the Isle of Sky Golf Club wow what a view oh if I had hair it’d be going gray by now is of Sky oh what a place oh we are online oh we got an oyster catcher I think there’s so many cuckoo here break oh go go go go go oh we’re right at it there’s no words thank you Skye oh very pretty well good morning everyone and welcome to another Academy versus video have I got a treat for you today as you can tell I’m still in the Scottish Highlands but I’m in the Isisle of Sky and I’m playing today the Isisle of Sky Golf Club so as you can see there’s a little cloud um but the forecast is for the sun to come out and it’s going to be unbelievable um we’ve got the mountains uh the old man of store is over there the Cullen Mountains are behind me but it’s going to be amazing little ferry going out there so it’s nine holes again and but they’ve got two T’s so it’s going to feel a little different each hole and you can see with the scorecard it’s not long but as we know doesn’t have to be long to be tricky so so I’m really looking forward to seeing what the IS guy has to offer got Trev down there not sure he’s ready to go he’s pretty tired it’s right on the edge of the water so this is going to be a good one i’m really looking forward to it let’s get over to the first tea okay so welcome to the first tea here on the aisle of Sky and with this Scotland series this northwest Scotland series I’m going to start six down i think that’s fair i have to do pretty well to have or even win let’s see what sky has to offer okay the first 307 downhill can see the green down there not sure what’s down there in terms of trouble but ignorance is bliss sometimes what a view though wow okay let’s fire away oh straight out the car happy days but it wasn’t hit right out my boot laces but I’ll take it it’s straight oh this is going to be a good one really looking forward to this one i came to Sky years ago and passed Isle of Sky Club and always thought “Oh really wanted to play there and now I am.” So with any of the series I’ll give little tips and hints whilst I go around if any sort of shot comes to mind i really hope you enjoy it oh the sky oh what a place a decent enough position might be even a little too close here got a down slope all the way to the green and the pin as you can see is right on the front don’t really want to leave this short of the pin looks like it’s quite a severe down slope at the front of the green so I want to leave myself an uphill putt if possible but I’ve got to land this short so yeah rely on a bit of luck here like I said on the previous video early morning a little bit of dew so it will probably skid let’s hope for the best oh cardinal sin i left it short that was way too delicate got a tricky chip now yeah that was too cute this is quite severely downhill this I got to be careful at the same time I need some birdies it’s gone away from me right these are what these little causes can do got to get the right course management and my second shot there or that little chip in pitch in anyway 3 ft up the hill pretty straight oh no oh no oh well i’ve got my uh work cut out today that’s a bogey that puts me seven down oh man oh that’s a wakeup call so bad course management bad first chip that’s what can happen it wasn’t a bad first putt actually but it’s so severely downhill you probably won’t see it in the camera but yeah there you go a easy bogey from 40 yards away anyway so I’m seven down so definitely got my work cut out now okay second 447 long par 4 oh we got an oyster catcher I think wow beautiful uh I think it bends around the bay think the green’s over to the left there oh that was hit right out the middle right okay pretty flat second shot there’s nothing round the green i don’t have a clue how far it is i think it’s about 150 pretty flat it’s hard to judge the distance isn’t it sometimes when in the uh when it’s so flat I’m going to hit a nine iron i don’t know if that’s going to get all the way back there going to stay patient as we know if we get off to a bad start can be quite frustrating can’t it you kind of feel a little bit kind of flustered early on middle of the green yeah not too bad a little short I think but I’ll take it been up here about a week now still don’t get tired of it closer than I thought really small green right got to get this birdie back right so yeah a little bit closer than I thought which is nice greens are so small you can see a little fall away from about here wow a little right to left let’s see if I can back that really bad first hole up with a good Hit it man honestly honestly what is going on anyway God I’m feeling a bit flustered anyway so that’s a par that’s still seven down come on seven down i’m leaving a putt shot what am I doing right third par three 153 i’m not sure if that’s to the middle i’m going to guess it is so it’s a little bit downwind but four miles an hour pin slightly on the right wow what a view okay let’s see if I can just peel this off to the right slightly start it straight in the middle oh it