President Donald Trump on Tuesday confused Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem with a professional golfer ― while Noem was just feet away.
The gaffe occurred as Trump ― reading from a list ― introduced some of his top officials amid the signing of an executive order establishing a task force for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
“Secretary of Homeland Security Cristie Kerr,” Trump said, mistakenly referring to the LPGA golfer instead of Noem.
The president, an avid golfer himself, quickly caught the slip.
“It says Cristie Kerr. Do you know who Cristie Kerr is? She’s a friend of mine. Great golfer,” he added, before correcting himself: “Kristi Noem.”
Trump then told Noem: “She’s a better golfer than you, that’s the only thing. But you’re better at a lot of other things. But I want to thank you for being here and for doing an unbelievable job.”
Noem laughed and appeared to mime a golf putt in response.
Cristie Kerr, notably, is not part of the Olympics task force. She continues to play on the LPGA Tour.
