Heat. Hey, heat. Hey, heat. Get up. Heat up here. Is that right? Welcome to the South Texas Amateur Tour Podcast, the Power Hour with your hosts Travis Sowski, Michael Tmanuel, Casey Graham, Jason Bird, and Brad Gilbert. I love that we put a disclaimer and if I remember correctly, it is all because of the dumb [ __ ] I say on here. And so it’s good to be back to actually put that disclaimer to good use. Um I wonder if Travis agrees. Let’s ask him. I think that is exactly what happened. Um got edgy years ago hundreds of episodes ago. I don’t know how many were on officially, but yeah. Um the disclaimer up there is for you. For you for sure. What’s up, Jason Bird? Welcome back to Live on the Podcast. It’s been a hot second. I don’t know what to do with my hands. Uh like I it’s been a while. I think I’ve been maybe six months. I think I’ve done one show in 2025. Well, uh here you are at the controls. Um at the helm of the flagship viewership program. Uh yeah, that’s correct. The interface has changed. live streaming across multiple platforms. That’s right, YouTube, Facebook. We got a lot to talk about tonight and we are gonna spend a bunch of time talking about the 105th Greater San Antonio Men’s Amateur Championship from this past weekend at Cedar Creek Golf Course. Um, we’re going to talk to uh some players from the field. We’re going to talk to the host facilities of PGA head golf professional. That’s going to be a blast. Um, but Jason, we got tour business to take care of first. I agree. Uh, we actually have a tournament this week. The uh the second leg of the sizzling summer stroke play swing. Um, Mission Delago uh this week, Sunday. Registration just closed today. So, we should see a first notice to players tomorrow for this week, Sunday, August 3rd, at Mission Delago. Jason, I was on the phone with Clint Bach today and uh I sent him a text message because a tour golfer texted me and I texted Clint and I said, “Hey, I know the answer to this, but I’m gonna ask it anyways. Tell me the conditions of Mission Deago. And I press send and immediately my phone rings and it’s Clint saying why you got to ask because you know it’s in good shape. And he’s like the greens are actually the quickest they’ve been all year. So we’re in for a treat. Um and then I said terrific. Can I tell everybody double cut double roll on the podcast tonight? And then he left. Okay. So that’s the that that’s not happening. But maybe we’ll get a cut and a roll. Singular. Singular for sure. Yes. Yes. Mission Delago. Uh from the horse’s mouth. Um PGA professional Clint Bach and superintendent at Mission Delago. Clint Bach. Um we just poked. Mission Delago is going to put up a test this weekend. Maybe not the same test that Cedar Creek gave those guys last weekend. Um, that was my joke to Scott Shaw on Sunday at Cedar was, “Well, Mission Delago is going to seem easy next week.” Yeah. Uh, I mean, I hope so. Uh, I already saw the signup list for Mission Delo, and it’s uh the who’s who of who’s going to go score low. I think Jeff Warren’s going to shoot two under. Jeff Warren playing good golf. That is for sure. Um, that is already on the team. Jeff War. Yeah, I know. He uh casually hits 10footers to avoid losing to me twice in one day. Wow. Wow. Wow. I don’t know. We got We’ve got Kevin Davidson. Speaking of the point standings, we got Kevin Davidson already on the team from the spring season and tied for first place in the summer season. So Kevin Davidson emerging as the player of the year front runner almost to the point where, you know, we might not have to do much math down the stretch there. That’s going to be a very small list this year. Yeah, that’s true. I’d hope to make the team in the summer. That’d be nice. You know, uh is at one of my favorite golf course, Moody Gardens. I I would like to be on the team for that. Abs. Absolutely. Uh I know that was uh one of your votes for this particular event, the 2025 South Texas Match Play Challenge. uh is at Moody Gardens this year. Moody Gardens Golf Course in Galveastston, Texas. Is that the correct geographical location? Yeah, I think Galveston. Yeah, it’s a Galveistston MUN, right? I think so. Yes, it is a Galveastston MUN. So, it’s right up our alley. Um Jason, myself, and MD are uh working on going there in a week or two to play a practice round. I have never been there. Jason, tell us just a little bit about that place. It’s a nice golf course. I’ve uh played it twice. It is one of two golf courses that I’m lifetime underpar at. So, I I kind of don’t want to go there and then just ruin that. Uh but the back nine plays out in like this bayou. I guess they call it the Sidor Bayou if I remember correctly. Uh butts up to a little airirst strip. It’s pretty cool place. It’s pretty nice. Sweet. Awesome. Well, we’re looking forward to being there. The last four road teams have won the South Texas Match Play Challenge. So, anything can happen. I know we’re going to run down there to an event that they’re going to have um in on August 8th and we’re going to check in with the Houston Amateur Golf Association. So, that should be super fun. But um all summer season events, speaking of the points list, are open for registration. All remaining events are open for registration. If you email right now while you’re watching the podcast, if you email info stxamour.golf, you can still get on the the the list for mission this weekend if you email right now. I know that’s on Jason’s list following our live broadcast this evening. I I I think people were just getting a little summer forgetful summer doldrums uh you know registration clos earlier this afternoon and I’ve already added four other people to the event uh who just missed a deadline. It happens. It does. It does. It’s hot. It’s the first real week that it’s hot. Although it was absolutely beautiful this morning. Uh so uh this weekend’s going to be hot. Plan accordingly. Start drinking water the day before and uh get signed up for those events. We have uh we have a couple weeks off and then we have an alternate shot partner event open for registration at Basin. The last twoerson event of the regular season. Then we have individual stroke play at Bracken Ridge Park open for registration and the season finale, the players club open championship and the return to Willow Springs. Willow Springs, baby. Open