NORMAL, Ill. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men’s golf team kicks off their fall season on Sunday at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, hosted by Illinois State University, at the Weibring Golf Club.
The tournament will be a 54-hole event that will feature 36 holes on Sunday and the final 18 holes on Monday.
The Weibring Golf Club plays 6,915 yards from the championship tees and is a par 71.
The Competition
Along with UTRGV and Illinois State, other schools competing include Oakland, SIU Edwardsville and Detroit.
Last Year at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate
Nicolas Platret led the team last year as he finished tied 16th place finish after shooting a two-round score of 146 (71,71). Ramon Ventura-Camp posted a two-round score of 149 (75,74), which placed him tied for 32nd.
As a team, the Vaqueros finished tied for 12th after shooting a two-round score of 603 (297,306).
International Flavor
The Vaqueros have 10 student-athletes representing five different countries including the United States, Spain, Mexico, France and Germany. Two of the student-athletes, seniors Ricky Soliz and Peter Fox, call the Rio Grande Valley home.

The Vaqueros will head to Houston to compete in the HBU Husky Invitational on September 21.
