Tiger Woods’ son Charlie has received the praise of one of the 82-time PGA Tour winner’s former coaches, despite missing the cut at the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Having played his way into the prestigious event through qualifying, Charlie was one of a number of rising stars in the field in Texas for the event. The 16-year-old’s week, however, came to a premature end, having found himself 14-over-par after two rounds, 11 shots off the cut line.
Charlie, who has had an impressive junior season in 2025, was looking to follow in his dad’s footsteps, with Tiger winning the Junior Amateur on three occasions.

It was not to be this time around, but his dad’s former coach, Hank Haney, was left impressed. After a clip of Charlie’s golf swing was uploaded to social media while out competing this week, Haney took to X to comment: “That’s a great golf swing.”
While his son was out on the course at Brook Hollow Golf Club, Tiger was seen walking the track and following the youngster in action. It came as Woods missed yet another major in 2025, with The Open Championship being played out at Royal Portrush last week.
Woods has been out of action since The Open last July, having struggled with fitness. During his recovery this campaign, the 15-time major champion suffered yet another setback in the build-up to April’s Masters, picking up an Achilles injury during training.

It has only prolonged Woods’ time away from competition, having not featured competitively on the PGA Tour in 12 months. He was able to play last December’s PNC Championship, where he once again partnered with Charlie, with the pair finishing second behind Bernhard Langer and his son Jason.
Despite not getting their hands on the trophy, it proved to be yet another special week for the Woods family. This was made even better during the final round at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Florida, as Charlie made a hole-in-one.
“That’s one of the highlights we’ve ever had,” Woods said. “On the hole previous, he made his first eagle (in a previous PNC), and now he just made his first hole-in-one. It’s a magical two-hole stretch. I’m just so happy for him and for the enjoyment we had as a family.
“To be out there with Bernie and Jason, it was a lot of fun … It was back and forth, nobody made a mistake today; we had to earn it, and that was the joy of it. I’m nowhere near competitive shape. I’m a great scramble partner. We made a great team this week, and that’s the whole joy of it, is to be out here with family and bonding and just the enjoyment of each other’s company.”