for registration. So, um, Willow Springs opens the 8th. Get your tea times. Willow Springs is opening the eighth. Travis and I were there two months ago and the turf looked pure. I can only imagine what it looks like now. I’ll be sure to let everyone know on the 8th. Um Jason and I are gonna get uh the the privilege to hang out with some of the trail executive staff on August 7th at Willow Springs. So hopefully we can bring you guys a sneak peek that day. That would be great. That would be awesome. Jason, what else do we got for tour business before we start talking about um the the collaborative effort between the San Antonio rules guys, the Alamo City Golf Trail and the Tour to put together this new city of San Antonio or Greater San Antonio Championship Series? Um, I don’t I don’t know if we have any other strictly tour business, but I think it’s a testament to the tour golfer base uh that we were able to lead into the new segment, right? Like we’re able to do the championship series all because of the tour golfer, right? Yeah, absolutely. I do have I do have uh one piece of of tour bulletin news. Uh, Tour Travels 2026 is locked and loaded. Uh, 2025 Tour Travels guests, be on the lookout in the next two weeks for your exclusive right of first right of refusal to 2026 Tour Travels Destination Coler. that is uh in the final stages and we hope to have that out to all 2025 Tour Travels guests within the next two weeks. So, uh super excited about that. Just wanted to put that out there on the airwaves tonight, too. that tour travels excitement is at an all-time high and Coler has put out some awesome social media stuff recently and it’s looked really cool and I’ve really wanted to go there and there’s a chance that Jason and I are going to get a chance to go back there around Halloween. Um, we’ll keep you posted on that. I know it’s going to be cold. I I I know it’s going to be cold. But we’ve talked about it for years and Halloween falls on a Friday this year. So, it’s feasible that we can get up there and play the championship routing. I agree. That would be fantastic. So, we will keep everybody posted on that as well. But all events open for registration. Mission Delago stroke play this weekend and uh tour travels coming soon. Well, a fade out is great. I think it’s time to uh recap the Greater San Antonio men’s amateur championship. We have two special guest to talk about it. Uh we have special guest number one, the man who runs the Cedar Creek, PGA professional, Mike Champagne. Welcome. Hey guys, thanks for having me. What’s up Champagne? Coming to us live from the outdoor patio. Yes, sir. Yeah. Thank you for joining us tonight. Um, man, he’s on brand Cedar Creek shirt. Oh, yeah. I love it. And man, did your place represent uh this past weekend. Holy cow. And to talk about Cedar Creek, top 10 finisher uh and player in the event is Dr. Dasimo. What? Whoa. Something Well, okay. I don’t know who that who that was. That That is got to be Patrick. Patrick’s earbud there giving us some feedback would be my guess. I just put the bud in. Okay, there we go. Are we better? Yes, much better. Lanna was right here. She wanted to listen in. I was like, “Oh, okay. Good evening. Thank you for joining us, Patrick. Oh my goodness. What a what a starstudded show we’ve got. Everybody this evening. Holy cow. Well, Travis, I I think I want to start out with the presentation of the golf course, right? I mean, I thought Cedar Creek was the star of the show. I made the reference a million times over the weekend that it was the country club of Cedar Creek. conditions that Cedar Creek literally probably could not be better. Uh I I it’s hardressed to imagine it could be. I uh I agree completely from all of the playing surfaces. Uh TE’s fairways, putting surfaces were phenomenal. Um the bunkers were ultra challenging. Um, still relatively young after the renovation, so lots of sand, a little fluffy, but the rough around the green complexes, too, was really really challenging. So, I I made the I made the joke in a text thread um Monday that man, it felt like we just got done playing the US Open at at Cedar Creek. And that is, you know, um almost the setting that that the the committee was looking for something that every player is going to talk about for a long time. And I and I totally agree with you. Cedar Creek delivered. Patrick, to you first on that one from a playing perspective. Top 10 finishes. Um cash and checks. Cash. Oh yeah. Right. You know, um, from a playing perspective, from your practice round to tournament rounds, how did the golf course change a little bit? And when you left on Sunday, what was your impression of uh of playing Cedar Creek? Uh, so I mean I’ll start out with, you know, I’ve been I’ve played Seedar Creek probably every year for the last 14 years at some point, at least a round, so a few rounds. Uh, and yes, this is by far the best conditions I’ve ever seen it in. Uh, I played it after the renovation, then played US Open qualifying earlier in the summer, which did not go well. Um, and the conditions through the summer, you know, usually it’s I mean it’s certainly hard to maintain San Antonio golf courses through our hot summers and the fact that like it’s way better than it was in when was that May, I think. Um, it just uh a credit to uh Mike and the staff over at Cedar Creek. I mean, incredible uh the course setup. Uh, I think you you’re you were mentioning your kind of levels like I want like a seven and a half and then we’re going to go to like a a four difficulty and then make it like almost a 10 difficulty. I think you you pretty much nailed it. Uh hopefully I wish I had scored better on the four and a half day, but uh no, I mean Sunday, right? Yeah, like Sunday I mean it was firm. I think I don’t know, you know, it just seemed firmer on Sunday. I I played very good to my kind of strategy, which was I hit iron off every tee. I was trying to give myself a chance at every green. Um, and I pretty much executed that. Yet, some of those pins were just I mean, I don’t want to say they were not getable. They were in fair spots, but if if you’re coming in with a longer iron, which is what I kind of set myself up for, which I knew I was because I wasn’t hitting drivers, um it was hard to get close. And that paid I kind of paid the price for that. Um and just