Tyrrell Hatton speaks to the media following his third round at The Open Championship

So, uh, second straight major go into Sunday in the mix. How much are you enjoying this? Uh, wow. I mean, obviously going in tomorrow at the moment we’re six shots behind, so it’s a it’s a long way back, but um, so far I’m in a in a decent position. I don’t feel like I’ve played my best golf. Um although I’ve hit a lot of greens, I’ve not been that close to the hole. So it’s quite hard to to hole putts. Um I feel like I’m constantly just trying to get it up there close and and sort of walk off with par. So that side of it has been a bit frustrating for me, but um hopefully tomorrow I can play a bit better. when you’re out there and you’re seeing what Scotty’s doing and he doesn’t seem to be letting up, is it easy to maybe start pressing a little bit or what what can you do or can you how do you just stay in within your game? Um, to be honest, I Yeah, I mean, I saw the the leaderboards out there and you kind of know that there’s opportunities and you’re sort of expecting guys to be making birdies to be honest. Um so it’s not surprising especially not with Scotties to go out there and um and play really well today. Um but I mean from my side it didn’t seeing the the leaders get a little bit further away. It didn’t change how I then went and played the next hole. I was still just playing it as I would um if I was 70th in the tournament. So I didn’t it didn’t change how I how I played. Do you think do you think you’ll take anything away from what you did last month and to hear maybe something you’ve learned, maybe a new approach or um obviously it is a very different challenge. Um and at the moment a completely different situation I’d have to have an unbelievable front nine tomorrow to to be in the same position going into the back n um as what I experienced at Oakmont. But I mean it’s it’s nice to be high up on the leaderboard in in a major. Certainly tomorrow is the last round for me to earn Ryder Cup points. So yeah, there’s there’s a lot to play for tomorrow and I’m hoping that I can go out there and play a really good round of golf and you I’d love to make the Ryder Cup team automatically and and not rely on needing a pick. Um so yeah, we’ll we’ll just see what happens. You don’t really doubt you’ll be in the RDER Cup team, do you? You’re not really um I mean I one thing I’m proud of the last three RED Cups I’ve played is that I’ve made the team automatically. And sure, since I joined Live, like I knew that that was going to make things a lot harder for me to to make it a fourth time. Um, and yeah, I I guess for self- pride, I’d I’d love to keep that that streak going of being an automatic pick. And that will make it even more pleasing, rewarding because I know that I’ve had a lot less a lot less tournaments than um the other guys to do it. How close are you to your best? Going off to this week’s ball striking, it feels quite far away if I’m honest. Um I feel like my misses have been have been in decent spots. I’ve never really been um that far out of position. Um and yeah, I mean I’ve I’ve hit a I feel like I’ve hit a lot of greens this week. I feel like I’ve had the putter out a lot. Um I’d just love to, as I said, just be hitting it a bit closer so I have some more realistic opportunities. Do you feel comfortable where you are? I mean, you look as though you’re comfortable and you’re, you know, you’re playing well. Well, there some people who sometimes get into these positions and don’t look as though they feel as though they really believe they deserve to be there. But, uh, no, I mean, I feel like for me, I’ve I’ve won big tournaments on each tour that I’ve played on. Um, so I feel like I’ve got the game to to win. Um, sure it it’s taken a long time to have a chance to do that in a major, but um, when when I’ve won tournaments on each tour, you you’re playing against the the same guys that you beat when you lifted the trophy that week. So, if you don’t believe in yourself, then, you know, sort of other people might, but that doesn’t make a difference. It’s all it’s all on you. You’re the one standing over it and in control of where the golf ball Yeah. hopefully is going to go. Yeah. Um so yeah, I mean I I trust myself. I feel like I’ve got enough experience that I should be able to hit the shots when I need to. And yeah, I mean I’ll probably go out there tomorrow and be on the first team and be nervous like everyone else. And that’s fine to to have those emotions and um obviously it just shows you that you care really. Does anything change about your approach going into tomorrow? Uh you’ve got the RDER Cup weighing in in the back of your mind. You’re in a good position in the tournament. Uh does anything change or just sticking to your game plan? Not really. It’s just going out there and yeah, just the boring stuff of just trying your best on every shot. Um reacting to the shot that’s in front of you and what that shot looks like. Um and just going with that. So, as I said, I’ll I’ll try my best tomorrow and um hopefully I have a good day. to to just just after you mentioned Bal Ray the other night, I called the club and just asked about it and they said they gave you a ball marker. I was wondering if you’re using it this week or uh they kindly gave me a ball marker but no I mean I I haven’t been using it this week. I generally use um the the Ryder Cup one as special for me. Okay. Thank you. Thanks. Cheers.
