A new miniature golf course and short game practice facility is opening in Chicago’s Columbus Park.

City officials will celebrate the park’s completion at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Columbus Park, located at 5701 West Jackson Boulevard, the park district recently announced.

The new 9-hole artificial turf mini putt course and practice facility features both chipping and putting greens, and creative design that is fun and engaging for golfers of all ages and skill levels, the Park District said in a release.

“Projects like this have a positive and profound impact on removing barriers and making the sport available to everyone,” said Park District General Superintendent and CEO Carlos Ramirez-Rosa. “The new mini putt course and practice facility is available for public use, free of charge, aligning with the Park District’s commitment to investing in the communities we serve and providing exceptional experiences that foster community well-being.”

The $450,000 project was funded by Troon, which manages the park district’s golf facilities and programming.

This project is part of $9 million in capital improvements Troon committed to park golf facilities across Chicago, according to the park district. Other improvements funded by Troon include bunker and irrigation renovations, cart park improvements and upgraded equipment.

“This project brings opportunity, recreation, and pride to a community that has long deserved first-class facilities. It’s a place where young people can learn the game, patrons can refine their golf skills, and where families can gather,” said Matthew McIntee, Senior Vice President of Troon Chicago. “Not only will it enhance golf in the city and on the West Side, but it will also grow the game and hopefully produce champions on the West Side for generations to come.”

In addition to the new Columbus Park facility, Chicago Park District operates five 9-hole courses, one 18-hole course, miniature golf, an indoor golf simulator and a double-deck driving range.
