When it comes to Scottie Scheffler, consistency is the key element of his lifestyle. That ranges from his steady grip on the World No. 1 ranking to his relentless top-10 finishes and even includes his off-course habits.
The 29-year-old pro drove the same SUV for years, even after the odometer crossed six digits. He prefers the same two Chipotle locations near his Dallas home, only recently ditching one because fans kept recognizing him.
“There’s one right where I grew up, kind of near SMU’s campus,” Scheffler shared with Golf.com after his win at The Open. “If I was to go to that Chipotle and try to eat nowadays, it would be very difficult for me. There’s another one… nobody recognizes me ever.”
And he’s very particular about one piece of his golf equipment with his love for consistency leading Scheffler to an important $50 purchase before teeing off at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Thursday.

After carding 67 in Thursday’s opening round at TPC Southwind, the four-time major winner revealed that he recently bought a divot repair tool from eBay to replace one of golf’s most basic accessories.
These tools are typically handed out for free at first tees, but Scheffler had a very specific one in mind, which he lost after purchasing at the Cypress Point Club in California.
“It’s just the right size and it’s metal,” Scheffler shared during the post-round conference on Thursday. “They don’t really make those types of divot tools anymore, so I found one there and I’ve stuck with it.”
After losing the original, Scheffler revealed sourcing the replacement from the auction site eBay. He didn’t use an alias, either.
“Paid like 50 bucks for it,” he stated during the same conference. “Then I went back this year, and they (Cypress Point divot tools) were a little cheaper on-site, so I got a couple extras.”
The divot tool and ball marker aren’t the only things Scheffler sticks to. He follows the same beginner-style training grip and pre-tournament routine to date.
“It’s more checkpoints,” Scheffler stated as quoted by PGA Tour. “I have a routine that I go through at tournaments in order to get ready to go out and play.”
That routine seems to have done wonders for the No. 1. Scheffler entered the second round at 9:35 a.m. ET, paired with Sepp Straka, just five shots behind leader Akshay Bhatia, who fired a career-best 8-under 62 on Day 1.
