Despite being new to the sport, she showed remarkable talent, shooting a 91 and driving the ball to 150 yards regularly. This meant she couldn’t compete in amateur golf tournaments. However, this didn’t stop her. She continued to play golf, participating in exhibition tours and celebrity proams. In 1942, Babe regained her amateur status after not competing in any other sports for 3 years. This allowed her to compete in and win several significant amateur tournaments. For instance, she won the 1946 US women’s amitur and the 1947 British ladies amit her, becoming the first American to achieve this feat. Babes’s transition to professional golf was official in 1947. She announced her decision to turn pro and quickly made a name for herself in the professional golf world. She was one of the founding members of the Ladies Professional Golf Association, LPGA, in 1950, a organization that would become the cornerstone of women’s professional golf. As a professional golfer, Babe Dedrickson Zaharius achieved incredible success. She won 41 LPGA Tour events, including 10 major championships such as the Women’s Western Open, the Title Holders Championship, and the US Women’s Open. Her victories were not limited to women’s tournaments. She also competed against men in PGA Tour events, making the cut in several of them, a feat no other woman had achieved until many years later. Babes’s career was marked by her relentless practice and dedication. She would often hit balls until her hands were bloody and sore, showing her commitment to mastering the sport.