didn’t have enough birdie looks really or real birdie looks. But uh I think that’s interesting for Mike to come in on because man, I I did the same strategy. I think I missed 11 fairways, 10 fairways all tournament and still shot in the 80s. And so it’s it’s an interesting thing the strategy of playing Cedar Creek. Do you need to hit the fairways there or do you need to pump it down there to have shorter irons? But if you try and pump it down there, are you going to hit it in the trees? You got to pump it straight. Yeah. I mean, yeah. I mean, without a doubt. Like I when I play, I hit drivers twice. Four and nine and that’s it. Uh the rest of it’s maybe a 3-wood um on two, maybe a 3-wood on 12. Um last time I played, I hit irons off every T- box on the back. And you know, that’s that’s just the beauty of Cedar Creek is you can hit something longer, if you’re hitting it straight and take advantage of it, but if you’re a little bit off, you’re definitely going to pay the price for that. So, you know, it’s a good point is do I hit an iron and make sure I hit the fairway and then yes, you have a longer shot coming into greens that are just about a year old. Um, you knowing that they’re going to be still a little firm. Um, and where some of the pins were, they’re hard to get to if you’re not coming in high. Um, you know, with like a pitching wedge, nine iron, eight iron maybe. Um, that that’s what makes Cedar Creek so much fun and so great in my opinion. I always think it’s interesting that people will say I hit like two or three drivers, but they are never on the same holes that other people hit them. Like I hit two drivers and it’s on uh 12 and 16. You said four and nine where I hit iron off four and nine. So I think it’s super interesting. And I’m and I’m kind of the other way. Um when I play Cedar, I I hit driver not very far. Not certainly not as far as as Doc and Jason, right? I I’m in the the category with with Mike where we’re we’re back at the 265 category. So I hit I hit No, no, no, no, no, no. Travis, that might just be you, but that’s not me, bud. No, no, no, no, no. I’m a driver. I try all over the place at at Cedar Creek trying to get as as close as I can because I I I want to hit that little nippy 70 yard shot. Right. But uh it’s interesting, Jason, that you point that out. I only hit I only hit driver twice and they’re all on different holes. They’re all on different holes. Some people hit them on 12 and some people hit them on 18 or I’ve heard of people hitting them on two and I’m like, “Okay, that’s interesting.” Seven people hit. Yeah. Six. Six. And I’m like, okay, that’s interesting. I would hit driver on one, three, four, six, eight, and nine probably. That’s right. It’s crazy. I I just I think it’s it’s nuts where people are like, “Yeah, I only hit two drivers.” And then when you dig into it, it’s completely different holes in the two holes you hit driver like I’ll hit driver on. People will tell me, “Oh, hitting driver on 16’s crazy.” But I I’ll pump driver down there to 70 yards without issue. And people were like, “No, it runs out.” Patrick, well, you know, in the past, you’re right, it did run out, but we that was one of the things that was addressed um was making sure that you could be a little more aggressive on 16 and 18 um and not be penalized. I mean, yeah, you can still reach the rough on 18 especially, but the rough is going to stop you from getting underneath the trees, across the car path, you know, like it used to be. Um, and that that that was the whole thought process. And, you know, talking about the golf course and and how we went from spring into summer, like we always knew that we needed growing season and it was going to be, you know, what’s growing season going to look like? How are we going to come out of May into June when the weather warms up? We get an airification under our belt. What’s it going to look like? The greens exploded after the first arification. They just absolutely took off. Um, and filled in completely. Um, and for the tournament, you know, we we rolled and mowed every single day. So before each round, maintenance team was out there mowing the greens and rolling the greens. I I do want to point that out. Not just the greens, the whole facility. The tea boxes were mowed all three days. The fair fairways were mowed all three days and dragged all three days. Yep. I heard we I heard we rolled some fairways, too, is the joke I heard. Well, well, maybe a trailer maybe lost a wheel one day and that roller had anyway. Uh, but uh, yeah, solid solid. You’re exactly right. Solid job mowing out by the maintenance facility. Yeah, Bart and Pablo, Bart, our superintendent, Pablo, our assistant, they’re they’re they’ve worked tirelessly. um you know, not only did they go through the tournament, then they’re out there this week a slicing greens, um working on projects still. There’s always things that can be done that we’re trying to improve that they have these opportunities when we close to do. So, I just think as we continue forward, I’m excited. I mean, I’m more excited for next year than I am for this year. uh what it’s going to look like and how it’s going to play and and what it’s going to be because it is it is great now but put two years of growth under our belts and let’s we’ll be solid that out too and that is really a testament um to to Andrew Peterson and the trails commitment to better course conditions. Listen, everybody knows the trail gets beat up on course conditions constantly. And I would like to point out the change of every facility on the trail closing for two weeks a year to close for maintenance. That that that’s a huge deal that nobody talks about. And that that is a massive that I mean that’s 14 days of loss revenue per golf course times eight properties. That is a big number. And and that’s that is direct direct commitment to course conditions across the trail coming from the upstairs floor at Brackenidge Park. So I think that is and Secret Creek’s closed right now for those detail works that that Mike was talking about. And I I think that’s so cool. Yeah. the courses need a break. Um, you know, when you’re push pushing 200, 230, 250 rounds a day um around the golf course, it’s nice to be able to give it a break. Um, let it heal in a couple places um get some carts off some fairways for a few