didn’t peel it started straight but didn’t move okay so I don’t think it’s going to be too far away from the hole if it’s on the green what a stunning stunning view i could play a path three like this every day and looking this way behind the green as well right I need this first of all I don’t want to leave it short let’s just let’s just give it a good run anyway we’ve got a little bit of an up and then down left to right too it’s not really holdable but if I can get it on its way on the top of the hill there and just let it feed in go go go go go thank you oh at last okay after three I’m back to six down fourth hole 280 pretty straight can’t really see a lot up there it’s a perfect yardage for a driver we’ll send this on this way and hope for the best feeling a bit less flustered now it’s slightly down the left but I think it’s okay so whilst up here in the northwest of Scotland I’ve heard so many cuckoo there’s so many cuckoo here you don’t really hear them where I am but I’ve heard so many up here beautiful we nearly put ourselves in the rubbish right we’re not far away from the pin here 30 yards 35 y got a horrible little ups slope here so I’m going to have to fly this all the way because it’s lying well and remember for a shot like this is the first thing you look at is lie and then what the terrain can give you i’ve got an ups slope quite severe falling away the sides well I’ve got to pitch this all the way i think 10ft pass would be a good result here try not to get too cute honestly what am I doing today these little shots frustrating it go sometimes anyway it’s actually a holdable chip so let’s give it a go it’s very horrible little ups slope there’s a bit of dew on the grass so I’ve just got to be careful for a bit of skddage be nice to have had a birdie chance anyway so that’s a a par so after four I’m level but still six down let’s not worry it’s only four holes still 14 to go there’s always time right let’s see what the fifth brings us trebs on the tea first oh it gives us a beautiful par three wow c one side mountain the other what more could you want maybe a birdie okay 162 i think it’s from back there so let’s say it’s 157 should be a perfect eight time looks like a small little green again so sometimes in golf you just got to just forget about it cuz I’m not really feeling it today in terms of my swing equilibrium equilibrium doesn’t really feel anyway stop moaning okay normal a time oh we are online be the right club that’s my best shot today let’s go and make that birdie see if I can get one back to the course here little left to right looks like it’s going to break at the end what’s the matter with me today right so that’s a par on the fifth i’m still six down not hitting my pups today at all so I was chatting with John the green keeper and he said that mountain there is an instinct volcano you can actually see it as well the shape of it right sixth 373 stroke index one looks like we got a couple of ditches one only about 100 out i’m not sure the distance of the next one but we’re going to hit a driver what a beautiful hole fade it off that house on the left there my best today see what happens with the ditch oh I think just short of it looks like we got a small green here looks like there’s a uh pins on the right not sure the distance i think it’s about 100 110 maybe a slight downwind going to hit a full gap wedge yeah we’re right on line yeah that looks close well hopefully that’s as close as it looks right very much needed okay 2 and 1/2 ft 3 ft make sure I get Trev in the shot so right lip just inside oh just got a little bit of the left lip right so after six holes and one under and five down oh it’s nice to be on the right side of the line for once okay seventh 146 looks like it’s uphill pins on the left hand side i’m going to draw an eight iron it’s a nine iron distance in terms of yardage but I’m going to hit an eight iron it’s quite uphill what an incredible mountain hitting into incredible lock behind me right see if we can draw an eight eye into that pin oh right on line oh stay oh right at the front of the green right looks like we got an uphill putt see if we can give that birdie chance a go so just like in any video from Academy versus I’ll put all the details below of the golf club of Isa Sky here contact details website things like that so if you’re ever in the area and a lot of people do come and visit Sky if you’re one of those people bring your golf clubs cuz the road there is the main road that travels through the middle of Sky so easy accessible easy to book just online so yeah they have an honesty box here as well so if there’s no one here you can pay there so as you saw with the ball tracking just held just pitched past there got away with that just going to play this like a putt it’s got a little pitching wedge it’s going to break a little bit left to right but not a lot break oh okay so that’s a par so after seven I’m still five down damn that was a chance nearly though okay the eighth 294 blind blind teaot