Colin Cowherd: Why Scottie Scheffler ≠ Tiger Woods
There’s a lot of talk yesterday because uh Scotty Sheffller wins and really pulled away. Played great early in the final round. Pulled away from the other world class golfers and people are saying, “Man, this feels like Tiger Woods.” No, it doesn’t. And I love Scotty Sheffller. They have one thing in common. Scotty Sheffller right now in his prime and Tiger in his prime felt like they were absolutely better than even the second best golfer in the world. And if both were hitting their putts, and Tiger almost always was, if they go into the final round with a lead, you’re not catching them. That’s what they have in common. But Tiger was much longer off the tea. And and and golf equipment’s actually improved. He was 40 yards off the tea longer sometimes. And Sheffller’s about 310. Sometimes Tiger was 360, 370. Secondly, Tiger is the best iron player I’ve ever seen in my life. Maybe there’s somebody better. I’m not sure. and Tiger was consistently on the tour in his prime. Unbelievable lag putter and an unbelievable big tournament, big putt star. Sheffller’s gotten way better at that, but he can struggle. At least he did previously. So, I mean, they were talking about tiger proofing courses. It was ridiculous. Sheffller, again, there’s a difference. Scotty Sheoffller doesn’t intimidate other golfers. He just beats them. Tiger Woods, the galleries, the fist pump. He leaned into it much more Michael Jordan. He’d taunt you at the free throw line. They were trying to tiger proof courses, but you couldn’t do anything. Okay, let’s make it longer. That played the Tigers advantage. So Sheffller is ruling golf. To me, Tiger revolutionized it. Tiger was MJ or Mike Tyson in his prime. He intimidated other great fighters, other NBA Allstars. And again, Tiger loved it. Like MJ loved taunting you. Sheffller’s more Tim Duncan. Reserved, avoids mistakes, uh, fundamentally strong, businesslike. Now that he’s got the putting going, if he leads on Sunday, it’s over. But Tiger made you feel like you wanted to go out. He had so much alpha. You’d watch Tiger play and you wanted to go to the driving range. You wanted to grab your clubs and go play. I mean, Scotty Sheffller, he said it last week. You know, I don’t get much out of winning. He’s a little bit of a buzzkill. I love Tim Duncan, but he never wanted me made me want to go grab a basketball. When I was a kid, if you watched a great player, you’d want to go out in the backyard and shoot that. That That’s not Sheffller. So, it’s like LeBron. LeBron got to eight straight finals, but he never felt like he quite had the the MJ Killer Instinct, the MJ juice, the MJ feel. I mean, think about this. They’re both at 29, Tiger had 10 majors in 46 wins. Sheffller’s got four and 17. Phil Mickelson is a legend, an all-time great golfer. He’s got 45 career wins. Tiger had 46 in his 20s. So again, there’s a difference between ruling golf and revolutionizing it. There’s a difference between winning and intimidating. And I I think I think that is when you can get into other golfers or other fighters or other UFC fighters heads. That’s Tiger. Scotty’s just great. And now that he’s got his putting going, if he leads going into Sunday, that thing felt over by his third hole. You’re like, “Yeah, yeah, it’s over.” I think even he afterwards after the open win acknowledged that I still think they’re a bit silly. You know, Tiger won what 15 majors. It’s my fourth. Just got 1/4 of the way there. So, just I mean, it’s I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf. I don’t focus on that kind of stuff. That’s not what motivates me. I’m not not motivated by winning championships. I feel like what motivates me is just getting out and, you know, get getting to live out my dream. Yeah. Scotty Sheffller’s great. Tiger was obsessed. And there is something about the athletes in our time. Brady obsessed with football. Obsessed. Josh Allen’s really good. Is he obsessed? I don’t know. But but but Brady’s obsession slash intensity was kind of intimidating. I mean I I grew up with John Elway. I was a Seahawk fan. If you grew up and you led and Elway got the ball, it was deflating. You knew the outcome. That was Brady. So I don’t feel that was I don’t I never felt that Aaron Rogers was good. It’s a coin flip. Will he come back and win or not? It’s a coin flip. Brady, it’s over. Get in the car. Warm the car up. Start the car. And I think I think that intensity of tiger is just different than anything I’ve ever seen.

Who said he was Tiger woods? Woods won the Masters at 21 and the career grand slam at 24. This guy is a dumbass
The Only thing they have in common is the Nike shirt and even that's different
Tiger woods was the most famous athlete on the planet in the 2000s as a golfer! Which sounds impossible to do because golf is boring
Scottie Scheffler is a ball striking machine who doesn't flinch or make mistakes.
Long is as Scheffler wins who cares. John Daly had personality but didn’t win so wins talk bullsh!t walk ! Tiger just did a fist bump, Tiger was a real proper Standford boring dude. Tiger had a run but when he got caught in scandal he wasn’t mentally strong enough to bounce back, Tiger was weak mentally after the scandal, Jordan would have never mentally folded like Tiger did than after mentally golfing Tigers body followed his mind & start breaking down. If Scheffler ends up with more wins than Tiger than what ?
Can Colin do an IQ test on air? I’m placing my bet at 95.
Scottie doesn’t have to be Tiger, to be better than Tiger. Jack didn’t have the appeal that Tiger had either. It may not happen, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he reached Jack. If he does, it’s going to be an even greater feat because of the overall level of competition. You won’t have to worry about him changing his swing like Tiger did. I still can’t figure that one out.
Scottie Scheffler is a total douchebag, and he is not even a Top 10 All Time Golfer. He will NEVER come close to Tiger in his prime. If Scottie played against Tiger in his prime, he would lose to Tiger 8 out of 10 times.
Low IQ take
Way too early to compare . Let Scottie get to 10 majors before having this conversation . I hope he does .
Well-said!
Scottie is a Christian, loves his 1st and only wife, and a Family Man…….No comment on Tiger–will leave that discussion for the man upstairs….
We will see after his career is over
Colin completely made up tiger's driving stats. He's never averaged more than 310 off the tee… and that was in 2021. So no, he wasn't 40 yards longer. He would've been with modern day equipment tho.
Cowherd misspeaks about Tiger's driving distance; he states 360 to 370 yards but that is not accurate. Tiger averaged 290 to 300 most years; his peak average was 316 in 2005. Scottie's average driving distance is 305 to 310, and he is more accurate. Scheffler led the PGA tour in strokes gained off the tee and also strokes gained with approach to the green; he is the first and only PGA tour golfer to ever be first in both of those ball striking stats. I mean no disrespect to the greatness of Tiger, but Cowherd doesn't speak accurately about his driving distance.