days. Uh it just really it does make a huge difference and that is the plan. Um going forward um we’ll always we’re always going to do this now when Willow comes out. will be done with renovations for the first time in 5 years or so um where we don’t have something closed for a period of time. So um you know there’ll be plenty of golf to play and we can take these breaks and and do our best to maintain them to the best of our ability. I think it’s uh I think it’s fantastic. U Willow Willow was abysmal and then it was closed for a month. Travis and I went out there and the rough is thick and juicy. It’s just I can see what two weeks just being closed did to the turf conditions alone at Willow Springs. So, I think closing like that is a step in the right direction. Yeah, I agree. I agree completely. Um, circling back to the course setup, Patrick made a comment um about uh what the committee was trying to do on setup in regards to overall difficulty, which is ultimately an impossible task, right? Um, if if every stuffed pin placement and the back of every back tea box equaled 10 out of 10 difficulty, the first day they were shooting for a seven. The second day we were shooting for a four and the third day we were shooting for a nine. And the scoring average on Friday across the whole field, the scoring average on Friday was 82.1. On Saturday it was 80.1 and on Sunday it was 82.5. So we did see that little that little roller coaster where some stuff shifted on Saturday and then exploded with a bigger number on Sunday. So awesome feedback that that’s the way you kind of felt playing it as well. Stats aired up. Oh yeah. I mean, and the the the two guys who shot 68s, Carson and uh was it Phoenix? Phoenix. Yeah. Like I mean that those are just I mean those are just great numbers. I mean it’s just that’s it’s just so hard to make birdies at Cedar and you only have a few opportunities and that means those guys were capitalizing on them and then we’re not making mistakes and it’s just no mistakes and capitalizing. Yeah. Um, in Phoenix’s round of 68, uh, he had one bogey, two bogeies, two bogeies, and one eagle. Carson 68 was bogey free. Bogey free on the final days to win the big check. That’s impressive. And did he birdie 18? He birdied 18. Good stuff. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, he birdie 18. And Jason’s like, “Oh, there’s this exclamation point.” The fact that he hit it that close, I was like, “Wow, he was still flag hunting.” That was a back flag back there. And a solid summer T2 at Texas AM earlier in the year. Yes. Yeah. We have a we have like a little we have a little highlight clip of his. Should we play that now? Um Carson Gallagher, the 105th men’s amateur championship of Greater San Antonio. And he is of the of the championship. He is the champion. I think that’s what I was trying to say there. Champion of the championship. The champions champions. Championships champion with scores of 7470 and 68. 200 200 far will get it done. soul. Uh, day one was a little bit of a struggle. Just didn’t hit the ball how I wanted to. Second day I hit the ball a little better. Made a couple putts to where I was able to shoot two under. And then today made a big putt on 12 that really got my back n going to where I kind of felt like I had a little bit of a cushion to where if I just kept my head down and kept playing that I would still be able to win it by a couple and just that was really just the biggest thing today was just keeping my head down, focusing on myself, not focusing on my playing partners and it ended up working out. Ladies and gentlemen, Park Gallagher, the winner of the 105th San Antonio. Um, so I start Q school in September. Um, so I’m just going to be practicing, getting ready for that and hopefully uh play well there and get through and get some kind of status somewhere to where I can keep playing golf for a living. You hear that, Patrick? That’s one less guy next year. You could be eighth place next year. Oh, yeah. That feels good. We’re we’re hoping the field increases next year by quite a few. I Oh, don’t tell Patrick that. No doubt there will. I’m not going to say that they’re going to be, you know, Carson’s level or anything like that, but maybe they will, maybe they won’t, but I think more people would be awesome. I agree completely. once. Um, and even most of the players, again, I know I know some people who work real hard on those player communication emails, and I suggest to all the players that you open them because there’s a lot of information that pertains to the event. Um, but even on Sunday, um, down the stretch, I like I’m like, “Open your email, check out the the purse the purse payout because top 10 is is in the money.” and and it turned out to be uh top 13. There was a big T13 there. Um so these these City Championship Series events are going to have big big purses paying out 25% plus of the field and and and paying out cash. So uh cash within the rules of amateurism of of golf, of course. Right. But correct. and NCA rules and and NCAA rules, which there are some some bullet point differences on, but um I agree. I agree with Mikey Champ. I think the field size doubles next year. I agree. I think uh we got tons of good feedback with the included lunches afterwards or breakfast, however you look at it. Depends when your tea time is, right? Um the included cart was uh called out. The vibe, the music at the first team being uh out there people a lot of people uh really commented that the vibe was more elevated than other tournaments they would typically go to. Solid vibe. Awesome. Patrick Dazmo favorite hole location of the weekend. Bird, I’m coming to you next so you can prep. Favorite location honestly is probably 18 on Sunday which I you like back there, huh? I did. I mean it was just a a tough finisher. I left myself back with my iron shot. So I was hitting like six iron into the green and I hit a perfect shot. landed it up there, but I just took a nice rocky hard bounce off the back and I had this like downhill putt uh through through the fringe that I just didn’t hit a very good putt. Left myself like a I think it was like a sixfooter. Missed that. Made a bogey, but like I thought it was a solid pin. I mean, from from right foot rough on 18 to that back flag stick is what 480 almost. Yeah, it’s deep. 465. Yeah. Yeah. 