i think it’s where that tree is that little bush I’m going to highlight now I had a look on the previous but one hole and I think there’s a ditch down there so I think I’m going to have to hit this really well to carry it but I’m going to have to go for it and force my hand so we’re downwind downhill and a five down so everything’s down for this hole so I’m going to go for it i got it a little left not too bad i saw it bounce actually right let’s get down there and check it out right left is good we’re in a good spot here although we shortsided ourselves a little bit i’ve got a little bit of green to work with i’m going to put some height on this we’ll try and pitch it on the green here what a view hopefully it’ be even better with a ball close to the hole go oh I pitched it absolutely perfect what I did well to leave it short straightforward putt three feet uphill right to left with your right half nice and smooth and remember there’s no hit just let the ball get in the way right dead center right so that’s a birdie on the eighth and that puts me four down right ninth it’s 268 uh it’s not obviously not a long hole but it plays uphill and it’s into the wind and it looks like there’s a ditch 50 yard short of the green 30 yard short of the green so I’m just going to play a little 3-wood up here and hopefully just set myself up for a little pitch on little down the left can’t see it but hopefully that’ll be okay we are about 50 yards short maybe 60 actually uphill into the wind obviously with a little shot like this it’s not going to be affected too much it’s not in the air long enough they’re very accessible from what I can see from the drone the pins right in the middle of the green stay down came out a little high i think got a birdie chance about 5t 6 feet downhill though and left to right bit of a Rory in the US Open cup just a little longer right so generally I’ve been missing these low side throughout my time here in Scotland so it’s really commit to my line here which is about a ball outside left oh it went in with some pace that’s a birdie and that puts me three down after nine okay so we’re on the 10th now different tea uh it’s 288 we’re in front of the clubhouse here and yeah that was a bit of a weird first nine wasn’t it but I’ll talk a little bit about psychological game on this back nine actually first of all let’s see if I can not mess this hole up like I did first time around 288 downhill left to right wind aim it just slightly left and fade it back oh that is right on the flag oh I saw that as well that’s gone through the back of the green but it’s better long remember the first time around how much it was downhill so I think it’s better long than short so I was speaking with David one of the stewards uh back there was coming through from the 9th to the 10th yeah and he said the weather cuz it’s forecast for it to be pretty sunny today yeah he said it basically does what it wants to do really cuz it’s so mountainous around here that it just has its own little kind of uh its own little climate really so anyway let’s get down to see where this is so just through the back here yeah in good shape better to be long than short here straight up the green here uphill the old chipping feels a bit rusty today i wanted to give myself a pretty good birdie chance wow I nearly made a mess of it right so after 11 on a bit of a birdie run here i’m two down 492 so this is a par five i’m going to play as a par four just for the interest of the game might regret that what a hole 300 y as well come on stay in the air nice kick forward too right out of the old boot races so talk a little bit about the psychological game it’s not all about standing there visualizing shots it’s about like it was a little bit today and glock i suppose you got to be patient patience is a is one of the major factors in golf because we’re out here a long time aren’t we so I messed up the first albeit it was only a bogey but if you make a high number early you’ve got time got time to get it back and I remember when I was playing on tour I remember probably many occasions getting off to a really sloppy start three over after five or something like that or like a double bogey on the second so I’m two over after two and it’s easy for the old panic stations to kick in but I always thought to myself okay I’m two over after two which is bad two over after five still bad but I’m still two over after 15 that’s not too bad obviously on tour standards you want a little bit more than that but albe it slightly different for this game but it’s all in the same bracket in terms of just patience we’re out here a long time you don’t have to get those shots back straight away you can just take your time settle into the round and then hopefully good things will come and you can just find a rhythm a little bit more it’s a really difficult game golf and we know us golfers are so difficult and a lot of it is in the mind right okay so let’s see what we got here right just turn the left rough took a bit