlling what I can control. I’ve been feeling like this year I’ve been letting a lot of stuff bother me that probably shouldn’t or that I should be kind of wiping off my back. So, um, I’m trying to do a much better job mentally of, uh, making really committed golf swings and really focusing on the shot I’m trying to hit and just kind of kind of letting go of the results. So, along those same lines, is some guys might come in here in your position feeling pressured. Do you feel maybe more freedom or how do how do you look at this? Absolutely. I I was telling telling these guys over here that I’m kind of in a not not much to lose type scenario. I mean, if I happen to to win this week, then uh I’ll be able to play the playoffs, and that would be a dream. But, um if not, I’ll get to take some time off, some much needed time off and um recoup and get ready for the fall. So, um there’s obviously always pressure. Um always pressure to have good finishes to help my position a little bit more, but um I’m kind of in that position where I don’t really have much to lose at this point. So, um that’s kind of nice. Do you work with a sports psychologist? I do. Yes. Who? Uh, I work with a guy named Jared Templer. Yeah. Okay. We’ve we’ve been working together probably the last three and a half years. So, um, trying to do a better job of the simp uh, kind of controlling the simple things and letting go of score, results, points, all those things. And one random question, I know you want to play the playoffs, but if you didn’t play the playoffs and had some time off, how would you spend it? Um, I’ve actually got a couple things planned already. I’ll uh go see my family. My parents live down in San Antonio. I haven’t seen them in a month and a half. So, I’ll go down there and um go see my wife’s family as well. They’re in Fort Worth. And then um from there, we’ll just kind of try and relax and uh try and do some prep work and get ready for Napa. Great. Yeah. Uh following up, you’re in an eitheror situation. If you win, you’re in the playoffs. If you’re you don’t win, you go home, you get time off. Take me through the mentality of just where you are in that that that frame of reference right now because you were at minus 12 is looking good, but if not, then yeah, absolutely. I mean, I like I was saying earlier, I think, you know, coming into this week, I was trying to focus a lot less on how I was going to finish and try and build some momentum for the fall events. Um, and I think that that’s kind of freed me up a little bit to just go play golf and and see what happens. I’m not really in a situation where I’m trying to protect my position, so I can only really better it. So, um, yeah, that’s kind of that mentality I’ve got. It’s like, I not much to lose. Let’s go have some fun this weekend and you know whatever plays out is meant to be. Last question. Uh what about the conditions? You you alluded to that earlier, but when you see the scores, the red numbers go up and the double digit red numbers. Does that increase your aggression in your game to toward how you play the course? For sure. I think this is one of the uh few courses out here that we play that have such severe greens. So there are spots where you’re able to be aggressive to some of the pins with wedge shots, but a lot of the times being 10, 15t below the hole is a lot better than being six feet above the hole. So um yes, we’re trying to be aggressive, but we’re trying to be aggressive to certain the spot we’re trying to hit and and uh try and give ourselves the easiest putt we can. Awesome. Thank you.
