[Music] i feel like it was an incredibly important day in my whole career [Music] because if I hadn’t have won that I think it would have been unbelievably difficult to take [Music] [Applause] sunday morning before I went out I let myself think about winning but I was trying to not get ahead of myself and I really just couldn’t wait to get the day over with to see if I was going to win or not [Music] [Applause] [Music] i honestly feel so lucky that I got to achieve something like that and to do it in the way I did it i just like I said at the ball walking down the 18th looked up at the leaderboard -5 next to me is – 9 and said I cannot believe that’s me up there it’s funny I was hitting my second shot on 18 uh just before I got down to the ball and I I kind of walked around the corner where you could see the flag my daughter was wearing a yellow jacket that was very you know visible you’ll be able to see it so I could see my family and I started to like I almost cried and I said to both God I’m welling up here and he goes well cop yourself on home because you’ve got you’ve got a shot to hit here once I hit that I hand them a club but I told him I loved them i thanked him like I told him let’s enjoy this let’s enjoy it together [Music] [Applause] i know how hard this game is and I know how hard it is to win tournaments and I know how hard it is to win majors so to be able to achieve something like that and to do it in the fashion I did it in Ireland as well was incredible you’d love to be able to stand there for longer because it’s so hard to take everything in but just to be able to knock that put in and lift your hands up and you know hug Bo and and see my family that was the most incredible feeling the winner of the gold medal and the champion golfer of the year is Shane Larry winning the open championship and getting to lift the cloud choke was something that you know as a kid from Ireland you can only dream of and the week afterwards was just something that I’ll remember for the rest of my life [Applause] okay lovely since I get off the 18 green on Sunday it was just 100% goal like um I hadn’t stopped so I still hadn’t fully sunk in yet that nice camera that’s it very nice i like that look wake up Monday morning and you look and the declares in your bedside locker it’s just you know Tuesday morning the same and it’s just like wow you know this is unbelievable [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] it’s been surreal to be honest so far it definitely hasn’t settled in for me anyway i don’t I don’t know about Shane or even the rest of the family but uh yeah it’s it’s even I suppose seeing what what comes with the win for him as well is just it’s amazing it’s amazing to think and the first time I got to kind of hold a jug properly and read it and stuff like that it was just insane it was uh yeah it’s surreal that’s that’s the only way I can put it [Music] so happy for him you know every sports person goes through their tough times and things like that just to see him to get through all of that and for this to happen is just it’s amazing it’s brilliant [Music] the lads organized a media day on Tuesday so I had like 3 hours of media to do and we did it in a place in Dublin and then we went down to to Offley down to my parents and that big homecoming which was just incredible yeah all my family they live like an hour away from Dublin it It was mad that was pretty cool actually and a guy I know has a like a car service so he was driving us good few i think there was 10 or 15 of us in the bus and we were going down and you know obviously spirits were very high and we were having a laugh this is something else to be fair it’s going to take about half an hour off the journey yeah we just they’re usually following me oh where are they going look at this lad oh there’s Arlo there look i really wanted to enjoy the week and really soak it all in and you know this is probably going to be one of the greatest things that’s ever happened to me you know and I just wanted to be able to to soak it all in and and look back on it and and remember it well so I was looking forward to but I was quite nervous just getting down home just the the homecoming the whole thing i thought you know just for me alone uh I didn’t know what it was going to be like but yeah I was just I was excited to get down and see my granny especially hadn’t seen her since I won and my extended family so yeah it was just it was excitement but I was nervous going down you know i was I was looking forward to it but I didn’t really envision what it was going to be like jeez it was it was unbelievable my wife you know we have a normal life we we live in Dublin and we were able to go about our business fine like um so I think the the week after and you know the TV cameras and stuff and she just found it a bit surreal you know she wasn’t quite quite used to it but it’s just amazing just being able to share it with someone that’s the thing people see the good times you know people see the good times on TV and think you know things are going great but the people that are there when the good times when it’s during the bad times are the people that you want to share the good times with most so it was just great to have her there with me so went to my parents house and I thought there was going to be three or 4 hundred people in my parents house but they kept it to just very close family like the extended family were waiting for us down in in the town i mean it was obviously pure emotion from you know my my mom and dad I’ say they shed a tear I’d say they’ve shed shed a few tears since then and it’s I mean my parents were they made a lot of sacrifices over the years for me so to be able to just walk in the door and hand them to Clark Yoga is just it’s something like I never thought I’d be able to do you know hi Tom how are you good to see you look at her [Music] [Applause] my granny was there how are you granny was all over the news the