465 to the center of the green, right? And I use But I’ve like I’ve had so much scar tissue over the years. I was like I just can’t do it anymore. I agree. I made that comment. I made that comment. I’m just like it’s just like and there’s a lot every hole at Cedar. There’s some scar tissue. If you’ve been out over the years, I played with one of the college kids and I made that exact comment to him. I was like, “Oh, you don’t have the scar tissue from Cedar Creek. That’s why you’re banging driver everywhere.” The first time I played Cedar, the very first time I played Cedar, I came out. I was playing with my good friend Colin Elliot uh and didn’t know any danger and this was like 2012 or something 13 and just boom hit driver every hole hit it straight. It was great. I think I shot like 70 and was like oh this course isn’t that bad and I don’t think I broke 80 for like five years. I mean it was just that that crazy and I was like what happened? He like this is a hard course. I’m gonna I’m gonna go first. My My favorite whole setup from the weekend was number three on Saturday. Two T- boxes up with the front hole location. That was killer. 282 to the front edge from the T- box. That was my favorite hole setup of the whole weekend. I I love the way that looked from the T- box and I love the way it looked from 70 yards and I love the way it looked standing in the green side bunker. I thought I thought that was great. To answer your question, 470 is the pipped out 18. Terrific. Terrific. Jason, we’re gonna we’re gonna let you think about it some more. Mikey Champ, favorite hole location or favorite hole setup that you saw over the course of the weekend? One I always love is back left on eight back there. That that one is just you’re staring at it. You You got to clear a tree or you can try the middle. Hope you catch the slope. I mean, there’s so many different ways you can you got to play it. Um, every time that pin’s there, I pretty much just write a five on my scorecard and go on to number nine. I I that is definitely that was also a Saturday hole location back left on number eight. Um and then that that hole went to the back tea box on Sunday. Jason, how does that back tea box directly affect hole number eight? Uh seeing as on Sunday that played as the hardest hole, uh I think two things affect the difficulty of that hole compared to old Cedar Creek as I was refer to it. Uh I think it really becomes a consideration to hit driver from that back T box. Um because that rough exists. It didn’t exist before. So if you accidentally hit one two yards too far to the right, you get caught in that rough with three iron or threewood, you don’t get that hole. You got 220 to that back flag and you are toasty pie. Understood. I got to say, I’ve seen a number of guys hit from that back T box. You know, if you hit a little lower trajectory driver though, that overhang of the tree on the left catches balls. And I mean, and so I hit 3-wood. Um, just get a little more loft on it. Um, but, uh, if you kind of catch it lower, your window your window is so cool. It’s so cool that you brought this hole up, Mike. Um, uh, hole number eight at Cedar Creek was the hardest hole on Sunday, the second hardest hole on Saturday, and the third hardest hole on Friday. And combined all the data, it was the hardest overall for the weekend as well. Um, producing only eight birdies and 19 doubles and nine others. It was the second hardest hole overall. I got it as the first hardest hole overall. I have number six as a Oh, it’s tied one. Number six and number eight both played eight over par for the event. Yeah. And and number 12 did. They all equaled. I don’t Now I have 12 at 81. And that’s what I have eight at as well. And then Oh, I have six and eight at 082. We got different numbers. Interesting. Well, that absolutely makes sense because those three holes without a doubt. Um, you miss any you miss the T-OT on six, it’s a high number. Um, eight, we all know what that’s like. And then 12. I mean, you you you miss anything on 12 either right or you stay too high left. It’s just it’s just so hard to to get up and down from over there. The the analytics on course by hole ranking versus the statistic page are off by like a hundth of a percent. Interesting. There’s got to be some variable in calculating hole by hole versus overall rankings. Um, so the page that I was looking at was hole by hole and the page that you were looking at was the course. Oh, yeah. I was just looking at the standard course sheet. Yeah. Yep. I was on the hole by hole and they’re off like a a couple hundredths of a point. So interesting. That’s interesting. Yeah. I think it’s interesting that the back nine plays almost a stroke easier than the front. Yeah, that’s what that’s the comment I made to you guys. I was like, man, it is it’s a ball buster that they flipped those nines again because at least the old way one and two were gentle handshakes to the golf course. Now one and two are absolute ball busters. Yeah. And and now that that getable one on the back nine is is way late and you have to survive until you get there. Um Jason Bird, same question. Favorite hole location of the weekend. Um, someone on the core setup committee thought putting the hole on a slope next to the bunker on number seven was a great idea. Oh, on Friday on Friday to the bunker over there and you left on your t-shot. Yeah, I was left on my t-shot. But, uh, my actual favorite one is, uh, I love that back shelf on what is now 11. I love that whole location. Um, on on Thursday night, the the setup committee was in rotation setting up round one and broke rotation because that turf grass on top of that mound was so glowing in the setting sun, they just had to put the whole location there. Turn that corner and that setting sun was like It just had to. It just had to. Um, but uh, all in all, Cedar Creek really really flexing his muscles and showing how tough of a task it was. And and I agree that shooting 68 on that golf course on Sun with no mistakes is amazing golf. Amazing golf. The best of luck to Carson. Um, yeah. I watched the leaders for a few holes and they were just all banging driver everywhere and I was talking to Michael Freeman today about it and I was like, I I I think you just got to hit driver everywhere. And if you’re just not hitting driver