Northfield Golf Club held its Club Championship over the weekend, with Jesse Morgan taking down River Kuhn in a three hole playoff to win the men’s championship. Both Morgan and Kuhn finished with two round scores of 146 to force the playoff.
Dennis Fournier shot the low net of 123. Rachel Snow won the women’s championship by shooting a 170 while Betsy Cushing carded the low net (140).
Baseball
Junior Legion
Greenfield Post 81 8, West Springfield 2 — Post 81 got its revenge against West Springfield on Sunday. West Springfield handed Greenfield a loss last week in the Western Mass. Junior Legion double-elimination tournament but on Sunday in an elimination game, Greenfield got the victory at Vets Field.
It was a seven-run fifth inning that propelled Post 81 on Sunday, as George Gutierrez and Luke Connors both singled in runs, Urijah Jenness singled in two while Arthur Fitzpatrick doubled to drive in three for Greenfield.
Nick Prasol pitched five innings to get the win on the mound, scattering six hits and two unearned runs. Greg King came on in relief before Connors recorded the final two outs. Bodie Burke, Hunter Donahue and Hayden Girard each threw someone out at the plate from the outfield in the victory.
Greenfield faced off against Westfield on Monday and won, 10-0. Westfield will now travel to Vets Field on Tuesday to face Post 81, the winner taking the regional and advancing to states.
Softball
It was a successful trip to Franklin for the Killer B’s 10U Tournament for the Franklin County Crush.
The Crush went 2-1 during pool play before knocking off Enfield, 5-4, to reach the championship game, where it took down the Franklin Fury Collins, 12-4, to take home the championship. It’s the program’s first tournament win in 10 years.
Hayden Sadler, Savannah Thomas and Dani Zraunig led the way over the weekend while Grayson Baker, Clara Behan, Penelope Gioules, Grace Hickey, Tayanna N’Dissi, Marlee Pratt, Hailey Sadler and Makenna Ward rounded out the roster.
Maynard Road Race
The Don Maynard Memorial Road Race returns to Greenfield in September, with the race scheduled for Sept. 20.
The race is changing from a 5K to a five mile race this year, beginning at the Greenfield Municipal Swimming Area at 9:30 a.m. Online registration is available at RunSignup.com. Any questions or to volunteer call or text Chuck Adams at 413-522-6688.
Tennis
The Greenfield Tennis Association will be hosting a women’s singles event on Saturday, Aug. 2 (rain date Aug. 3) beginning at 9 a.m. at the Beacon Courts.
