the brand new MG5 tailor made wedge drop today. What’s different about it? What upgrades does it have compared to the MG4? Most importantly, we’re going to test it against the Voki and the Mazuno Pro. The Mazuno is a sneaky one in here. There’s a specific reason why we’re testing it based on the new characteristics of the MG5, which I’m going to tell you about. Tate’s out of town. Tim our fitter is going to be helping me out. Let’s roll, baby. We’re going to start with the Mazuno. Reason why is what’s very unique about Mizuno is they’re one of the only major brands anyways that’s doing a fully forged wedge. So the Mazuno is probably the softest wedge on the market in the sense of it’s got that layer of copper. It’s full grain flow forged just like all of their irons and it’s got a very very similar characteristic. So, what I like about this, I played quite a few rounds with this Mazuno, and it just has a really, really soft feel. Probably the best feeling wedge off the face out of everything we sell in the store. Tim, why is that important when you’re fitting for wedges? Probably more than anything we fit. Would you say wedges are more of a customer feel than anything? Oh, for sure. I mean, you have I mean, whether it’s balance or just feel. I mean, you’re This is the shot where we’re not swinging full, right? We’re not going all out. We’re not trying to, you know, even really shape. Although you can have those characteristics, but at the end of the day, what are you going to be able to hit those feely shots with? Yep. And it does. It feels very, very soft. So, super soft. Feels great. I did end up pulling them out of the bag. The Mazuno Pro just has a small teardrop shape. A little intimidating for me. And I I got some inconsistencies with distance. Really? Yeah. You try it. See what you think of it. I don’t know. It just felt like it was kind of jumping on me. Not like getting flyers like a game improvement wedge or anything like that. It just Well, based on that, is your the wedge is normally lower or No. Yeah. I mean, I’m I mean, I’m not swing. I can’t I just can’t hit them today, which new t-shirts are in. So, I don’t know. Tell me what you think. That’s a 56 degree. 56 degree. So, just a nice little little flip here. Soft, huh? It is soft. That one jumped off the face. See, that’s what I feel like a little bit. Just I was getting around the greens, especially with really really intermediate shots, 25, 30 yarders. I wasn’t pin high. And you know me, I’m always pin high, but for some reason with those Mazunos, I wasn’t. It all But it also seemed that one was a little lower. So, I’m wondering if maybe it jumps a little bit if it’s off the bottom part of the face. That’s just a theory. It could be the days I played Mizuno, I just had absolutely no distance control. It could have been 100% my fault. I mean, they feel they feel great. Exceptional, right? They feel just like a Mazuno iron, which is great because that’s what I’m used to. Yep. All right. Now, let’s get into the Vokei. So, wow, that flew. No secret, Bokei is the number one wedge in market share. It is by far the most popular on tour and by far the most popular in our showroom. Right. Yeah. By far. So, it’s going to be Vokey. Then, as far as market share goes, our number two selling wedge is going to be the Cleveland RTZ, which is phenomenal wedge. Great wedge. I would say our third bestselling wedge would probably be would have probably be the MG4s or the um Callaway Opuses. I think it’s it’s tailor made by I think a wide margin in third MG4s. Okay. So, what’s the problem with Vokis? As good as they are, if we had one complaint about them, what’s going to be our complaint? Ooh. Uh popular one I’ve heard could also be what you said kind of with Mizunos as you control. Some people find Voki spin too much is what I’ve heard some people say. See, I would think the number one complaint about Vokis, especially on the amateur level, is going to be lack of feel. I think they’re one of the clickiest feeling wedges. That’s true. Like I have been avoiding them and avoiding them and avoiding them because they just I hate the way they feel off the face, especially compared to that Mazuno. Oh, that’s a big difference between the Mazuma casted wedge, right? Which everything is, but look at that. Look at my distance control. Maybe maybe it’s just placebo. You put it in my hand and it just it just does all the right things. I don’t know. Let’s try a third one. What’s my yardage? 