good, you’re just not going to win. But I also think you’re not going to win just hitting iron everywhere. on on Friday the length of the setup was about 6850 yards and then on Saturday the the setup was like 6675 to 6680 right in that realm and it was 7,04 yards on Sunday. I think it’s incredible that that number and it on its face and I think Patrick would agree here is not very scary 66 687,000 we’ll eat those courses up but when it’s Cedar Creek that is a big golf course it is and the comment that you made about not getting that iron roll because of rough is certainly a characteristic of new cedar the the rough up is what really, really, really separates the new from the old in my opinion. And then of course the greens feel so much bigger now. Oh, they’re much bigger. Oh, they’re huge. They’re huge. I agree. I think it’s I think the rough overall keeps your ball in play versus old cedar, but there are just a couple spots where the new rough will absolutely bone you versus old cedar. And number eight’s one of them. And if you get it up on that right side, it ain’t coming down anymore. And you’re swinging like this uphill. I also like that back left flag on 16 too over there where by OB. Yeah. By the OB over there that nipped Ben in the butt. Um but with that with that green talking about the greens getting larger that that left side almost gets out of view from the fairway. The left side is out of view for most of the fairway for sure. And you just don’t realize how close that OB is. We we definitely had people in my groupings get burned by that. I did not know that was OB. A little a little tug. A little tuggy poo to a left flag. Good game. Hitting high from the fairway or something. Well, the day the pin was over there, I hit my I hit it into a 17s fairway. Uh, and so I had to hit a I actually had enough space. I hit like a just a little draw. I guess we down there, right? I got Yeah, I got lucky. I got lucky as can be and I hit this little drop. Made it back onto that back shelf. Had no idea par. Couldn’t make the birdie putt. 17 at Cedar Creek. Say what? I said I had no idea there was an eagle’s nest over there on set. Oh, there’s it’s Yeah, there is. Yeah, it’s the opposite direction of the eagle’s nest over in Coler. But yes, there are some good stories from the event. Uh, you know, I had runins with the starters and uh people making Eagles and uh we we had a good time. Uh come on. You made you made a best friend on on uh Saturday. Let’s just let’s just go ahead and say it. Listen guys, if you’re playing in a highle tournament, just make sure your name is announced before you hit your t-shot. I’ll just leave it at that. I wonder I wonder now let’s let’s make let’s make it really clear that the tournament is closed and the results are finalized but I wonder if Jason broke a rule there. No, I don’t think that’s a rule by uh by teeing off prior to being announced. That is not in the rules. Um and then And then I’m just teasing the story. TQ, of course. Okay, so this is what happened. This is the story. And I know this was in um kind of a teaser and we wanted to talk about it. Um Jason Bird Saturday round two um is first to hit in his pairing. I am not actually. That’s the funniest part. Okay, that is new information. I I guess I assume that you had to be first to hit in your pairing. Well, no, no, no. So, so you So, he he announced the batting order, right? I was [ __ ] around in my bag. I didn’t hear it. And so, I turned over to one of my playing partners. I said, “Hey, what’s the order?” He said, “Oh, it’s like you, me, and then Christian.” I was like, “Okay, cool.” Pegged it up and hit it. And of course the starter is like that happens and I was like oh sorry dude do I need to reit like he gets all mad at that comment too. I I I do want to point out that I thought it was casual until you asked that question and that question do you want me to rehit? Um, you delivered it in a 100% sincere matter, right? It wasn’t off the cuff at all. It was, “Do I do I need to rehit? Do you want me to hit again?” Like, I mean, it was it was delivered so good and everybody except the starter knew you were kidding. Uh, but that’s when that’s when he lost it, I think. Yeah. Yeah. And then uh turns out the actual batting order was not me first. I was told misinformation. So for a few hours the starter thought my name was Christian Smith because he thought Yes. Yes. proceeded to tell the story as well. And yeah, that Christian Smith guy’s a clown. He teed off all early. So it it’s very funny that the story echoed through echoed through the staff members and the players from different directions and then yeah I got to I got to 10 green where we updated our scores and Andrew was there was like I heard you’re a clown. I uh uh I didn’t hear any other crazy ruling stories. I did see a player tried to play it off of the pond liner with the ball completely submerged on hole number nine. The ball was completely submerged and um resting on the pond liner. And the the reason why I was there is is the player called for a rules official because they wanted man-made obstruction in the penalty area from the pond liner. Of course, they didn’t get it right. And then because he delivered his intent was to play it, he played it from the pond liner and uh it didn’t go according to plan. Um and then the next shot he took the drop. Uh, that was the weirdest interaction that I saw for sure was the the the swing from the pond liner. Anybody else see anything weird camp? No, I didn’t. I saw questionable uh ruling on a tree stump. Uh, someone requested relief from a tree stump in their vicinity and it was granted and I I thought that was questionable. Okay. Maybe there was ants that you were unaware of. Oh, that is a dangerous animal, sir. A red ant. Agree completely. Oh, did you see that? Did you see that, Travis? I don’t know if we talked about this yet. It can’t just be a regular ant anymore. It has to be a red ant or an ant of dangerous variety. Well, I promise that I’ll promise that that ant came at me for sure. I promise. I see Greg Graph in the comments and uh I always think about him and Morgan wanting to make hats that say like # prayfors dangerous. You would get dangerous animal relief in a penalty area though. All ants are dangerous is what I’m what I’m being told. I don’t want to be