But he did say thank you to this guy, and to be fair, you can see why he’s not in a good mood at this moment. I’d probably be a bit edgy if I was having a bad round and caught that lye in those ferns and he was just standing there

These guy's are all at the top their game. Like him or loathe him, he's focused on the task ahead. He knows where the ball is; he needs to see where it's going to go. Anyone playing golf knows how much of a head game it is. No other volunteer assistant would stand distractingly in the line of sight of the players in their sports. So, why is it so (apparently) acceptable to you guys in high level golf? IThis is similar to the Lowry incident – with the assistant calling for silence. It's about the assistants making themselves useful but discrete. It's not a sociable round – it's top level competition just as much as is any other cup final.
"Thank you sir, I appreciate you helping me find my ball (looks like one he and his caddy would have been searching for and could not have found in less than the three-minute time limit. I didn't like this, didn't like to see Shane Lowery cursing a volunteer with an f-bomb, and have seen Ryan Moore yell at one of my volunteers on a hole who then decided he wouldn't ever volunteer again. It's sad that the jackasses at the high levels of the PGA cannot seem to get it through these players' heads that at least a modicum of respect to volunteers is required. This unfortunately happens more than it should. I don't give a damn how high the stakes are or how high the stress level, you never disrespect a volunteer.