75. Yeah, that’s all over it. When I say all over it, being on the green means I’m all over it. Well, all three of those shots were consistent. Very, very consistent ball flight. and very very consistent yardage control with this guy. Yep. I mean, that’s a repeat of the last shot right there. Yeah. Little farther, but as much as I have to say I don’t love the feel. Mhm. You can’t argue with the results. It’s ironic. I’m gaming them, but it’s my least favorite feeling wedge in our showroom. So, if you had to rank them, though, and the ones that we have, how would you rank them? I would say the RTZ is the best feeling casted wedge. Okay. See, look at that distance control. See what I mean? Like the the Mazuno just felt like it’s jumping a little bit. Pretty much every wedge is casted except Mizuno. Bettonardi makes a forge wedge that we offer. Um Wilson, believe it or not. Yeah, look at that. Makes a forge wedge that we offer. might be missing some forge wedges. But anyways, almost all wedges are casted. Yep. And uh little right. Here’s a mythbuster that we want to get to and we’re going to try to make a video on it. I don’t know how we’re going to do it, execute it, but some people say the reason brands make casted wedges is the grooves wear out too fast on forge wedges. That’d be an interesting thing to test. I don’t know the answer to that. I would be inclined to say that that’s not true. Well, especially if there’s the fact that if you’re having a fully forged club and you’re having an iron that you’re swinging faster, you would think that if you’re going to use that logic, that would wear out way faster than a wedge would. Exactly. You’re hit you’re swinging faster. You’re trying to hit it farther. Maybe you don’t hit it as much. I don’t know. Maybe it’s true that the Vuly just has really dialed distance control and really dialed flight. Yep. I think we could both say the Mizuno feels better off the face. Yes, definitely more clicky with the V. So, this is in theory where the new MG5 comes in. So, what do we love about the MG4 that’s carried over to the MG5? One, I think it’s really cool. They’re one of the only ones that makes raw face only. Mhm. So, you get that nice distressed feel, which they say helps us spin. Another myth mythbuster we’ll need to test. But only the face rusts. The rest of the wedge looks nice. Well, the other thing, too, is that Tailormaid’s made it to where they have that laser etching on the MG5 between the grooves. Yeah. So, this laser etching is still here. They’ve modified it a little bit compared to the MG4. Tailor made wedges are known for zipping off of the green, like being spinny as heck. Not to mention, you’re going to look down at your wedge and see a little bit of your golf ball left. Yeah. See, there’s some chunks on there. So, benefits of Tailor Made, if you need help with spin, very spinny, raw face only, and then they’re one of the only ones that do a milled sole. So, that’s just going to guarantee consistency across the entire production line. So, you won’t have any variance with them and the way that they’re produced versus like a hand ground. And they’ve simplified the grinds and bounces this year. Yes. Oh, and they’ve added black. So, you can get this in black now. Yes. Not all bounces, but we can get a decent amount of them in black. Biggest thing is right here, though. Biggest potential improvement forged. Now, that shouldn’t have any difference from a performance standpoint as we can see with the Mazuno, but the MG4 was a darn good wedge. Very consistent, very much can compete with a Vokei. Now, you give me a forge feel. What? Forged face, forg body, forg? You kidding me? Right. Let’s see if it feels softer. By the way, this is the proto one I got. So, the MG5 has a little bit different logo. I forget where it says it. I forget where it’s stamped at, but it’ll have an MG5 logo, not the Proto logo like I have here. Can’t have it. It’s mine. It’s proto. Oh, it’s definitely softer than sound as clicky. It didn’t. No. Yeah. A little short there. That’s okay. We’ll fix that. Definitely has a nice feel. Oh, very much softer. Yeah. So, I’m just a little short, but it’s going in the same spot. So, could this be the blend of the perfect? Right. You have This could be the blend of what I what I need, right? And needs to go in my bag. Put a little more on that one. Seems pretty consistent, huh? Yeah. Yeah. All three of those have been the same. It’s like consistent distance of the Vokei, but the feel of the Mazuno. Mhm. Now, I better be a little careful here because nothing feels like a Mazuno. That’s what they say. There’s a reason why it’s simple branding for Mazuno, but it feels pretty close. Man, I’m kind of I’m kind of enjoying this. I’m not necessarily noticing more spin, but that could be me. Oh, there’s there’s the old clippage. The old nippy she snuck in there. But see, still a good result. I mean, for the most part, that was what, four or five shots practically the same thing. Yeah. Let’s get number five in here. Oh, that’s heavy. That looks good. Dang it. I was just getting used to my Vokis. Well, but at least if you go to those and you’re already used to the feel of Mizunos, it’s not going to be that much of a change in feel. Does feel good. It also looks good, though. Yeah. I’ve always been partial to and what’s cool is if we can do this for you too. Um the my tailor made or my wedge or whatever if you want to personalize them. Feel soft. Yeah. Yeah. Also that feels it felt definitely that it popped off the face more than the Voki, but maybe not as quite