discriminatory to any ant at all. So pieces of [ __ ] to me. Yes, for sure. I am getting ant relief in Wisconsin. For sure. I promise you. I promise. I just thought it was interesting that there was a clarification decision that came in. It has to be like the ant of a dangerous variety, not just a sugar ant. A dangerous dangerous. Um, can we get some AI to create images of dangerous ants, please? Oh, I Greg Graph could do that for us, I’m sure. I think I think we need Greg Graph can do that right now as we’re talking. He can send it to me. I think that would be fantastic. Um, let’s circle back. That was a tangent. They’ll rob you for your sugar. Don’t be a diabetic. I love Don’t be a diabetic. That’s hilarious. Oh, Scott Williams is here. Got no weird rulings. We got favorite hole locations. We got Cedar was hard as [ __ ] We got Cedar was hard as [ __ ] again. A couple um Jason, what else? What else do we want to I think it’s I think it’s super cool that this event in perpetuity is going to be played at that golf course. It won’t go anywhere else. We won’t be at a different course. Everyone knows what they’re getting. It’ll always be the fourth week of July. So, we can start to accordingly. And um there is some grumblings um about reproducing the historical winners boards from Bracken Ridge Park and and modernizing them a bit and and reproducing them in in perpetuity at Cedar with laser beam. Well, maybe not laser beams and fog machines, but I certainly put that on the list. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Um, it reminds me of a lot of big amateur events at cities around the country. Like the San Diego amateur Patrick is always at Tory Pines, you know. Yeah. Big ones like that are always at their signature courses. And I think that’s going to be great for this. I love those woodboards. I mean, they’re cool looking. If the Are you talking about something more modern than the woodboards? Modern wood. Modern wood. Yeah. from modern wood. Um, I don’t necessarily think we’re going to remove the ones from Brack. Uh, there’s just so much. There’s just history. Yeah. Right. Um, those cobwebs up there are from before the Second World War. I mean, that’s cool to say, you know. Um, but something along those lines, you know. um to recreate that history and and then write our own going forward at at this venue year after year I I think is something special. Yeah. And um do we have a chalice or you know a trophy or anything like that? There certainly will be um and there’ll be uh some sort of plaque recognition as well for low tournament score. Um uh we we saw the course record set and tied in this event. I think that is cool. The post renovation course record. Uh, so I think that is really neat to highlight and um I I’m not going to get off this podcast without saying how how special I think it is to have the the city championships back in the hands of the the city golf courses. I just 100% I just can’t stress that enough. And I I I just think it’s so cool and and so accessible to all and really excited to host the the senior and the women’s at Riverside in in two months, just under two months. Um more information coming from the trail on that in in this week’s newsletters for them. I know those details are getting buttoned up and that registration link should be here in 5 to 10 days. Um, and I’m excited to to get into to that stuff now, too. I mean, the the the way the the chitter chatter is about the senior right now coming off the men’s is so cool to have. So excited for that. And and Riverside is in good shape right now. I’m so excited to have the the chance to work with the setup committee on on setting up that for for a tournament like the match play was last year, right? And um it’s just being being the municipal golf pro at my core that I am and being on on here with with Mike and sharing the last week with Andrew and Kevin and the commitment level from the Alamo City Golf Trail on these tournaments is 100%. It’s it’s 100% and there there’s no gray area. It’s what do we got to do and we’re going to get it done. And I I can’t wait to share that with the the golfer in San Antonio for years to come. I can’t wait for the possible expansion of the Greater San Antonio series, right? Potential match play, Midam Junior, Pub Winks like you want to do Travis. Travis wants to do a Pub Winks. I I certainly um and that falls right into that city returning to the city category for me. Um far far too long. Um it it’s been maybe a little clicky and um at the end of the day I’m that that mun rat golf pro, right? And a a pub links is is is tough to control and tough to police. And um I think a public That one’s not for you, Patrick. That’s that’s that’s right. I don’t think it’s for you either, Mr. Poo. Well, being being part of the trail and uh for the last almost couple years now and and going through this event um I thought was a lot of fun. I mean, yeah, it was long days, but it was well worth it. And I’ve asked to be on the committee for the events going forward. So, hopefully I can um participate and be a part of every amateur major championship that the uh the city has. Oh, that’s so cool. My champion. I hope so, too. Well, profession. Awesome. Yeah. Well, we wanted dangerous ants from AI and I knew Greg Graph would absolutely come through. Such a great way to end the show. I’m so happy right now. So, just so everyone’s clear, this is a dead serious conversation. The ant must be dangerous in order to get dangerous animal relief, right? And so, the South Texas amateur golf tour rules committee of me and Travis have indicated that this is the very minimum baseline. If it doesn’t reach this baseline, you do not get dangerous animal relief from ants. I was I was truly hoping I was truly hoping they were going to have a bandana on and have That’s what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle ant. Yes, exactly. This is just a this just a frontline ant. Just wait for the second and third wave of ants. They’re going to be fully loaded. Oh man. Uh ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us on your Wednesday night. It is July 30th. It is 8:30. We are about to hit the hour right now. Patrick Dazimo, the platform is yours. 