How many of you have ever really thought about what golf ball is best for your short game? Well, we put it to the test. Start from the green and we’re going to move our way back. So, Rob, you want to go through a little bit more on the testing methodology? A lot of people go out there and they take their driver and what ball goes the furthest, right? and that doesn’t necessarily translate into lower scores. So, that’s what we want to do is show everybody out there how they can go through a pretty simple process on their own and find out what ball works around the green best for them. And we’re even going to show our data because, you know, the ball golf ball that is ideal for Scott is not ideal for me. You know, we have different angles of attack and that plays a big role into it. So, play different shots around the green. Exactly. And and so for the type of player you are, for the type of ability you have, you will really want to dial in the golf ball. Golf ball, it’s the one thing you use on every single shot. So you might as well get that right. We’re going to take you through our test methodology. I’m going to hit some shots and get started with some shots around the green. Okay. So the first location, like we talked about earlier, is chipping. So you want to just have a normal chip shot. You’re just off the green a few feet. Here we have five different companies golf balls. And so Scott’s going to go ahead and just hit chip shots. And what you’re looking for is to see if your trajectory changes and how it reacts on the green. Go ahead, Scott. Hit a few for us. So that one was came off. I like the height of that. You hit it to about 2 ft. So that’s really solid. See, now that one comes off a little lower, a little more spin. So this is what this is the eye test. This is what you want to be doing. And it’s easy to do. Like we said, you don’t need a launch monitor for it. I’m really feeling the difference, too. of these balls. That’s right. That’s important factor, too, the feel. Perfect. Yeah. And that’s beautiful right there. So, again, that’s what you’re looking for. Hit some shots with each of them. See how they react on the green. Also, make sure you hit it. Make good contact. Scott’s got a really good short game, so he makes good contact pretty much every time. But if you mis hit one, bring the ball back, hit it again. Also, when you’re doing this test, make sure you don’t get a lot of debris and stuff on your club. Go ahead and clean it off between shots if you need to. So, here we are. Now, what you want to do is you want to take about a 10 to 15 yard pitch shot. That’s all carry, right? You want to carry it a minimum of 10 yards and then see what the ball is doing on the green. You don’t even necessarily have to be hitting at a hole or a pin. Just have kind of a landing spot you want to get to and then, you know, go ahead and hit a few shots and see how they react. Go ahead, Scott. Show us how it’s done. That one had a lot of spin on it. That looked good. That wasn’t that wasn’t the cleanest contact. I Yeah, and that’s the thing. If you don’t hit one, you know, real square, go ahead and, you know, you can hit it again. There you go. But also take note of the ones you don’t hit well and how those react, too. As I’m standing here, I could see three or four different trajectories, and you could definitely see the ball reacting on the green differently. Yeah. And then that just becomes personal preference. Like what are you most comfortable around the green? It feels so important to me, too. Like I could feel the difference between several of those balls. I like a ball that feels maybe slightly softer, like I’m getting into that urethane cover versus a ball that’s a little clickier, feels harder. It’s like I’m That’s just a feel thing for me. And you know, we know confidence is huge in golf. And that type of stuff gives you confidence. Yeah. So now we’ve moved back to our 50 yard spot. This is usually where we introduce the launch monitor and stuff like that. We’ve done a lot of this stuff in the lab, but Scott’s going to hit a few shots just to demonstrate that even if you don’t have a launch monitor and you’ve got a green out there from 50 yards, you can hit a few shots and you can see what the trajectory is doing and what the spin’s doing. Oh, go in the hole. Nice shot. Very nice. So, again, contact is key. After he’s hit a few, he’s taken a few divots. Probably wipe the face off. Make sure the grooves are nice and clean. And then just keep going through the different golf balls that you’re testing out. Now, we’re doing the full swing. We don’t necessarily specify a yardage for this. You want to use the same wedge you were using, chipping, pitching, and the 50 yard shot. This is just a full swing. It’s not as hard as you can hit it. It’s a shot you would play on the golf course for control. So, I think Scott’s got a 60° here. He’s going to hit a few shots for us. We’re going to look for some trajectory and spin differences. So, that one was nice. What did you think of that trajectory? I was good with it. Okay. So, so that might be a good ball for for him. We’ll see. We’re going to hit another ball here. See if the trajectory differs and if that’s something that fits his eye. So, that one looked like it went a little higher. It did. Probably a little less spin. Yeah, it’s hitting the green and releasing. So, that’s probably not ideal. If you have a launch monitor, this is where you can really look at the numbers. You can see the launch angle, which is super important in wedges, as we know. And we’re actually going to share some of that data with you and go through that. So, we’re back here at the House of Spin to go over the results of our ball test. So, this test, just a reminder, we started from 100 yards, we did a 50 yard shot, we did shots close to the green to really get a feel and an understanding for the differences between the products that are out there. We were going to show you the test results for Scott and I, and we’ll talk to our games and what ball we think works for us. But also, you got to think about what ball works best for you. If you go out there and you get a really high spinning ball, that may not work for you. You know, you might be somebody who likes to bump and run it a little more around the green. You pointed this out when we were doing all the testing is feel. I mean, that’s really important. Does the ball sound good to you? Does it feel good off the club face? Is it giving you the right trajectory and spin around the green? So, keep that in mind when you’re picking that ball. It’s not, hey, I’m going to take the ball that spins the most. You need to take the ball that works best for your game. So, to go into the result, I’ll start with the 100 yard shot and 50 yard shot. The differences weren’t very significant. And I mean, there was definitely balls that spun a little bit more, maybe had a little bit more ball speed for me. Then when I got to the shorter shots, the chips around the green, I really like to hit it low with a lot of spin. And then like Rob mentioned, feel is an also a really important factor for me just to deliver more confidence. Making sure that I hit those shots with enough force. Don’t desel. You don’t want to chilly dip it. So, with that said, uh the balls that it came down to were between the Chrome Tour and the Kirkland Signature. My choice, I’d say I get the better bang for my ball with with the Kirkland Signature. So, that would be my choice. How about you, Rob? Cuz I know our games are a little different. I tend to spin the ball a lot already. I like to drive it in there low and have it spin and everybody go, “Whoa.” So, the the ball that surprised me the most in the test is probably the Kirkland Signature. That’s a really quality golf ball for a very low price. manic compared to the tie list stuff and the tie list is used, you know, I grew up playing, but I, you know, for me on the 50 yard shot, I thought the Kirkland as far as trajectory, spin, and even feel a little bit better, I thought. So, again, you know, like you said, the best ball for my buck would probably be the Kirkland, but I could easily use the Titus, but that’s something I grew up using, too. So, I really quality golf balls. I mean, everything in that test is good. Um, it’s just again, it’s what what works best for you. Thanks for being with us along this journey. I've got 2 opinions on this and they both contradict each other.
Firstly, the lie, club and the shot massively dictate the spin you can put on a ball. For the average golfer it varies so much because of our inconsistent strikes that it's almost impossible to know or predict what the ball is going to do once it hits the green so it doesn't make a difference.
Secondly, using the same ball all the time and one that you like the feel of isn't going to make you worse so you might as well stick to one type.
Damn the Kirkland coming in for the win?!?!! 🎉🎉🎉 Send me them balls!!! 🫠🫠🫠