as the Mazuno. Definitely way more spin though. Now, by the way, just to plug a future video here, I do have a secret Vokei from another country that will solve my conundrum. Secret Vogy. Yeah. Stay tuned for that. First couple hits, would you game a wedge like this? Would you game this wedge? Better question. Well, I think there’s a reason why you have a lot of the top players who are playing the proto right now. So, what are you gaming? You’re gaming some old Vokis, right? Old Vokis. Now that you’ve been fitting for us for a while, out of everything you’ve tested in the store, what’s what out of our wedge lineup is in the in the hunt for you to make the bag. It’s sniffing around. Now that this is forged, this is probably leading the way, but it wasn’t before. The MG4. I did like the MG4 a lot. It was weird having that little sandpaper feel though. Yeah. when you first opened it and I know that would wear. I do like though as you talked about that Tailor Made has that where the whole the face will rust but not the whole club. But not the whole club. So that’s a nice touch. And that’s just an aesthetic preference cuz some people want the whole thing to rust aesthetically. Yeah. I mean that’s just any distance control issues with this guy? No. I feel that if we even tried to I don’t know. We’ll try to hit one just to the front here. Ah, jumped a little bit, but not really. Not really. I mean, that was pretty much exactly what I wanted to do with it. What about the RTZs? RTZs are also a great wedge. I think some people find in the in the showroom when we’re fitting, they almost think the RTZ the head’s too heavy more than a Vokei one. I know it’s weird. Well, the problem with Vokei sales is people don’t really test them. No, it’s definitely the brand. You know, you just walk in and you know what it is. You know what you want. We don’t really fit Bokis, as dumb as that sounds. People fit themselves in vokis. Yeah, they fit themselves in them by just grabbing them off the shelf. Yep. They might in a fitting they might hit one or two, but they know that they want Vokis. I mean, that’s just the brand that Voki has built for themselves. But just like the golf ball, there’s a lot of brands that are starting to That one got that one jumped a little bit, but I think I might have given that one a little bit extra. There’s a lot of brands that are really grabbing some market share in the wedge space. They’re making some really good wedges. Oh, absolutely. But I also think they almost feel that they might have to to try to capture more of it. This is my only concern for Tailor Made, right, is it’s a forged club, which means in order to get it Vokis out of people’s hands, people have to actually hit that. So, they have to come in, you have to be able to tell the story, they have to demo it and try it to convert Vokei orders. That’s a lot of steps versus someone just coming in and buying voc. But I think what Tailor Made might have going for him is that they have all if they have all these top guys playing it and people are seeing it every weekend that might get a lot more of them intrigued in the club itself. So that’s true. I think this because of the forged feel, I think it’s a little bit different. You know, they’re not they’re not really trying to attack an RTZ or a Vokei really. Nope. They’re trying to do what Mizuno is doing, but probably going to execute it a little bit better, especially from a marketing standpoint. Yeah, especially, you know, you have you have a tailor made marketing versus Mazuno. People obviously know tailor made more. Yeah. But I mean, I could sit here and hit this wedge all day. Isn’t it weird though like how many Mazuno irons will sell, but just that we don’t get the same momentum with wedges, even though it’s a good wedge. Well, I even find with Mazuno irons though, it’s most people come in not really knowing Mizuno. Yeah. But even you play Mizuno irons and you’re not probably not sniffing the Mizuno wedges. No, but I also think the best part about it is having that mixed bag. You know what I mean? Figuring out what’s going to work from each company. You could have the Tailor Made wedges, Mizuno Irons. You could go Callaway Driver and Woods. Yeah, just depends. That’s why it’s awesome. There’s so much equipment that everybody can find what works. So, final thoughts. Uh, there’s a lot of things we love about Tailor Made wedges. Grind, uh, milled sole, raw only face, really spinny wedges, and now to top it off, they are fully forged. So much better. Biggest increase of the year is just feel. Um, if you don’t care about feel, you can still get MG4s for $50 cheaper. So, $1.99 price tag. So, they are a little spendy, but that’s what the going rate is for wedges now. 189 to 200 bucks. Um, definitely feels better than a Vokei. Can it perform better than a Vokei? I think that’s up to the individual player. Certainly worth a look at. I would say Voki, MG5s, RTZs, one of those three you really can’t go wrong with. Stay tuned for more. See you guys next time.

