Charlie Woods surged up the leaderboard and into contention with nine birdies on the second day of the 49th Boys & Girls Junior PGA Championships.

Woods, a rising junior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, shot 66 (6-under) in the second round on July 30 in West Lafayette, Indiana.

He entered the clubhouse at 7-under for the tournament and in fourth place overall.

Woods, 16, stormed to a 31 on the front nine of Purdue University’s Kampen-Cosler Course with six birdies and a lone bogey.

He kept firing to start the back nine with birdies on No. 12, 14 and 15 but lost steam late with bogeys on No. 16 and 17.

The tournament will cut to the top 60 plus ties after Wednesday’s second round. It will cut down to the top 30 plus ties after the third round on Thursday.

The Junior PGA Championships are comprised of two 72-hole stroke play tournaments for boys and girls junior amateur golfers. This year’s boys and girls tournaments will each feature 156 golfers, respectively.