two days previous so she was uh she’s just a great woman like you’re more famous than I am Granny we grew up only about 500 yards from her house and we used to spend a lot of time there and very close to her so I mean it was great to be able to just give her the trophy and give her a hug and yeah it was just it was really nice he done well himself you know he held his head well and very proud of him ah she were on top of the world and I had two brisies now I hadn’t a brandy since the Irish Open nine year oh Jesus that’s enough i didn’t know which of me likes to put in front of me oh Lord but anyway it was great excitement the homecoming and Clara was fabulous [Music] thanks very much can I just have one of me own there i’m dying to do this i’m dying to do that you don’t even want me you don’t even want B that day I think he was half thinking about not coming but I said to him “You have to come down here like it’ll be good fun.” And yeah I mean he obviously he had great fun we all had great fun like it’s just like I feel very fortunate i’ve got a great uh group of people around here that are just good people you know that really have believed in me and I trust so Bo’s obviously only been with me like a year but he’s really come in and fitted in well into my setup and he he was a big part of it so to have him there was great and have my coach Neil there was brilliant as well and it was just yeah it’s just great to be able to share it with everyone [Music] you know I’ve never been cocky type of person or player and I’ve never been one to you know say I’m going to do this that or the other i’m just I go about my business and do things the way I want to do them and the way I see fit and when I think about it that definitely the people around me you know my my team and my family and friends i think everybody around me I probably believed a little bit more than I did myself you know [Music] i think he’s one of the best players in the world i’ve thought that since I started working for him [Music] i think he thought he was one of the best players in the world but he proved to himself how good he really is and that’s what I’m proud of him everyone dreams of winning the major you know he’s done it now so he’s going to be living the dream and hopefully he’ll uh create a few more my parents have um it’s actually quite embarrassing they have in in the backyard they’ve got posters of me all my wins so they’ve got five up there now yeah you think it looks like someone else’s house doesn’t look like my parents house but yeah that’s what they like there so they’re obviously immensely proud of what I’ve done [Music] i didn’t really get emotional at all after golf but I I got emotional a little bit when I was driving into my hometown i car [Music] They’re from a very small place you know someone had told me when I was younger that someone was going to bring the Clara joke back into Clara let alone it be me it was you know I would have found it hard to believe clar is a small town like it’s basically a one street town that’s maybe 500 yards long and yeah just the scenes there was incredible [Music] like I got emotional when the when we pulled right into the town and I seen all the people there and I seen all my family [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] auntie [Music] Hold the line hold the line hold the line hold the line the plan was to get off the bus and walk through the town and people be both sides on the street and then you go up onto a stage but it was like people that I’ve known and seen every day most my life just want to touch you and you know it’s like imagine what it’s like being in a boy band or something like it’s it was just a bit surreal to be honest you are the king only one king now [Applause] and just to see familiar faces you know obviously like where I’m from I’d say there’s probably a population of about 3,000 people i actually don’t even know and there’s probably four or five times that there that day um but to see people that you recognize and that you know and just to see the joy that you actually bring to people’s faces was incredible it’s absolutely brilliant for car and for all of for all of Ireland really it’s been so long since we’ve had anything to celebrate here in a since she won the last time really would be normally a quiet town of a normal day but to see it today in the sunshine it’s absolutely fabulous it’s just a super atmosphere and I suppose for us we just wanted to bring the children because it’s a very momentous occasion and historical occasion for the Midlands for County Offley and for Ireland and it’s an international event now really isn’t it that he’s he’s a superstar really i just love the way he plays he’s a great golfer and he’s cool when he comes to the 18th green and um I’d like to be a professional golfer like him he’s the most humble man you’ll ever meet you talk about celebrity stars it doesn’t affect him at all it it he takes everything in his stride the way I’ve talked to Shane about 10 years ago is the way he talk to you now no no there’s no difference he’s just a humble man loves his town loves his family he’s brilliant and we all love him and the best of luck to him in the future [Music] [Applause] i mean you don’t see that with golfers do you you don’t see what what happened there like you just don’t see that and I think it was great and you know it’s good for the game and I think it’s good for Irish golf that it did happen and you know to go up there and see the amount of people that was there i don’t know how many people were there but I can imagine there was over 10,000 and it was just uh yeah it was great fun [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] i know see we walk up the street like um it’s literally just people on top of us and we’ve got like we’re surrounded by security and they’re trying to get us through and it takes a while to get up to where the stage is then we get up on the stage and it’s just I mean it’s