Let’s talk about some of those guys who came up short at the Open. Some weeks they probably would have won the Open, but some guy named Scotty Sheffler dominated in a big big way. Starting with Harris English, second runner up at a major this season, and now he’s sixth in the US RDER Cup team standings. Do you think he’s a lock to play for Team USA at the Ryder Cup? I think so. I I think that this is the probably one of the most underrated players on the PGA Tour. He’s a very quiet, laid-back kind of guy. Quiet guy, but he’s had great success throughout his career. He’s a very popular guy as well, which helps out for the RDER Cup team selection. Guys love him. They call him Harry. He’s just one of those guys that gets along with everybody. And his game is really solid. You look at TA Green, you don’t finish, you don’t finish runner up in two different major championships, of different statures, of different conditions, and not be a good player. So, I think that I think that he would be a lock. If he’s not going to make it on his own, he’ll be a pick for and Harris English played in the RDER Cup four years ago, partnered often with Tony Fen now. Maybe we’ll see those two again, although Tony Feno would have to play some much better golf here as we look ahead. But how about Chris Godup? This guy comes out of absolutely nowhere to win the Genesis Scottish Open. He was 158th in the official World Golf rankings heading into that week. Finishes third at the Open. Now he’s 27th in the world. And with all due respect to Chris Goddarup, I’ve been on this show for nine years. We’ve never said his name on this show. Just how awesome to see another player really come out of nowhere and have two really good weeks. It’s great. It’s a lot of fun to see guys like that perform. And you see the the the sort of exuberancy in his in his form, in his words that he was talking about after. I mean, he even is a little bit, I think, surprised at how well he played. Not that he didn’t think he could do it, but to go out there and play in those back-to-back events and play that well and really challenge for for back-to-back wins when you when you think about it. He’s a guy I think we’re going to be watching in the in the coming years. Another guy who will move up the ranks and start filling out some win cards at some of these tournaments. And he can bomb it, too. 22nd in the US RDER Cup team standings right now. Maybe gets into contention again. Maybe we shall see. But three other players I want to talk about who will very likely be at the RDER Cup starting on team Europe. Rory Mroy. So Rory finishes T7 at Royal Port Rush at the Open. Just couldn’t really gain momentum during the the weekend rounds trying to make a weekend charge, but what do you make of Rory at the Open? I think this was the first sort of decent performance we’ve seen since he won the Masters. I think he’s back. He knew this was going to be a big setup. as he said at the start of week, this is the one on the calendar that he circled perhaps more than the Masters basically in his home country, an hour from where he grew up. A guy who held the course record before they made some pretty significant changes to the golf course. And I think there are some, you know, some just some thoughts on on where he some some things that he did that really kind of took the wind out of his sales. 139th in driving accuracy. That’s not a great number obviously, but if you look at his form on Sunday, this is the one thing that stuck out to me a little bit. The eighth hole he’s 101 yards wedge in his hand he hits it to 30 feet. Uh ninth hole 66 yards and he hits it to 22 feet. Now I know you look at the numbers and it doesn’t really necessarily translate to what he’s facing on the green but he just seemed to be off a little bit with the driver with hitting it close. He was always seem to be putting from 20 and 30 feet for birdies. There just didn’t seem to be enough great chances like we saw at the Masters this year. I suspect he’ll continue to come back though. He’s got a little break. He comes back for the FedEx Cup. We’ll see what he does from there. 47th in strokes gain around the green. Rory was at the open and he sort of went through this blip in his schedule, right? That he was very open and honest about lacking motivation, some strange behavior at both the PGA Championship and the US Open. But now that it seems like Rory is back and has a better outlook now, what do you think of his expectations for the FedEx playoffs? Well, I think you know I don’t think these rake up they’re quite with major championships, but they are certainly probably the next past step. And I think he would love to finish off this year by winning the FedEx Cup or trying to get himself down the line and put himself in contention on on the at at uh in Atlanta at East Lake. He is I think I’m not sure how driven he is right now continues to finish off this year, but I do think that winning the FedEx Cup now becomes the next most important thing you can put on your calendar before you go through. So, I think he’ll be grinding it out there. I think we’ll see him give Scotty a little chase. That’s the other thing now, too. Wouldn’t it be great to see this rivalry develop like uh Rory can take the role of Phil Mickelson in the in the Mickelson Woods back and forth? I think that’s what he wants to do. I think he wants to show that he’s still got lots of game. Rory the only player to have three FedEx Cup titles to his name. How about Xander Schoffley? Finishes T7 and he had that that injury earlier in this season, but very quietly. Two top 10s at the major championships this year. He’s a major championship consistent machine. But do you think he leaves the open disappointed with his performance? Uh not necessarily disappointed with these particular performance. Is he disappointed with his year? Yeah, I think he is. I don’t think he’s real happy with where things are. I mean, he had obviously that that pain with his uh with his the injury with his rib at the start of the year has kind of held him back and he hasn’t really hit his stride, but I think he’s getting closer. He feels good about perhaps finishes. Maybe not the performance that he wants. And then there’s Bryson Dashambo who opens with a 78. Looked like he was check please. I am out of here. Then he somehow scrapes together a top 10 finish. Pretty crazy week, right, for Bryson Dashambo, who this very likely was his last chance to get RDER Cup points. And I think he’s going to be on that team. Do you? I think he’ll be on that team. I think it’s interesting to look at at his performance. And I I was a one of the guys on that list that said that his the way he plays golf and the open championships don’t seem to mesh up. And that kind of played out in the first round. I’ll tell you, he really surprised me with the last three rounds. Three great rounds. And and something to look forward to the future because I think he’s he figures things out. He sort of deciphers things the way his mind works. So it might be something where he sets it up for next year. His his final three round score of 197 was the second lowest all time in open championship history only behind Henrik Stenson back in 2016 who of course won the Clar Jug that year.
