SAN LUIS OBISPO – Headlined by NCAA Regional selection and All-Big West first team honoree Baron Szeto, four Cal Poly men’s golfers earned Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar recognition Tuesday morning.

Joining Szeto among Cal Poly’s selections were graduated senior Parker Mapes and juniors Leo Metzger and Reese Sato.

To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, players had to have a minimum sophomore standing and 3.2 GPA, played at least 50 percent of their program’s competitive rounds, produced a stroke average under 76.0 and be in good university standing.

Szeto (business administration major), just the third four-time All-Big West honoree in program history, closed his career in May as Cal Poly’s first NCAA Regional qualifier in 10 years. Securing tournament titles this past season at Wake Forest’s Lyon’s Links Invitational at Royal Dublin Golf Club (Sept. 18-20) and Ohio State’s Robert Kepler Invitational (April 18-19), Szeto led the Mustangs with a 70.5 stroke average through 36 rounds while firing 20 rounds under par and a further 14 in the 60s.

Mapes (agricultural business), third in Cal Poly’s lineup last year with a 73.3 stroke average, produced seven of his 27 rounds under par while finishing in the 60s four times.

Metzger (English), who enjoyed two top-20 showings, finished with a 74.0 stroke average, six rounds under par and three in the 60s.

Sato (business administration), with four top 30 finishes last season, produced a 74.3 stroke average and five rounds under par.