like it it looks to me like people for as far as you can see [Music] [Applause] [Music] without further ado you welcome the man who brought Ireland to a standstill our hearts stopped he was as cool as a cucumber to produce one of the great great sporting achievements in Irish history here he is with the car John Sh larry everybody’s in great form and you know the sun was shining you know everything about it was just there was a good buzzer on the place and you know you get 10 or 15 thousand people coming together and there’s not a bad word spoken between anyone it’s just it’s just incredible shame how the last few days been like Oh it’s just unbelievable unbelievable i can’t believe it it’s just brilliant you know I It’s such an honor now for you people to have me here today it is you know I I this week has been nuts i I was drinking h Sunday drinking Monday drinking Tuesday drink tomorrow Thursday Friday it’s kind of like every other week he said “This week I’m drinking from the car jug.” [Applause] We poured a bottle of gem in it that was our first drink so some whiskey and then it got uh we filled it with Guinness once we only filled it a couple of times the first time we filled it was the best you know I have to say by the way the people of Clara what a welcoming town and there’s young people here who in 50 years time will remember today you brought the cop here everyone is is so invested like even since he’s turned pro you know so much talking in the town is about Shane and how he’s getting on and any weekend he’s in contention or anything like people are in the town watching it in the pubs and things like that like everyone’s so engrossed in how he’s doing and this just h this just tops it for everyone I think and everyone will be talking about this for a long time you all can’t see who sat here behind the Clara flag but it’s that’s the most important group in your life and I see Bo there but you just stop hugging each other like this we choose yeah yeah bo it was really special and everyone thought those who aren’t experts the role you played was huge is that fair to say Shane h not really no i know b Paul’s great i’m sure there’ll be a few candidates for the job down there i get someone to carry it based on this week the money’s not bad over here sorry it was a proper Irish homecoming it was a proper you know it was just a big party and that’s you know to be able to do that for such a small place and to be able to bring that into you know to such a small place was brilliant [Music] it was just It was just nice it was just nice like it was It’s a hard feeling to describe because it’s just I’d love to go back there and experience it again do you know what I mean but yeah it was just something that I I look back on forever we’re definitely we’re you know a country that will jump on any bandwagon that’s going you know a nation of people that like if one of our own is doing well at something we will get in behind them like people came from everywhere you know my friends would be there to be talking to guys that came over after I won on Sunday they come over to Clara on Sunday and then they heard I was coming on Tuesday so they just stayed on Monday as well i just think we’re a nation that get really get behind our people and we love our sports people and you know I’ve always felt very fortunate that I’m from Ireland and that you know we do get massive support no matter where we go so I think it was just kind of the the natural thing to happen was to have something like that how I love you and turn your head to air silently the peaceful grass [Music] from far and near upon the fire bring the clar jug it didn’t leave my side for a few days like I used to go like I’d bring it in the car with me when I was going going somewhere it came up to the room every night remember one night I can’t remember what night it was but I got into bed and I realized it wasn’t there it was downstairs and I went downstairs and got it and brought it back up so yes what an incredible trophy what an incredible piece of history and to have my name on that forever is just it’s still a bit surreal talking about it to be honest hold on from car came a young man shame was his name his dreams and aspirations work to golf and own the game he stole the show at brush by six shots so cool and cal and now the clar trophy rest safely inside his arms i always knew that I was good you know I always thought I was good enough but you just never know when it comes to it so um to be able to achieve something like that was just has sunk in a little bit but not fully you know to be able to you look just to look look at the names on the trophy that’s the first thing you do when you look at the names on the trophy you’re just like “Wow these these people had this trophy in the in their house [Music] i’m good friends with Por Harrington and I’ve been in his house a few times and you walk into his house and his his clar jugs are are sitting there on his uh kitchen table so it’s nice to be able to have one of mine as we told our [Music] toast hero to the [Music] [Applause] Fire [Music] [Applause] [Music] chain i wish you the best of luck getting home

thats the best thing ive seen in a long while. cheers for that.
Loved this big man is a real gentleman. Get her done this year again mate
Anybody who loves golf must go and play in Ireland. Waterford Castle and either up the East coast or go west young man. Great people, beautiful countryside and hospitality of the best type. I went in the 80s when the only dual carriageway was the Naas Road!
It's hard to see why people be-grudge Shane (Especially all those yanks) – great watch, looking forward to the new editions of his success!
Great video. Was Dessie Curley driving the bus through Dublin? 😀
Absolute legend wish him every success
Shane has a great beard but women from Malin to Mizen still talk about the black bearded young fella in the background as Shane lifs his arms aloft in joy on the 18th
