Tiger Woods watched on as son Charlie collapsed on the back-nine to fall away in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in Dallas.
Charlie has recently demonstrated his talent on the course. He finished just outside the top 10 with a final round of 1-under 71, having shot 72 on Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 8 in the first two rounds of the 47th Junior North & South Amateur in North Carolina, where an eye-opening interaction between him and his dad was heard.
Charlie also recently claimed a landmark win after showcasing his physical transformation. But, having qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, he struggled in the opening round in Dallas on Monday with father Tiger watching on.

Woods will not play in the 2025 season after the 15-time major champion ruptured his left Achilles while training in March. In the meantime, he has been assisting son Charlie on the course while also advancing his relationship with Vanessa Trump.
However, Charlie endured a difficult showing on Monday. He shot an 11-over 81 at Brook Hollow Golf Club, sitting in a tie for 241st in the massive field of 264.
Charlie’s opening nine was solid. He tallied a bogey on the 470-yard par-four first, which was perhaps a bad sign, and then made a double-bogey on the third.
He settled down from there. Charlie made four consecutive pars before a bogey on the eighth hole and a bounce-back birdie on the ninth to shoot an opening-nine 38, which was just three over par as he made the turn.

Charlie’s hopes collapsed on the back nine. He bogeyed both the 10th and 11th holes before a double on the 13th, while he added a pair of bogeys on both the 15th and 16th before another double bogey on the 17th.
He finished strong, posting a birdie on the par-four 18th hole. Given that this is just the first round, both he and Woods will hope the teenager can bounce back going forward.
The 16-year-old is 16 shots behind the tournament’s current leader Tyler Watts, who sits at 5-under after the first day of competition. Watts finished fifth at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May, the event that Charlie won.
Following his stunning first career win, Charlie said: “Being able to say to myself that I won an absolutely amazing event and to say I performed under some high-pressure situations is just huge going forward.”
As for Woods himself, he won the U.S. Junior Amateur three consecutive times from 1991-1993. He is a vocal supporter and critic of his son, as Charlie looks to forge a career for himself in golf amid the weight of family history and legacy.
Charlie will play his second round at Brook Hollow on Tuesday, July 22.