of a kick to the left i think it’s lying down a little bit wind’s down a little bit as well i think we’ve got about hard to tell 190 small little green now remember this green from earlier you don’t want to miss this to the left at all i’m just going to nudge a little six iron up there come out of there oh come on wind take it it’s trying to run up to the front right a little bit of chipping needed I think yeah about 25 yd short didn’t come out of that line that second shot at all we got about 10 yards of green so we should have enough green to work with but it’s got to be struck correctly may give this a bit of height yep pretty good i’d say that’s a nine out of 10 pitch yeah be a good four on this hole 490 in anyone’s language is a decent length feels like it wants to fall a little to the right here I think but not outside the hole all right there’s a good four today that keeps me two down okay so the 12th 129 no wind hardly it’s right in between clubs i could probably muscle a wedge there but I just want to hold one in there’s a minute amount of wind right to left so I just want to hold it in and because of that I’m just going to hit a little nine iron just nudge a little nine ir left as you look at the green there just going to keep it flag side because there’s a little ridge that runs through the middle of the green here from what I can remember and I leaked it out to the right but right edge of the green yeah we’ll blow the hole this is quite considerably right to left just drop it up to the right and let it fall break break break not that much right to left trying though okay par three on the 12th i remain two down 13th 280 i remember this hole well I missed it down the left and had a really hard chip so as close to the right hand side as possible I think I don’t want to leak it into that rough i’m going to hit this straight at the pin wind’s a little bit left to right so if it if the wind gets it happy days come on fade fade oh it’s very similar to where I was this morning let’s see if I can make a a better fist of it than that a little bit better shape than earlier we were back there oh lying perfectly still haven’t got a lot of room to work with well I think this is my pitching area oh man wow that really kicked on wow i didn’t miss my landing spot by much there can’t do a lot about it now all I can do is try and hit a good putt here it’s definitely going to break right to left at the end that here oh no no no no what am I doing 10 seconds oh what a numsy okay that’s a par and I’m still two down okay let’s get on to the 14th which I’ve heard is a signature hole i can see why wow i know what’s going on the thumbnail wow right so 14 back to the golf right let’s try not to uh get too distracted with the views one two two we’re downhill downwind so I need to pitch this that’s probably from back there so let’s say 115 we pitch this just 5 yards short for the skip up so 110 so that’s a perfect gap wedge for me but I take a little bit off because of those factors two down five to play see what I can do oh we’re right at it be the club oh just to the left slightly what a beautiful hole it just fell away i didn’t see it it must have pitched up here it must have just fallen down while I was picking the tea up anyway tricky little shot a little bank to go up and over i haven’t got enough room to play a sand iron it have to be have to be very very delicate well not too bad a bit jumpy at the start wasn’t it it’s a must make i can’t miss this and go three down okay solid enough that was a struggle of a three and that puts me two down with four to go i’m up against it now the T the sixth it’s about 40 back from there and we’ve got that brook going across so I think I can hit driver over it well being too down with play it’s kind of forcing my hand a little bit it will be a tight carry i think I can make it by about 10 yards yep slightly down the right stay there i think that’s okay so two down and four to play realistically I don’t really want to be one down playing the last if I can help it so two birdies at the next three i know golf’s not as simple as that is it i’ve shortsided myself a little bit here the pin being at the right okay need a good pitch shot oh I just carried it not playing much right it’s given me a good chance though to throw a lob wedge in here not sure the yardage probably about 100 maybe a bit less wind’s a little bit into from the left so I’m going to start this slightly left hopefully the wind albeit a little bit will take it oh we’re online the yard is now oh a little long oh it’s much less than 100 okay still got a good birdie chance here 15 ft 12 ft right to left break break break break i didn’t break what a donut what a donut okay that’s a par on 15 yikes i’m two down didn’t break okay so here we go three to go two down 150 playing across this hole now earlier I had to play up it 150 it’s probably playing 160 you got a been little bit of wind right to left going to keep this down the right cuz there’s a big fall away it’s not