Just about to invest in new wedges, so timing is perfect?
Cleveland RTZ is the clear winner, so we didn't add them to this comparison, or what? 😂
Rtz
havent heard about the grooves wearing out at different rates, but to my knowledge the reason wedges like vokeys are cast is because it allows them to manipulate the mass in the head more easily to create a higher cg.
Not to be that guy, but the past tense for “cast” is just “cast”. Not “casted” lol 😂
I e been gaming Forged Vokey wedges from Japan for years.
With Tim wearing that hat I cant take anything he says serious. Hockey Strings don't belong on a hat with a straight bill. Get Tim a golf bucket hat please.
I'll never buy a wedge that rusts, hate rust in every way possible except on Corten Steel for landscaping. Which the M5 came in a non rust face.
This sealed it cobra snakebites are leaving the bag mg5’s getting in
Woa $200 a wedge 😮
Loved my Opus Platinums but just picked up a set of 1 time used Mizuno T1 48/55/60 s400 wedges $300 off eBay. Gotta love steals due to being lefty! 😅 I can't wait to try them
MG3 and 4s are tough to beat. I got fit for vokeys and hated them! I felt an MG3 and the weight and delivery is unlike any other! TM wedges are amazing already, I hope they don't dissapoint for when I buy them next year when they're on sale
I switched from Cleveland to Mizuno wedges a couple years ago. Best feeling wedges I have played and favorite wedges I have ever owned. After switching when it is time to replace, I see myself with another set of Mizuno. Everyone else I play with is using Vokey's.
Taylormade is the best
mizuno pros have been my favorite this year. love how they feel
I have the Mizuno T24 and they are awesome.
I swear I have some older Taylor made forged wedges. They were the RAC model I believe, it has forged stamped in the neck. I say that because I’ve seen all these “this is Taylor mades first forged wedges”
Nothing like a Cleveland for me
Vokey does have a forged option. Although it’s a Japanese market offering.. you can get them, but they’re like $250 usd..
But I’ve been playing the mizuno’s since the t22’s
I played the MG 3 and 4 they were great. I switched to the RTZ adaptive 58* wedge it rocks. It will be hard for anyone to get that out of my bag. I love the grind and full face grooves. The grind reminds me of the CG12 DSG grind
These guys talk and talk like a couple old ladies
Missed Tayte's opinion, because I think he plays Cleveland and they are softest over played and love them.
I have the mizuno t1 blue wedges
Best wedges I’ve ever had.
I’ve ALWAYS struggled with feel from 70 and in, and around the greens. These feel easy to swing, I can control the distance and I actually get spin.
Which for me is a big deal because I never really have before
Yeah Asian market get QUALITY VOKEY we get profit driven cast! No thx. I'll keep my Mizuno & Miura wedges
We’re NOT known for proper English grammar, just NOT our forte but we are banning books that accurately document history in Florida
I’m using the Mizuno Pro forged wedges and they feel great. Along with my Mizuno 245 irons. 🤘
You should compare the mg5 and Cleveland rtz
My Mizuno wedges are my secret weapon. Probably the only person at my club using them.
Do vs the old mg4!!
I'm using the Cleveland RTZ's right now and I love them. What's different is that they just hit $200 plus per wedge. Golf is getting out of control lately.
