Surprisingly I cant see many threads on Happy Gilmore 2 here. So I'll just say it was a perfect follow-up to the original.

Super sympathetic to the original. Loads of fun characters like Oscar and Estoban.

Christopher McDonald was excellent.

The tour pros did a great job taking the piss out of themselves (shout out Will Zalatoris, Rory, Xander Schauffele, and Lee Trevino) and also how PERFECT was John Daly? Amazing.

Adam and the crew were so kind to all the original cast who had died and did a brilliant job keeping them in "GET ME OUTA HERE!!"

It was never ever going to be better than the original, but as a fun and kind of relevant followup I think it was excellent.

My 6y old daughter loved it, and my wife really enjoyed it – which is great for the sport and shows the reach this film has.

I think it was close to flawless – although the ending was a tad generic, but Happy has to win, right?

They have a mega thread that’s why. General group consensus might disagree with your take. I knew what I was expecting out of it and enjoyed it

  2. Grizzly_Addams

It was a good movie, except the competition. It was just too over the top.

  3. Constantly finding new things to drink out of was so fuckong funny

I can’t say I *loved* the movie, but I did like it and John Daly’s part was absolutely hilarious. Things like Scottie going to jail was a great idea for the reference and hilarity of the concept, but nothing acting and execution was about all you can expect from him. Daly, on the other hand, was a deeply funny concept and execution.

Scheffler stole the show! “Not again!” Lmao I was in tears laughing at that

It was eh to me. While I will happily rewatch the original, this one is a one and done for me. Had its moments but overall I found it kinda boring.

I remember seeing a trailer where he was mentioning how he wasn’t sure how he could compete now that everyone can hit it just as far as him alongside clips of pro golfers. I was excited to see the next installment being real to the sport of golf as golfers really have started to drive it so much further since the first movie. Along with actual PGA people and permission for what goes along with that I think they could have had a great sequel to build off of.

That isn’t even close to what we got.

In the end it was really just a semi recycle of the idea of him fighting through his personal problems to overcome and earn money for his family. That alongside reminding/revisiting LITERALLY every funny moment from the first with an even more dramatically over the top ending. I enjoyed some of the new bits more than the old and I think spacing out those nostalgia laughs would have had a better impact.

I did really enjoy it, especially more than a lot of modern Sandler movies, but it was definitely just a movie for the fans of the original to revisit everything as well as have more celebrity cameos than actual actors who I’m sure loved the first movie. Didn’t really feel like an authentic sequel.

It beat my expectations in some regards and disappointed me in others. Family and I did laugh and have fun, though, which is what matters in the end.

The number of pro golfers and cameo appearances in the film were great. The whole thing is half baked but funny to see LIV and PGA pros together in a plot that essentially mimics what’s happening in real golf today. It was a fun and nostalgic watch for sure. Wish Carl Weathers was still around.

  9. I feel that was exactly what Xander is like in real life

It’s a very stupid movie and I wasn’t expecting much more than that m. Gave me the giggles a few times and it was nice to see all those cameos. Let’s be honest, nobody was shooting for an Oscar here.

I think Sandler did a GREAT job in producing a stupid and dumb movie that’s enjoyable. The plot is meh but it has his moments.

“You mind grabbing me a half iced tea, half lemonade?”

    “Arnold Palmer…”

“No, Jack Nicklaus…but I do get that a lot.”

I thought it was dumb, lazy member berries for nostalgia. If a viewer just wanted to be reminded of the funny things from HG 1 then that’s what they got and were probably satisfied and that’s ok. Sometimes people just need to shut their brains off.

Not my cup of tea and I think they could have done a better job but who the fuck really cares anymore.

  13. Frosty_bibble

I thought it was great for what it was. Was it amazing? No. Was it much better than all the early shit reviews? 100%. If you went into it thinking it was gonna be some amazing masterpiece of a movie that’s on you. I personally loved it!

  14. beautiful5454

Honestly the cameos were great, movie was good enough, my favorite plot line that I called kinda early into the movie was the shooter redemption arc. It made the ridiculous plot with Maxi worth it.

  15. gallito9

It was decent enough, but you have to be a golfer to get a lot of the jokes. My gf loved the first but I know she wouldn’t enjoy the second because of this.

“Don’t forget to feed John Daly and walk him.”

  17. Progolferwannabe

Totally stupid. Perfectly done, and long over due.

  18. PairBearStare

There’s not many threads about it because there was a mega thread over the weekend.

  19. secret_identity_too

My parents, who are in their 70s and have never seen the original Happy Gilmore, also watched it and loved it. Said it was hilarious.

  20. Kagevjijon

I’m so used to seeing cold stone face Rory that when I saw him getting goofy with things like the batting cages I lost my shit.

  21. CrayonTendies

The beginning and main premise had me in shambles but I was giggling like a schoolboy the entire time

  22. I loved the first half, that felt like it was exactly what a sequel to Happy Gilmore needed to be.

But the Maxi tournament was just too over the top, didn’t really care for it a whole lot.

But that didn’t ruin my overall enjoyment of the movie.

  23. mikeemota

From the title it sounds like it took you almost a week to finish it haha. I also enjoyed it a lot. And to be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of the original, so I didn’t really have any expectations for this one.

    Want some breadsticks?

  24. Dense_Worldliness_57

Still don’t know how the Saudis approved the Liv guys taking the piss out of Liv?! Maybe because they were teamed with Rory and Scottie on the good guys side!!..
Or perhaps they didn’t see the Final Cut before approving their roles.. I mean there’s gotta be clauses in their contracts about disparaging Liv .. I don’t get it

  25. DesignBudget6333

I’m glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was one of the worst Adam Sandler movies ever.

  26. Going in, I was just hoping it didn’t suck , that’s all I wanted and I was pretty satisfied with the out come. It was a solid movie ,with some real good laughs and good cameos from Zalatoris and Scheffler. The villains kind of sucked, almost non-existent and I wish the story didn’t feel rushed, or have that over the top final act but hey, it wasn’t a total bomb, so I won’t complain too much.

  27. SilenceDoGood4

Did any one else find it weird that all those people were buried in the same cemetery? I mean come on?!?!?!?

  28. ICPcrisis

The will zalatoris arc prior caddie is incredible. The number of times I made that joke in the past and seeing it come to life was like Sandler was just reading my mind.

  29. wannagoforawalk

The second they killed off Virginia, I knew this was a one-time watch.

  30. msitty90

Scottie telling people to sit down in jail was so funny to me – suggesting he is a power player in jail because he’s been there done that 😂

  31. Gavictron

My son and I were cracking up the entire time! I loved that they made it a bit more family friendly and still so funny. I really enjoy it