going to be a full seven iron that’s for certain just a 3/4 nudge that’s the perfect line yeah little bit up the right but it’s better than left on this hole so as per usual just want to say a massive thank you to everyone here at Sky to David for looking after me today for Fiona for your correspondence really loved it it’s a beautiful There’s no words you don’t have to have words to describe how beautiful this is there’s not many golf courses in the UK like this really really good fun if you want to come up here and play some golf don’t have to hit three-wood into every hole don’t have to hit long iron hybrids very scorable really fun to play and they all have their own characteristics which I’ll talk about at the end right now got to deal with this hole right we’re pin high that’s the good news bad news is putting down the old marble staircase peter Alice would say remember this green from earlier we were just on the edge that little chip well it looks even more severe from down there just going to have to uh lag this up if it drops it drops but obviously three putting is end of match all right the weight should take care of itself here so we’ll just get this starting online maybe a foot outside three cups come on bit of magic wand come on come on keep going keep going keep going keep going come on thank you Skye oh a bit of magic conjured up right so that’s a birdie on 16 i’m only one down oh this is a marathon this is hard work oh if I had hair it’d be going gray by now right 17th 276 oh can you see the little ferry oh very pretty 276 downwind i don’t think I can get there with a 3-wood i probably could you know but I’ve got to be aggressive got to try and make birdie here so I’m going to hit a very very baby driver very smooth swing just hit a little fade just take 20 yards off this oh yes and she’s online too maybe a little left right let’s see if that’s worked out [Music] i am a little left but I’m pretty much pin high give myself a little 50/50 chip again if you’ve seen the channel you would have heard me going go on about the 50/50 chip 50% rough fairway 50% green roughly probably a bit more rough here so always take a sand iron and try and land it on the green if I can if the shot requires and if you can do it little bit more height than normal pitching into an ups slope so this is very holable oh it ran on a little bit further than I’d like just took a firm first bounce but from the chip’s perspective it went left to right slightly after it passed the hole it’s always a good tip that Yeah it looks a bit right to left too probably just inside the uh the lip struck well oh that was in as soon as I hit it wow what a marathon this is so that puts me all square playing the last i’m tired i’m emotionally drained i don’t think this is a 3-wood i think the wind’s changed a little bit i could probably hit driver i don’t want to get all the way to level and then me mess this up and hit it in that ditch there so I’m just going to hit a three iron it’s not easy this six lock right just a little three iron placement straight into that mountain wow right so I got the ball below my feet pretty much where we were last time playing the ninth pretty much downwind i think we got enough green to work with i remember this green being quite slow beat from back to front so I’m going to try and keep it short so I’m going to throw it up in the air try and keep it short of the pin leave myself an uppillar set me up oh it felt good for pace too soon as you hit it then you have a feeling of oh that’s a good pace but let’s get up there and see and these courses are fun it’s you know you can play under your handicap great why should you have a course that’s really demanding and you have to play your best to play to your handicap shoot a good score it’s more fun that way make some birdies make some piles whatever level you are it’s more fun and these courses are definitely more fun right you would have seen before me oh I’ve left myself with pretty much the same putt as the ninth but it went in a little bit too quick for my liking it had missed anyway downhill left to right so I remember a lot of putts I’ve had left to right in the Scottish series always miss low and I tend to kind of fall in love with the hole so it’s really committing to your line and the hole isn’t there really you just commit to the starting line okay Arless Sky hold your breath oh I leaked it big time leaked it as well wow wow that really moved more than I thought anyway that’s a par is sky we finished all level bit of a rubbish putt to end on but never mind it was a good half i’ll take a half especially being seven down at that point and above all like I always say with these little series in this Northwest spikes less traveled tour there’s no winner this is the winner the golf course is the winner the views are the winner the mountains the lock the mountain behind loved it can’t wait to come back and uh take the Isisle of Sky golf club on again right everyone just want to say a massive thank you