30 seconds. Share words of wisdom with our viewing public. Well, I did have a thought. I had a thought a minute ago. It was, you know, uh the, you know, talking about the importance of municipal golf and, uh, city golf. I think, uh, it’s a testament to you guys, the PJ professionals, um, the trail, the commitment to to public golf in San Antonio. There’s very few cities in across the US that have public golf access like we have in San Antonio. Uh, and I I know there’s a you guys get a lot of heat for course conditions, for all this stuff that people just like we people just like to complain about. Um, frankly, and it is truly one of the best cities for golf and uh the public golf is great and so uh hosting the the amateur the city am every year is going to be awesome. I’m looking forward to Cedar as much as the course beats me up and spits me out every time. Um, but uh I just keep coming. I Bird can tell you I say I’m never playing this course again and then I’m back and I play it. So it’s just it’s and that’s just what golf does in general. But uh yeah, so that’s it. That’s my words of wisdom. Uh let’s go over the 105th Greater San Antonio Men’s Amateur Championship Tour Golfers. Steve Landry tied for second. Patrick Dazimo ninth. Uh then we’ve got Alex Certuchi 15th. Bradley Gilbert 20th, Kevin Davidson 24th, Scott Shaw 25th, Jason Sandival 27th, Winston Lynn 31st, Jason Bird checks in at 34th, Benjamin Carricker at 35th. narrowly clipped by Jason. Meister Manuelian checks in at 42. Art Mesa clocks in at 44. 47, Tyler Pascal. Oh, you’re going to love that. A couple withdraws, but uh thank you to Tour Golfers that crossed over into the New City Championship Series. Um, what a great stepping stone the tour is to the the local championship series and then the local championship series to TGA events on the state level and USGA events on the national level and even eventually Q school in a couple months for some players. How cool is that? Badass. Jason Bird, um, take us away here after we give Mikey Champ a chance to wrap it up. Yeah, let’s give Mike 30 seconds. Ladies and gentlemen, PGA head golf professional Peter Creek, Mike Champagne. I I just kind of want to follow what Patrick is talking about. Um, I can tell you that Andrew, I’ve known Andrew a long time, very long time. Um, the goal is to make the city courses the absolute best they can be. Um, mistakes get made. They’re people. People make errors. Sometimes they’re bigger errors than we want them to be. But I can assure you that everything is done to improve the golf course, to improve the experience. Um, it’s a reason why I’m here. I’m doing my best to make sure Cedar is the best course on the trail, not just from a playing standpoint, but from an overall experience standpoint. Um, and that’s that’s where we’re trying to go. So, I I get it. Everybody wants good conditions. I completely understand, but I sometimes think the intentions are misunderstood or thought of in the wrong way. Um, it’s it’s about reinvesting in the properties. It’s about creating great golf experiences and part of that is holding this this this amateur, you know, events and bringing those back to the trail. Um, that’s what ultimately we’re trying to accomplish. So, for what it’s worth, that’s that’s my two cents. Um, I just thought I’d go ahead and have an opportunity to share that. I thought I’d share it. There are more PGA professionals employed by the Alamo City Golf Trail today than at any other time in the history of the trail. And that continues to show Andrew Peterson’s commitment to municipal golf in the area. What do we always say, Travis? Those three little letters matter. Heck yeah they do. Heck yeah. They’re not easy to get. So be proud to have them. And at the end of the day, if those letters are behind your name when you pull out of your parking lot, you care about your facility and you’re going to be there tomorrow giving a [ __ ] just like you did today. Those letters mean something. Thank your PGA pro. Thank you, sir. Jason Bird, take us away, everybody. Yeah. Uh, I would just like to point out, we didn’t discuss this yet, but this event did get distributed world amateur golf ranking points. And a fun fact for everybody is, uh, Patrick Dasimo was six strokes short of being ranked by the World Amateur golf rankings. Thanks. He was just six strokes better. He’ll be on the rankings this morning. Oh, man. Oh, that’s killer. Oh my goodness. I don’t know. Is that a good thing to share or a bad thing to share? I can find those instantly too. I uh I think that’s fantastic. We There is a question about senior age for the city championship series on the men’s senior. Um that information is being finalized as we speak. There’ll be a couple divisions and right now this is unofficial information and it will become official when registration opens but it’s looking like three categories for the senior men’s. Senior men’s age 50 to 64, super seniors 65 to 79, and legacy seniors 80 plus. That is what it looks like it’s going to be right now. Then the same categories for senior women and then 18 to 49year-old women’s amitter as well. All at the same event at Riverside in September. That’s gonna be exciting. I can’t wait to be there. Well, uh, I feel like this has been a great show. I am going to leave everybody with the lasting image of our new definition of dangerous ant relief and, uh, excellent. I wish everybody a very good evening. Yep. Was a pleasure. Yeah. Thanks for having me, guys. I appreciate being on. Thanks, Mike. At Mission Delago this weekend. See Uh day one was a little bit of a struggle. Just didn’t hit the ball how I wanted to. Second day I hit the ball a little better. Made a couple putts to where I was able to shoot two under. And then today made a big putt on 12 that really got my back nine going to where I kind of felt like I had a little bit of a cushion to where if I just kept my head down and kept playing that I would still be able to win it by a couple and just that was really just the biggest thing today was just keeping my head down, focusing on myself, not focusing on my playing partners and it ended up working out. Ladies and gentlemen, Harley Gallagher, the winner of the 105th San Antonio School. Um, so I start Q school in September. Um, so I’m just going to be practicing, getting ready for that, and hopefully uh play well there and get through and get some kind of status somewhere to where I can keep playing golf for a living.
